The band recently entered frontman Erik Rutan's own Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, FL to begin recording the new studio album. J.J. Hrubovcak has been added as the band's bassist.
Commented Rutan: "The band has been locked up in Mana Recording Studios doing pre-production for the past two months, finishing up songs that we have been writing over the last year in between tours and albums that I've produced, and we feel we have come up with one of Hate Eternal's heaviest, most twisted, evil, melodic, and insane albums yet.
"It was my goal to expand upon what the band has done in the past, and add new dynamics and twists to the traditional, dissonant Hate Eternal style, yet keep it in the same vein. It took the three of us really pushing ourselves, and digging deep into the essence of who we are as musicians and writers and players to create something very unique and special. We cannot wait for everyone to hear what we have in store."

Obscura Guitarist To Release Solo Album
Obscura guitarist Christian Muenzner has posted the following update online in regards to his forthcoming solo album:
"Being a fan of instrumental guitar music for many years, this has always been a dream of mine.
"After I finished recording my guitar parts for the upcoming Obscura album 'Omnivium', I felt quite inspired and spent all of my free time working on the songs for this project.
"The CD is gonna contain 12 instrumental songs. Stylistically, the music is quite diverse and has influences from various genres such as neoclassical shred, fusion, power metal, hard rock, prog and thrash metal. And, of course, the songs will have guitar all over it! I like to describe it as '80s Shrapnel Records shred meets modern metal.
"I am super-happy and honored that some of the world's best metal musicians agreed to work on this album with me!
"I'm very excited and can't wait to hear their contributions!"
Obscura Drummer Releasing Instructional DVD
Obscura drummer Hannes Grossman is working on his first instructional drum DVD titled “Progressive Concepts for the Modern Metal Drummer." The DVD will feature different chapters about hand/foot techniques, blast beats, advanced double bass drumming, rhythmic modulations, and song and performance tutorials.
Grossman commented on his forthcoming DVD: "After the recordings for Obscura's new album I decided to start filming because the energy of the recording process was still valid. The final motivation came from Nile-drummer George Kollias, with whom we toured in Japan. Thanks again, Bro'! Of course the DVD will not only feature solo and song performances, but also very deep advice about the things that I use, like finger control technique, hybrid techniques, advanced foot technique or odd-time signatures."
Obscura has also been confirmed for the Mass Deathtruction Festival in Belgium and the Bang Your Head Festival in Luxembourg this December.
Obscura Reveals New Album Details
Obsccura has recently completed work on the band's new album "Omnivium" and has revealed its track listing as: “Septuagint," “Vortex Omnivium," “Ocean Gateways," “Euclidean Elements," “Prismal Dawn," “Celestial Spheres," “Velocity," “A Transcendental Serenade," and “Aevum." The album was recorded at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer V. Santura and is expected to see a March 2011 release date. Additional album details will be announced shortly.
Obscura drummer Hannes Grossman commented on recording the album: "The recording process was intense and time-consuming, but it brought us many steps forward as musicians both individually and collectively. The songs are still catchy, but there are more epic parts involved, as well as faster and more melodic songs. The extremes of the band's sound extend on all sides, so to say. Expect some things which have never been done before like this in Death Metal!"

Kummerer commented on his partnership with Ran Guitars: "I am glad to be a part of the RAN family now. I started playing RAN custom built guitars in 2003 and was instantly impressed with the high quality of the build, fine woods, and precise hardware they use. You'll hear and see the new RAN axes during the upcoming tours in support of Obscura's new album in February '11."

Obscura Reveals New Album Title
Obscura has unveiled the name of the band's forthcoming full-length as "Omnivium." The new album was recently recorded and is now being mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress). The nine-track album will see an early 2011 release date. Additional album details will be made available shortly. Obscura's Steffen Kummerer issued the following update from the studio:
"Although we recorded again with our long time friend and producer V. Santura in the Woodshed Studios, the studio sessions were hard work and lots of sweat. It was for the best though since Omnivium is definitely the next step for this band.
"Christian (Muenzer – guitar) recorded some outstanding solos with a new 8 finger tapping technique, Jeroen (Paul Thesseling – bass) brought his own stamp of fretless tone into the mix again, and Hannes (Grossmann - drums) recorded his heaviest session to date and broke through the 260 bpm line. Everyone brought lots of great ideas to the table and made Omnivium a truly collaborative band effort. Omnivium sounds solely like Obscura, and brings us a step closer to reaching our unique vision of progressive death metal."
Obscura Recording New Album
Technical death metal act Obscura has begun recording the follow-up album to the band's latest release "Cosmogenesis" at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany. Engineer V. Santura will helm the recording. An early 2011 release date is expected with additional album details to be announced soon.
Obscura founder Steffen Kummerer commented on the new album: "We are glad to work with our long-time friend V.Santura once again to record our new album. The new material feels broader in some way as everybody in this band brought many unique ideas to the songwriting and we were able to integrate different elements into our sound. More open chords, more acoustic guitars, more seven string shred-tunes. Remember: more is always more. We are excited to create another album of progressive death metal and to start touring through the whole world in early 2011.”
Jeroen Thesseling Discusses His Vegetarianism
Bassist Jeroen Thesseling of German technical death metal act Obscura was recently interview by Peta2 regarding his stance on vegetarianism. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Peta2: What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?
Jeroen: I decided to become a vegetarian about 16 years ago at that age when young people become aware and conscious of their decisions and the world in general, about life and what you want to stand for. Also some people around me were already vegetarian which stimulated me to make the same step. Moreover, I have great respect for nature and animals in general. The decision to never eat meat again was natural and logical.
Peta2: What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?
Jeroen: I love Italian cuisine. For me it is the most tasteful food, with endless meatless possibilities; and best to enjoy with a glass (or bottle) of Italian red wine. I also like Indian food from time to time.More...
Steve DiGiorgio To Join Obscura On Tour
Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, ex-Death/ex-Testament) will join German progressive death metal act Obscura on their upcoming Japanese tour alongside Nile and Triptykon. Vocalist Steffen Kummerer commented on the tour situation:
"During scheduling conflicts with Pestilence, Jeroen Paul Thesseling is not able to join us on the trip through the land of the rising sun. Fortunately our friend Steve DiGiorgio will help us out and plays these special shows with Obscura. With that said, I will clear that Jeroen is not leaving our band nor is a session player. We will record the third album with the same lineup as with Cosmogenesis in 2008 and start a huge world wide touring schedule with Jeroen on our side on all shows when the yet untitled third album will be released."

Since the release of 'Cosmogenesis' we got so much feedback from fans all over the world and after the trip to Japan in June we will travel to Mexico for the first time in the history of this band. just amazing."
"Cosmogenesis", the second full-length album from Obscura, sold around 900 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Obscura Checks In From The Road
Drummer Hannes Grossmann of Germany's Obscura has checked in with a new road report via Sick Drummer. An excerpt from the report follows:
"March 8th - Portland/OR, Hawthorne Theater: I've been to Portland before, but I didn't notice how much of a hippie town it is. At least the part of the city called Hawthorne is. The good thing about hippie towns is that they care a lot about healthy food and good coffee. I'm not sure if walkin' barefootin' allday is really healthy, but maybe if you eat all that veggie crap every day, it doesn't matter anymore...
"Well, nice theater we were playing in. The audience was really enthusiastic and finally I got the chance to catch Augury. Even though they lost their rhythm section right before the tour started, they sound tight. Tommy really can play the drums. We were all very tired because we had an overnight drive from San Francisco, so we packed our stuff as soon as the concert was over and drove to the closest Motel 6.
"March 9th - Seattle/WA, El Corazon: El corazon...that must be Spanish for THE BUTTHOLE. The most rotten stage we played on this tour so far, two of my tom mics didn't just fell off, they literally fell apart in its single pieces. Steffen got hit by his microphone stand in the mouth because the audience went totally crazy. At least one really cool thing about that venue, as long as you don't have to sing. No seriously, the audience was great and I really would love to play in Seattle again. Maybe in another club. More...
