Maylene and the Sons of Disaster to Release "IV"

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster will release "Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: IV" on September 27 on Ferret Music.

The hard rock group's forthcoming recording was produced by Brian Virtue (Jane's Addiction, Deftones, Audioslave). Forefather's Group (Children of Bodom, In Flames, Between the Buried and Me) designed the cover art. The lyrics continue the concept of Maylene as 1920s prohibition gangsters from a real-life crime family.

"As humans, we play things so safe and everything "makes sense" or is "figured out" and is how it's supposed to be," said Taylor. "I hope it will make people question their lives and how they do things, and make people realize what they have. It is definitely a new band now with a new drive. This is the most serious thing we've ever done and the most grown-up record I've ever made in my life. I think it will surprise a lot of people who were into Maylene before. It is a very dark record, but it's the most truthful and heartfelt thing I have done in my life."

The track listing for "Maylene and the Sons of Disaster: IV" is as follows:

1.) In Dead We Dream
2.) Save Me
3.) Faith Healer (Bring Me Down)
4.) Open Your Eyes
5.) Killing Me Slow
6.) Taking on Water
7.) Fate Games
8.) Come for You
9.) Never Enough
10.) Cat's Walk
11.) Drought of '85
12.) Off to the Laughing Place

In the Wake of Clutch in West Virginia

Clutch recently came through Huntington, West Virginia, capping off a short run of tour dates to promote the band's forthcoming "Basket of Eggs" project.

I arrived at the V Club just after the first act has gone on stage. The door guy, who checked me for weapons on the way in was happy to chat with me, telling me I’ll never find a seat cause they’ve removed almost all the chairs, except for on the patio, plus the show has sold out, so standing room only may be an understatement. Then I went to the bar, focusing on the opening act, who I was surprised to hear is playing reggae.

Groundscore, a punk/rock/reggae trio from our nation’s capital was laying down the good vibes up on stage. Despite my initial surprise, I was not disappointed, nor do I think the audience of some 100+ people, many packed in front of the stage, were either. I found myself easily slipping into the mellow infectious reggae grooves, the bluesy rock guitar solos, and suddenly invigorated by the bursts of punk jams.

The trio was just on the heels of the their second full length release, "Speed Kills," the title track of which they played to a head bobbing, swaying audience. Groundscore seemed an appropriate warm up act for a hot Sunday evening, the kind of music that is cool for the kids, non-abrasive to parents, just good fun music with positive energy. More...

Necro Leaves Sounds Of The Underground Tour

Self proclaimed "death rap" artist Necro has issued the follwing statement from his official Myspace:

"I decided to leave the tour collectively with my manager and booking agent (both tour organizers) because we felt the tour’s demographic was not receiving hip hop well. I was facing hostile, disrespectful crowds and was returning the same energy back ten-fold by being more aggressive than them.

It was making a lot of people in the tour crew nervous and there was concern someone might get hurt (NOT ME). It was also being suggested that maybe I tone down my live show and not antagonize the already antagonistic crowd. I couldn’t roll with that as it’s not my style. I was holding back enough as it is but there is a line. All the bands on the tour loved us and everyone behind the scenes knew we displayed major heart and never once got phased by the hostility. We finished every show with middle fingers up and a big "Fuck You" to the crowd.

I will make one thing clear for the haters: we NEVER got booed OFF the stage. Not once. Yes a ton of emo kids booed us at every show, but we had a twenty-five minute set every night and we stayed on stage for every minute of it, and we represented. Every show had at least 100 to 200 Necro fans in the pit tearing it up, and our meet and greets were incredible!

It’s just a shame these little kids are so close-minded. The majority of the hate was coming from mop top emo sixteen-year olds who have no clue who the originators of metal are, and didn’t respect my rest in peace chant to metal legends (Dime, Cliff, Chuck, Piggy, SOB).

As far as the tour organizers and I are concerned, you are my people so it’s all love and I’m thankful for the opportunity to prove I can murder it in the worst of situations. This actually did a lot for me and is just one move in many my team will make to blow Necro up"
