Originally formed in 1996, the band teamed up with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Sentenced, Samael, Tiamat) in 1998. Terrorizer Magazine hailed Lacuna Coil's self-titled debut as "superb, and its strength soon weakens whatever resistance you may have had after repeated plays." In 1999, The album In A Reverie was released with the same producer. They played at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands, the Metal Mania Festival in Poland, and Italy's prestigious Gods Of Metal Festival, and the Altheimer Open Air Festival. They released the Halflife EP, which was recorded in Italy with a new producer, to their European community of fans in the year 2000.

In 2001, they released Unleashed Memories with their original producer, this album (released in North America with the previously unavailable Halflife EP). Praised by Alternative Press for their "supersize chords that nearly burst into flame, gorgeous three-part harmonies and chill-inducing melodies that recycle in your head for days" and earning a special mention in Billboard Magazine's Hard Music Spotlight for their "compelling mixture of seductive melodies and aggressive riffs," the band embarked on their first North American tour with Moonspell in the winter of 2001. Metal Maniacs documented their live show to be "a sensory overload of the highest order. In one word: intoxicating."

Lacuna Coil creates a dream-like quality of the world, which floods you with a myriad of heavy and hypnotic sounds. The epic feel of their latest melodic invention, Comalies, will quickly lead to you believe that an incredibly personal epiphany is about to happen. Each song contributes to the build-up, encouraging introspection while documenting the sadness that this particular journey uncovers. Upholding the emotive yin/yang tradition of vocal interplay between the dulcet tones of Cristina Scabbia and the deliberate vocals of her male singing partner Andrea Ferro, Comalies is another dynamic exploration of Lacuna Coil's soulfully somber and stunningly enigmatic musical alchemy.

Veterans Concerned About Music As A Weapon IV Tour

The Green Bay Press Gazette has reported the following story about Veterans raising concerns over the last stop of the Music as a Weapon IV tour:

Veterans say a festival that could include tobacco sampling, a tattoo parlor and heavy metal music doesn't belong near the Brown County Veterans Memorial on Armed Forces Drive.

The village recently approved a permit for the Music as a Weapon event, set to take place 2-6 p.m. May 17 at the Resch Center before a Disturbed concert later that night. Organizers say the event won't happen near the memorial, which sits on the corner of South Oneida Street and Armed Forces Drive, but some vets are wary the scene will mock the memorial.

"That is sacred land to the veterans," World War II veteran Bob Young told the Village Board. "They don't like to see it abused." More...

Music as a Weapon 4 Tour Report

The Music as a Weapon 4 Tour is not just a couple of bands tagging along with Disturbed for a romp around the states. It is an all day festival of skin art, extreme sports, and music in addition to the headliner bands that draw the crowds in the first place. It all sounded wonderful to me when I bought my tickets. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. More...

Things are going GREAT, the bands on the bill are all awesome and we're having a great time hanging out with them. We already did few barbecues in the night after the shows, which is always cool and comforting (food on the road is not like home) , plus it's a great chance to socialize with the HUGE amount of people involved in this festival.

"We brought our electric moka machine as usual (Italians!), so our bus it's a sort of moving bar full of guests coming in and out, ahah! More...

Lacuna Coil Premieres Video For "Spellbound"

LACUNA COIL has returned with the massively anticipated, new full-length release, "Shallow Life," which is set for an April 21st North American release. The album was recorded with acclaimed producer Don Gilmore (Avril Lavigne, Linkin Park, Pearl Jam) at the famed NRG Studios in Los Angeles. The group recently completed a new video for the Active Rock smash hit “Spellbound” that was shot in their hometown of Milan, Italy. The clip was directed by Saku, produced by Apnea Film and wardrobe was provided by Dolce & Gabbana.

You can watch the music video for “Spellbound” at ArtistDirect.com.

Cristina Scabbia (vocals) comments: “Hello to all the rockers out there. We're currently in Denver on the ‘Music as a Weapon IV’ tour and we're having a great time. It's just amazing for us to be able to test some of the new songs in front of so many new people and to see such great reactions.

“We had a great time shooting the video for ‘Spellbound’ and it also marks our first time working with acclaimed Italian director Saku in a location that's really peculiar. It was filmed in a very fashionable place: the restaurant ‘Gold’ located in Milan, Italy, which is owned by the fashion designers Dolce & Gabbana, who kindly gave us the permission to film over there!
The location provides the perfect atmosphere to express the ‘Shallow Life’ theme. Everything is really shiny and ‘bling bling’ and the band is performing in the middle of a golden room full of mirrors and giant chandeliers.”

LACUNA COIL will be performing some new material on this spring’s “Music As A Weapon IV” festival. LACUNA COIL joins such hard rock titans as Disturbed and Killswitch Engage crisscrossing the U.S. before finishing May 16th. The 38-city “Music As A Weapon IV” fest marks the group’s first run of North America in almost two years.

Crooked X Added To Music As A Weapon Tour

Oklahoma's hard rock quartet, Crooked X will play on the second stage at Disturbed's Music As A Weapon IV Tour-a music, tattoo, and lifestyle festival-presented by Samsung Mobile and powered by Sprint. Crooked X will rock The Ernie Ball Second Stage, which will be officially sponsored by multi-city battle of the bands organization Headbang For the Highway, a 38-city, nine-week trek, which kicks off March 20th in Madison, WI. "I would go to this show even if we weren't playing. These are some of our favorite bands. What a great opportunity," says Jesse Cooper, lead guitarist. "I'm so stoked to go on the Music As A Weapon Tour. I'm excited to see Killswitch Engage and Suicide Silence. It's gonna be an experience for sure," adds Forrest French, lead vocals.

Recently, the 15-year-old shredders appeared on their own mini MTV rockumentary, "Rock N Roll Dream," which documented their real-life Cinderella story about four young boys catapulting from a Coweta, OK (population 7,000) garage band to opening for KISS in front of 35,000 screaming fans in Stockholm, Sweden. These events led to CX signing with EMI via McGhee Proffer Media (MPM) in August of 2008, all this within the span of nine months.

Their self-titled 10-song debut for EMI (in stores now), was helmed by hit producers Spencer Proffer (Tina Turner, Quiet Riot, WASP) and Michael Wagener (Metallica, Ozzy, Poison). Standout tracks on the new album include "Gone," "Time Is Now," "You Gotta Bleed," and "Adrenaline." The track "Nightmare," was featured in the successful Rock Band video game while "Gone" and "Rock N Roll Dream" are available as downloadable content for the game. The success of their debut landed them their first national late night TV appearance on ABC's JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, where they showcased new single "Gone" in addition to fan favorite "Rock N Roll Dream." Lacuna Coil Reveals "Shallow Life" Release Dates

Italian goth metal act Lacuna Coil has announced that they will be releasing their new studio album, "Shallow Life" on the following dates:

Europe: April 20th, 2009
North America: April 21st, 2009

The album was produced by Don Gilmore who has previously produced more mainsteam acts such as Linkin Park and Good Charlotte and was recorded at NRG Studios.

Singer Cristina Scabbia says about the album: "Shallow Life is a natural metamorphosis from within the band; we explored different musical territories while maintaining our own style. A mix of old and new, fast and slow... light and dark. The album production is incredibly powerful and has a beautiful purity to it. Hopefully listeners will feel the same sort of connection that we have to these songs. It would be great to think that we have produced songs that will make anybody either think, smile or cry. Shallow Life has forced us to challenge ourselves. It represents the way we see ourselves in the days we live in through truth, love and lies."
