California's crushing sludge/doom outfit Black Sheep Wall will release a new album through Season of Mist in 2015.
The new record is titled "I'm Going to Kill Myself" and will be released in North America on January 27th (January 26th worldwide). Regarding the album, guitarist Scott Turner comments:
"It's crazy how much can change in a year or two, but when you think about our history those who have been following us shouldn't be surprised. We're very excited about the release of 'I Am Going to Kill Myself,' and the debut of Brandon as our full time vocalist after doing close to 7 years of duty on bass. His voice is the voice I've been waiting to have in the band for years.
"The album was just as much a labor of love as it was an arduous and brain wracking process. Once you hear the songs you'll know what I mean. They are a test of endurance as Jackson and I purposely tried to push the limits of taste for the album which I sometimes like to think of more as a special project than a true follow up album. Black Sheep Wall is offering the band's new EP, titled "It Begins Again," for free download at Bandcamp here. You can also stream the tracks below.
The brand new EP will be released as a limited edition 10" vinyl on July 19th. The track listing is as follows:
1. Ancient Fvck
3. Angelic Exorcism
The LA based, doom-inclined modern metal outfit recorded "It Begins Again" at Love Juice Labs in Riverside, CA. Artwork was done by Jeff Rogers, who previously did the artwork for the band's Season of Mist debut, "No Matter Where It Ends."
Regarding the new material, vocalist Trae Malone said, "For this EP, I thought we could do something special. We decided to record our new material with Black Sheep Wall's original vocalist, Jeff Ventimiglia. Everyone has been so welcoming of my presence in the group, since the beginning, so I thought it would be a nice gesture, to all the individuals that have supported us, through the years. I have been a fan/friend of Jeff's for years. Regarding the music, I listen to a lot of doom/sludge/grunge, new and old. Most of it is from Europe. With this EP, I really wanted to tap into some of the traditional tones of that genre. It just feels like an organic progression of the music, it just feels right. This EP felt good to get out." California drone metal act Black Sheep Wall has announced its signing with European label Season of Mist. A statement from the band has also been posted online and can be read below.
"If you were to tell us seven years ago when we started playing heavy music in our parent’s garages that we would one day be sharing a label with bands we listened to and idolized, such as Mayhem, Morbid Angel, Kylesa, and Dillinger Escape Plan, we probably would not have believed you. Fast-forward to 2011 and here we are announcing a partnership with Season of Mist for the next Black Sheep Wall record.
"We are excited and honored to be part of one of the leading labels in heavy music and look forward to making all kinds of exciting things happen with Season of Mist. As of now we are putting the finishing touches on a handful of songs that we will record at end of May, for what will become our Season of Mist debut. After recording our new album we will embark on a short West Coast tour in June followed by an East Coast run in late August. We’d like to thank everybody who has stuck with us since we first came around. We hope to see everyone soon."
EAST OF THE WALL is planning their next cross-country tour for all of July. The New Jersey crew will be touring in support of their upcoming Translation Loss full-length "Ressentiment," to see release while the band is on the road. "Ressentiment" is a concept record in which the band focuses on a slightly different sound, integrating the use of vocals and an increased emphasis on sonic dissonance, and was engineered and co-produced by Will Putney at The Machine Shop (Clutch, King Crimson, Lamb Of God). The final release date and more details will be announced shortly.
On this upcoming tour, EAST OF THE WALL will be joined by Lifeforce Records artists Name for the duration of the month-long excursion, as well as Black Sheep Wall on the west coast leg of the tour. Several dates throughout the tour are still in the booking stage, so the band is reaching out to anybody that can offer a possible show on any of the dates still marked as TBA. The label is set to release stateside versions of Time To Burn's "Is.Land" and Four Question Marks' "Titan" full-lengths sometime in late 2008 or early 2009. Black Sheep Wall's "I Am God Songs" is set for early Fall 2008, while Destroy All Operating System's nine-song, previously-unreleased debut, "Cerebellum Sounds," will be available shortly thereafter. All official release dates are pending.
"I couldn't be more pleased that such a talented handful of artists has committed to don the Debello moniker," comments Debello president Jean Wagner. "I feel that these bands truly have an understanding of Debello's mission, both personally and professionally, and together we'll surely accomplish great things. Welcome to the family!"
