Earlier today it was confirmed that Peter Steele, the frontman of the bands Type O Negative and Carnivore, had passed away at the age of 48 from a heart failure. Many fans of the band have been paying their respects today, among them include many of Steele's peers. You can read what some of them have to say about the man below.
"Peter Steele was one of my all-time favourite musicians ever! I've only met him once briefly and he was just the nicest guy! Carnivore's 'Retalliation' and all Type O Negative albums have been a huge influence on my creativity. This is a black day for music! Rest in peace, Peter." - Mille Petrozza, Kreator
"Peter Steele was one of the nicest guys in music, he was always kind to me through the years. I toured many times with Type O and was always taken care of! Big guy with a huge heart. My heart goes out to his band, his family, and his many friends around the world... We have all lost a LEGEND, a voice that will never be duplicated!" - Dez Fafara, DevilDriver
"I haven't heard such bad news in a long time. I am apalled, speechless. Silence is more respectful, in these circumstances, I know. But everyone who knows me knows that Peter and Type O were (and are) an IMMENSE influence in my musical taste and beside that Pete was a charismatic, intense, funny, fantastic person. I treasure the moments we spent together on this road and I know he's rockin' out both heaven and hell, right now. My deepest condolences to Johnny, Kenny , Josh and Peter's family. I will miss you brother, my influence and adorable giant. We'll meet again somewhere, someday." - Cristina Scabbia, Lacuna Coil

(I was Pete's tech during Bloody Kisses touring cycle.)
We all know what a huge loss this is. Pete was gifted in many respects. One thing that not a lot of people saw is what an insanely funny guy he was. Not a punchline kind of thing but a purely true laugh your a$$ off darker side of life kinda thing. That's how i will remember him. ...I've been breaking out in goose bumps all afternoon playing Type O. "Summer Breeze" had the hairs on my arms standing up for the duration of the entire song.
I'm sure these reactions are just the tip of the iceberg. Everyone who has ever encountered Steele (not to mention the rest of the band) have had nothing but kind words.
I'd love to hear a tasteful tribute album for Pete. Hope some good bands are up to the task.
Now Playing: Type O Negative - "Be My Druidess"
I followed Pete since Carnivore and was greatly, GREATLY disturbed when he passed. I have mental health issues and related to many songs and much of the music. It helped alot. I have a very deep voice and if anyone would like to try and set up a collaboration in tribute to Peter you can find me at Facebook...Shane Taylor of New Orleans or Chalmette. Look me up.

I am incredibly saddened. He was a huge part of my formative years.
