Veterans Concerned About Music As A Weapon IV Tour

The Green Bay Press Gazette has reported the following story about Veterans raising concerns over the last stop of the Music as a Weapon IV tour:

Veterans say a festival that could include tobacco sampling, a tattoo parlor and heavy metal music doesn't belong near the Brown County Veterans Memorial on Armed Forces Drive.

The village recently approved a permit for the Music as a Weapon event, set to take place 2-6 p.m. May 17 at the Resch Center before a Disturbed concert later that night. Organizers say the event won't happen near the memorial, which sits on the corner of South Oneida Street and Armed Forces Drive, but some vets are wary the scene will mock the memorial.

"That is sacred land to the veterans," World War II veteran Bob Young told the Village Board. "They don't like to see it abused." More...

Killswitch Engage Announces New Self-Titled Album

Massachusetts band Killswitch Engage have announced that upcoming fourth studio album through Roadrunner Records will be self-titled. The album, produced by Brendan O'Brien (AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine) and co-produced by guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, will hit stores on June 30.

Some of the working track titles for the album include "Reckoning," "The Forgotten," "Light in a Darkened World" and "Starting Over." Vocalist Howard Jones commented on the album by saying, "It was time for us to step outside of our comfort zone and try something a little different with this record. It definitely still sounds like us, but we needed to be refreshed and take things a little further." The singer also comments on the album being the band's second self-titled effort of its career, saying, "When we all couldn't agree on an album title, someone suggested we just keep it self-titled and we all pretty much agreed...gives it the feeling of a fresh new beginning."

Killswitch Engage have been playing the tentatively titled "Light in a Darkened World" during their set on the Music As A Weapon Tour, where they are serving as main support to Disturbed. The band also performed the song as the opening act of the first annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which were held on Tuesday, April 7 in Los Angeles.

Music as a Weapon 4 Tour Report

The Music as a Weapon 4 Tour is not just a couple of bands tagging along with Disturbed for a romp around the states. It is an all day festival of skin art, extreme sports, and music in addition to the headliner bands that draw the crowds in the first place. It all sounded wonderful to me when I bought my tickets. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out that way. More...

Megadeth To Headline Golden Gods Awards

Megadeth has been confirmed as the headlining performer at America's first edition of the Golden Gods awards this year which takes place on April 7th at Club Nokia in Los Angeles, California. Other bands performing that night will be Killswitch Engage, Hatebreed, All That Remains and Suicide Silence, plus Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson (AKA DJ Starscream) will be doing a special DJ set. Stay tuned for more details.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine says: "Finally a heavy metal award, of the people, by the people, and for the people! This evening's line-up of talent is a heavy metal fan's wet dream! Only Revolver would have the credibility to make our dreams come true with the First Annual Golden Gods Awards. To see Ozzy get a lifetime achievement is long overdue. It is an honor to say, ‘YES! Megadeth will headline!’... I doubt Jethro Tull will be getting an award."

Crooked X Added To Music As A Weapon Tour

Oklahoma's hard rock quartet, Crooked X will play on the second stage at Disturbed's Music As A Weapon IV Tour-a music, tattoo, and lifestyle festival-presented by Samsung Mobile and powered by Sprint. Crooked X will rock The Ernie Ball Second Stage, which will be officially sponsored by multi-city battle of the bands organization Headbang For the Highway, a 38-city, nine-week trek, which kicks off March 20th in Madison, WI. "I would go to this show even if we weren't playing. These are some of our favorite bands. What a great opportunity," says Jesse Cooper, lead guitarist. "I'm so stoked to go on the Music As A Weapon Tour. I'm excited to see Killswitch Engage and Suicide Silence. It's gonna be an experience for sure," adds Forrest French, lead vocals.

Recently, the 15-year-old shredders appeared on their own mini MTV rockumentary, "Rock N Roll Dream," which documented their real-life Cinderella story about four young boys catapulting from a Coweta, OK (population 7,000) garage band to opening for KISS in front of 35,000 screaming fans in Stockholm, Sweden. These events led to CX signing with EMI via McGhee Proffer Media (MPM) in August of 2008, all this within the span of nine months.

Their self-titled 10-song debut for EMI (in stores now), was helmed by hit producers Spencer Proffer (Tina Turner, Quiet Riot, WASP) and Michael Wagener (Metallica, Ozzy, Poison). Standout tracks on the new album include "Gone," "Time Is Now," "You Gotta Bleed," and "Adrenaline." The track "Nightmare," was featured in the successful Rock Band video game while "Gone" and "Rock N Roll Dream" are available as downloadable content for the game. The success of their debut landed them their first national late night TV appearance on ABC's JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE, where they showcased new single "Gone" in addition to fan favorite "Rock N Roll Dream."
