Band Photo: Lacuna Coil (?)
From: Milan, Italy
Last Known Status: Active
Originally formed in 1996, the band teamed up with producer Waldemar Sorychta (Sentenced, Samael, Tiamat) in 1998. Terrorizer Magazine hailed Lacuna Coil's self-titled debut as "superb, and its strength soon weakens whatever resistance you may have had after repeated plays." In 1999, The album In A Reverie was released with the same producer. They played at the Dynamo Open Air Festival in The Netherlands, the Metal Mania Festival in Poland, and Italy's prestigious Gods Of Metal Festival, and the Altheimer Open Air Festival. They released the Halflife EP, which was recorded in Italy with a new producer, to their European community of fans in the year 2000.
In 2001, they released Unleashed Memories with their original producer, this album (released in North America with the previously unavailable Halflife EP). Praised by Alternative Press for their "supersize chords that nearly burst into flame, gorgeous three-part harmonies and chill-inducing melodies that recycle in your head for days" and earning a special mention in Billboard Magazine's Hard Music Spotlight for their "compelling mixture of seductive melodies and aggressive riffs," the band embarked on their first North American tour with Moonspell in the winter of 2001. Metal Maniacs documented their live show to be "a sensory overload of the highest order. In one word: intoxicating."
Lacuna Coil creates a dream-like quality of the world, which floods you with a myriad of heavy and hypnotic sounds. The epic feel of their latest melodic invention, Comalies, will quickly lead to you believe that an incredibly personal epiphany is about to happen. Each song contributes to the build-up, encouraging introspection while documenting the sadness that this particular journey uncovers. Upholding the emotive yin/yang tradition of vocal interplay between the dulcet tones of Cristina Scabbia and the deliberate vocals of her male singing partner Andrea Ferro, Comalies is another dynamic exploration of Lacuna Coil's soulfully somber and stunningly enigmatic musical alchemy.

Lacuna Coil is proud to announce that the band's new studio release will be entitled "Broken Crown Halo" and is set for release on March 31st (EU, Australia/NZ) and April 1st (North America) via Century Media Records. The album is the band's seventh studio effort, and the highly-anticipated follow-up to "Dark Adrenaline" (see review here).
Lacuna Coil were joined in their native Italy by producer Jay Baumgardner (P.O.D., Sevendust, Evanescence, Papa Roach) and engineer Kyle Hoffmann (P.O.D., Bush, Zebrahead). The album was mastered by Howie Weinberg (Rammstein, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Deftones and Sheryl Crow). More details on the album artwork and track listing are expected soon.
The band commented on the new album:
"What conflict could run so deep that it takes you to the deepest corners of your inner world? Today we are surrounded by a lot of lies, aliases, and people acting like they are wearing an invisible crown - but you better have thick skin if you want to wear this crown! 'Broken Crown Halo' is a cinematic album that could be the soundtrack of our days - it is a dark vision of a near future when survival is second nature, and failure is not something to be avoided, but rather cultivated with lessons learned along the way.
"We set the bar pretty high with 'Dark Adrenaline' and it hasn't been easy bringing our sound to the next level, but we have lived, learned and grown through a year full of personal issues and changes. We learned to be strong and get stronger, and we felt an inner vibe in this band that we haven't felt before. We locked ourselves in an age-old studio in Milan, Italy, where history was strong and the past met with our future, vintage gear and the influence of classic Italian horror movies and bands like Goblin meeting the fresh and rough sounds of the modern world with unique and invigorating results. 'Broken Crown Halo' is Lacuna Coil introducing a new order, and letting nothing stand in our way..." More...
Lacuna Coil has issued this statement about missing the upcoming Shiprocked Cruise:
"We are truly sorry to announce that we have had to cancel our appearance at the 2014 Shiprocked Cruise.
"We are dealing with some very serious personal family matters at this time which demand our full attention. Sadly, we are unable to travel such a far distance away from our loved ones.
"We truly hope that you can understand. Our most sincere apologies to everyone planning to come see us.
"We hope to see everyone very soon."

The good news keeps coming for metal fans, with the Bloodstock festival announcing two more additions to the 2014 bill.
Lacuna Coil is set to grace the main stage on Saturday and fiery front woman Cristina Scabbia comments, “To be back at Bloodstock will be such a BLAST! I can't wait to see my family of Coilers in the UK again and to meet new friends. I promise pure damn adrenaline from our stage!! See ya there!"
Co-vocalist, Andrea Ferro enthuses, “The UK is one of my favourite places to perform, it's really special. The audiences are so enthusiastic, their approach to rock music just feels similar to my own somehow and that's why I'm really excited to be part of Bloodstock Open Air 2014! It will be Lacuna Coil's second time there and I'm curious to see how the festival has grown. We will have songs from the new album and some LC classics, so see ya all in the summer!”
Slipping into Saturday’s special guest slot will be Carcass. Bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker warns, “Unfinished business… Carcass will return to Bloodstock 2014. With new blood, new album, new songs, we'll be firing on all cylinders. If you think you've already seen this band, think again. We'll see you come what may in the mud and the rain, there to knock the air out of your inflatable swords and knock the wind out of your sails. Let there be rot!”
Lacuna Coil has officially begun work on an upcoming new studio album, which will be follow-up to "Dark Adrenaline" (reviewed here), released back in January 2012.
Joining Lacuna Coil in Italy to record the album is producer Jay Baumgardner, whose credits include P.O.D., Sevendust, Evanescence, and more. Says frontwoman Cristina Scabbia of the new album:
"I am so excited to work on new stuff... I am sure a lot of people will be mesmerized by the cinematic vibe of the new album that's underway. I'm very happy to have the chance to work with Jay. Not only is he a pro in what he does, but I am just loving the fact we are going to experiment with new sounds and are getting a different point of view about our art. We're swamped with the music already... LACUNA COIL is back baby!!!" More...

"So, I heard that Nashville is supposed to be some sort of country music capital of the world," says Avatar vocalist Johannes Eckerström in the middle of the band's set. Looking around the scene at Marathon Music Works on February 10th, you wouldn't have guessed it. The night before, Hatebreed brought Shadows Fall, Dying Fetus, and The Contortionist with them to play the same venue, but the metal mob was out again in full force to greet the Swedes for their first stop in town on their first tour of the US.
Although Marathon Music Works is not some gigantic stadium, it is anything but a small venue. Stretching about three blocks around the side of the building, waiting in the line of fans to get into the venue was no small test of endurance. Thankfully, two bars and a sound system that blares Megadeth, Van Halen, and Killswitch Engage await indoors to kickstart the weary. Nashville was about to get a multi-national blast of warm loudness to counter the falling temperature. More...

Lacuna Coil made the band's first appearance in Helsinki since February 15th, 2010, on the Shallow Life World Tour. Unaccompanied, Lacuna Coil performed a 2-hour set, complete with a 5-song acoustic set, ranging all the way from "In A Reverie" to the 2012 release, "Dark Adrenaline" (reviewed here). This night kicked off the Dark Legacy European tour.
In a twist of fate, Lacuna Coil was yet again in Helsinki without the full band. In the 2010 show, Marco “Maus” Biazzi was unable to play due to an injury, and likewise this year, he was recovering from a shoulder injury and unable to participate. As well, Cristiano “Criz” Mozzati was taking this one out because of the recent birth of his daughter. As such, another drummer friend, Ryan Folden, was substituting for this tour.
Lacuna Coil wins some big points to viewers for being a very crowd-friendly band. Vocalist Cristina Scabbia in particular tells stories about the songs and the meaning behind them, letting the crowd get not only a live performance, but a bit of insight into the deeper meanings of the songs the fans love.
