DevilDriver Checks In From The Road

Drummer John Boecklin of DevilDriver has checked in from the road with the following tour report:

"Touring has a great feeling this time around. Seen alot of friends from fear factory, unearth, killswitch, 36 crazy, anthrax, megadeth, as I lay dying, rise against, 3 inches of blood, malifece, slayer, Alice in? Chains. Basically you can tell what I'm getting at here, every show has a friend or a hero of mine and it fucking rules.

"Playing shows has also gotten a bit easier as well for me because I now use IN EARS for the first time ever. My feet are now more consistent then before cuz I can really hear what's going on now. Tomorrow we get to headline the second stage @ Graspop festival in Belgium. Dez is fucking pumped cuz Kiss headlines the main stage, one of his all time favorites.

"We also have been jamming the rough mixes this tour (Andy Sneap mixes in late July). It's got beef. It's interesting to me, it's not the fastest shit we have done, nor the slowest, just lots of groove. But to me, when people say 'it's got groove,' I think its a nice way of saying simple and boring these days. We wanted to avoid this. More...

DevilDriver Checks In With Road Report

DevilDriver guitarist Jeff Kendrick has checked in from the road with the following tour report:

"Hey guys! Jeff here. Writing to you from Augsburg, Germany on what has been a very successful European tour! Everyone is having a great time and we are just seriously kicking ass. I would definitely say the highlight so far has been the 2 Sonisphere shows with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax amongst others. It was amazing and then getting to watch Metallica from the side of the stage was a dream come true.

"We are currently playing a headline show tonight in Germany and then tomorrow we are headlining Marquee 2 at Grasspop! That is a huge fucking honor. So I cannot wait for all you guys to hear the new record. It is mind blowing! I will not even describe it to you but let you wait and stew in anticipation! You guys will love it. I appreciate all the well wishes after my bout with pneumonia and I am back and in better shape then before. Decided to do the Euro run completely sober and I am feeling great so far. Anyways, I will talk soon and till then keep fucking rocking!"

DevilDriver Checks In From The Road

DevilDriver guitarist Mike Spreitzer has checked in from the road with the following tour report:

"Today is Mike's blog day! Today we are in Vienna, Austria with Fear Factory. We've been here probably 5 or 6 times and every time we are here I try to go visit Mozart's old house that has been turned into a museum. But every time its either closed or completely on the other side of town. I'm not even going to try today. But it would be cool to see.

"I heard the show is sold out. Hopefully that statement is accurate. If so, it should be a great show. Hope all of you are doing well and I can't wait for all of you to hear the new record. For those of you that felt Pray For Villains wasn't heavy enough, this record is like getting a cinder block covered with acid hurled at your head by King Kong. ENJOY!"

DevilDriver guitarist Jeff Kendrick has checked in with the following road report:

"Writing you all from Budapest, Hungary after several shows with the 'big four' in Czech Republic and Switzerland. It was absolutely fucking amazing! I was able to just pull it together in time for this tour after having a very serious case of pneumonia right before this tour. It was brutal! I was very sick and don't still feel that great, but I am pulling it together for the tour.

"Nothing was going to stop me from kicking ass on this run! We are playing a club show tonight with Megadeth and I am hoping that they will play their entire 'Rust In Peace' album! Anyways, I will keep you updated as the tour goes farther along but so far everything has been great and shows have been awesome. Tales From The Pit: Escaping Devildriver's Pit

We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Devildriver frontman Dez Fafara points us to one of the largest pits witnessed:

"The Tale I have can be viewed online! DevilDriver in the tent at Download, almost 15,000 people and a huge pit takes place. Everyone is cool, taking care of each other and suddenly, from the stage, I see some dude scrambling up a pole in the middle of the pit to get up and away from the mayhem! He stayed till the song was finished and we caught it all on tape. Other stories include random broken legs, arms, noses, teeth knocked out, pitters passing out and the always fun ‘I’ve fallen and can't get back up!'"

We'll see if we can get Dez to elaborate on some of his other stories, but check out the video of this massive pit at Download 2007 that he's talking about:

Devildriver recently wrapped up a tour with Suffocation and Goatwhore where they were doing a little work on some new material as well. The band will be heading overseas to take part in Hammerfest from March 11th - 13th, 2010 in North Wales.

Check back every Tuesday for more tales from the mosh pit.

"Hi y'all. I'm sitting in a La Quinta Inn in ....Lincoln.., ..Nebraska..... Me and Boecklin just wrote a sick song for the 5th devildriver record. We bought these little Line 6 Spider practice amps to take wherever we go when we have downtime so that we can constantly be writing. We seem to write better in pairs instea of by ourselves. The ideas flow alot faster. We just ordered Chinese food and then it's back to work!!!!! We are playing....maplewood.., ..Minnesota.... tomorrow. See ya there!"

Devildriver guitarists Jeff Kendrick and Mike Spreitzer recently gave their own tour updates as well.

"It feels so good to be on a full-on metal tour again in the States. Our second tour with Thy Will Be Done and our first with Suffocation and Goatwhore. All excellent bands and a shit load of fun to get drunk with. All the shows have been amazing. Last night we played the Gothic Theater in Englewood, CO just outside of Denver. We had a great show and made our way to a club that a friend of ours works at (which means free drinks!!!!) I'm not sure what the theme of the night was at the club but I have never seen so many transvestites in one place. (Not that there is anything wrong with that!!!!)"

Guitarist Jeff Kendrick states: "Into the second week of our Bound By The Road tour (2010) edition and it is going fucking fantastic! First of all, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I hope everyone is off to a great start of the year and I wish everyone a bright and prosperous 2010! More...
