Background
Children of Bodom was bred in spring 1993 when guitarist Alexi Laiho (Sinergy, Kylähullut, ex-Impaled Nazarene, Thy Serpent) and drummer Jaska Raatikainen (Virtuocity) decided to form a death metal band under the moniker "Inearthed." They recruited bassist Samuli Miettinen and recorded their first demo "Implosion of Heaven" in 1994. Soon after, the band added guitarist Alexander Kuoppala and keyboardist Jani Pera Pirisjoki. Later on, Miettinen and Pirisjoki left the band and Henkka Seppäla (bass) and Janne Warman (keyboards; Warmen) joined in.
With their own money, the band recorded their debut album "Something Wild" in 1997, blending elements of speed, death and power metal. The album impressed Spinefarm Records so much that they decided to sign the band. Inearthed changed its name to Children of Bodom (named after a notorious mass murdering that occured at Lake Bodom just outside of Helsinki in 1960) in order to get out of their previous contract with a Belgian label. Children of Bodom got a licensing deal with Nuclear Blast to handle releases to the rest of Europe.
Alexander left the band in July 2003, leaving fans in shock as the band had said that they would quit if one of its members left. But Alexi said "Children of Bodom ain't ready to fucking die yet!" as they recruited Alexi's fellow Sinergy guitarist, Roope Latvala (Walhalla, ex-Stone, To/Die/For, Waltari). After ruling Europe, Children of Bodom began to take over North America with their first ever North American tour with Dimmu Borgir in late 2003.

Children Of Bodom Finishes Recording Drums
Finnish heavy metal band Children Of Bodom has revealed that producer Matt Hyde, who has previously worked with Hatebreed and Monster Magnet, is working with them on their new studio album, which currently remains untitled. The band has also finished recording the drums for the record. A message from drummer Jaska Raatikainen reads as follows:
"Ok folks, I´m done with my drum recordings. I need to do couple covers tomorrow morning but that´s always easy and fun. Recordings for me went good and I´m super excited about the new songs. They ARE killer. I´m sure you will love the new material. And yes, there´s gonna be nine new tracks on the album. That shouldn´t be a suprise... :-) Later I´m gonna add some videos from recording my drums."
Opeth Confirmed For Bloodstock Open Air
With a line-up boasting headline appearances from Children of Bodom, Fear Factory, Twisted Sister, plus a guest slot filled by Meshuggah, Bloodstock Open Air has now confirmed the gathering's final headline slot. The Friday night slot will be closed by Swedish Prog-metal superstars Opeth, who headlined back in 2008.
"We're pretty excited about coming back to play the Bloodstock festival with Opeth" states front man Mikael Akerfeldt "Myself and Axe will of course be double-fisting since we gonna cause some havoc with Bloodbath as well. We got asked to play since Heaven & Hell canceled and even though we obviously feel that we cannot possibly match their magic or fill the void, it will be like a personal tribute show to the memory of Ronnie Dio. So needless to say I'm honored to play, it will be intimidating and emotional I believe. We'll deliver as usual of course but yeah, I will be thinking about Dio, that's for sure."
The Bloodstock Open Air festival will take place from August 13th - 15th, 2010. Additional details on the festival can be found here.

"Couple of more months and we will start recording for real. Can't really wait how the new shit sounds when it's actually all done. While recording we will hit the festivals, which is cool. We never left the studio like this, in the middle of recording process, so let's see how it affects, or if it affects at all.
"So Sziget is the first one, Budapest is so nice city, and the weather is always great that time of the year!
"Ankkarock is the last for us then. Hello Korso, my name is Torso!"
