Background
This melodic death metal band, formed by former Carcass’ guitarist, Michael Amott, started out with Johan Liiva on vocals, but then replaced him with Angela Gossow. Though a female replaced him, the band still has the same death metal vocal style. Gossow, who has only been with the band on the past two albums, has been able to create a strong presence in the band.

Machine Head Continues The Black Crusade
Machine Head will be joined by Arch Enemy, Dragonforce, Trivium, and Shadows Fall for the Black Crusade tour throughout Europe this fall. Previously they had only signed on to a handful of Australian dates, but with such an amazing reception at this summer's festivals, decided to stick around.
[Correction: It has been brought to my attention that Machine Head are the headliners of this whole tour and together with Trivium, were instrumental in pulling the whole thing together, hence the title 'The Black Crusade,' drawing from the two bands' current album titles ('The Blackening' and 'The Crusade'). They didn't only sign on for the Aussie dates, as the whole idea of the tour was theirs to start with. Machine Head are headlining the tour, not Arch Enemy as the previous headline may have implied. -deathbringer]

New Arch Enemy Album Details Revealed
ARCH ENEMY are pleased to announce they have completed work on their new album. The new masterpiece, "Rise Of The Tyrant", is the follow-up to 2005's "Doomsday Machine", the band's most successful album to date. They have once again enlisted the duties of acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES) at Sweden's Studio Fredman, where the band recorded all of their albums through "Wages Of Sin" (2001). Look for "Rise of The Tyrant" everywhere on September 25 and see below for its track listing.
ARCH ENEMY mastermind Michael Amott (guitars) comments on the new album and the upcoming touring activities as follows:
"To all ARCH ENEMY fans! So how does it sound, you ask? Well, I am of the opinion that we have made the 'ultimate ARCH ENEMY album'! To me, this album sounds like the perfect mix of melody and brutality. This album is a an organic and honest statement from the band - it's pure f**king Metal at its absolute best, the ARCH ENEMY way.
Fredrik Nordström did a killer mix on the record – the sound is big and intense! This album has everything that ARCH ENEMY represents in my mind. I can't wait to release it and play these songs live for you, the fans! Actually, we have to start rehearsing at some point this summer. We will be playing a couple of festivals in the U.K. (Bloodstock) and Germany (Up From The Ground). These will be the first shows with my brother Christopher (Amott - guitar) back in the band! We also have to work out how to play these new songs, so we will have a very busy summer with ARCH ENEMY, that's for certain!
The touring plan for ARCH ENEMY will start full on after the summer, and we can confirm we will joining the European 'Black Crusade' tour package with MACHINE HEAD, TRIVIUM, DRAGONFORCE and SHADOWS FALL - yeah, that's a pretty impressive tour. Equally exciting for us is the Australian 'Black Crusade' tour, which we will be doing with TRIVIUM and MACHINE HEAD.
Lot's of other cool touring ideas are flying around at the moment - looks like we also might be visiting places on this planet where ARCH ENEMY has not yet had the pleasure of playing. Let the madness begin."

Arch Enemy "Rise of the Tyrant" Details Reported
According to an unconfirmed report by Hall of Metal, Arch Enemy have set "Rise of the Tyrant" as the title of their follow-up to 2005's "Doomsday Machine", tentatively due on September 25 via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by Fredrik Nordström at the new Studio Fredman in Hyssna, Sweden and will feature artwork by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media.
This release comes as a satisfied end to the band's scheduled eight-week stint at the notorious metal factory, where they recorded.
Vocalist Angela Gossow previously stated about the upcoming LP, "I experimented quite a bit with doubling vocal lines on the last album, which I now feel kind of took personality and vocal attack away. So this time it's the classic, one-vocal-track, no-frills, no-effects approach."
This album has Arch Enemy reuniting with Nordström, who last worked with the band on 2001's breakthrough "Wages of Sin". "Fredrik produced that record and I think the material we have is a little bit more in that vein," guitarist Michael Amott told Decibel magazine. "It's more intense than what we've seen on the last couple of albums. We went back a little bit to what we did on 'Burning Bridges' and 'Wages of Sin', with more riffs, more melodies, a bit more stuff going on, more action-packed."

Thrash Metal Book To Surface In September
Zonda Books has posted this press release:
Garry Sharpe-Young's latest book, "Thrash Metal", is being readied for publication this September. In addition, Zonda Books publishes Garry's "Death Metal", "Black Metal" and "Power Metal" all before the end of the year. These MusicMight titles replace the 2001 editions, which have consistently ranked number 1 on their Amazon.com searches for five years and more.
Thrash Metal. At first mocked by the Rock traditionalists Thrash would swamp the hard n' heavy world propelling one of its own - METALLICA, to the very pinnacle of Rock's elite.
In the early 80s Thrash breathed new life into the Rock scene providing older acts with a much needed kick. This new force opened the floodgates to armies of teens armed with flying Vs, bullet belts and a sense of purpose that would fuel genres such as Thrashcore, Crossover and technical Speed Metal. Without Thrash there would be no Death Metal, no Black Metal. That explosion of aggression has seen subsequent afterblasts, most recently Europe and South America has seen a genuine renaissance of Thrash Metal.
Without doubt, Thrash Metal still continues to make its mark in the biggest possible way. The "big four" - METALLICA, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX and SLAYER are all documented here in the greatest possible detail with full, up to the minute histories, exclusive photographs and global discographies, which include demos, albums, singles, chart positions, track listings and catalogue numbers. Over 400,000 words leave no stone left unturned in pursuit of knowledge of ex-members, rare recordings and career milestones. The author has interviewed all these major acts. Indeed, he interviewed METALLICA's late Cliff Burton just days before his passing. The early days of MEGADETH are straight from the mouth of Dave Mustaine.
Also covered are the legion of groundbreaking Bay Area acts such as METAL CHURCH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL and HIRAX. The European thrash explosion of KREATOR, RAGE, DESTRUCTION, SODOM, GRAVE DIGGER and HELLOWEEN is also covered in frightening detail. The Pagan Thrash of SABBAT, the avant garde eccentricity of CELTIC FROST and the Funk Thrash of MORDRED - it's all here. The second wave of thrash with major artists such as SEPULTURA, PANTERA and MACHINE HEAD takes the genre right up to the new breed of Thrashers, now a truly world-wide phenomenon. All examined in depth.
Having achieved its quarter of a century, Thrash Metal is not only alive, it is thriving. If you thought this rawest form of Heavy Metal was consigned to the past this book will deliver a rude awakening! Read the book, buy the records and bang that head!!
The scope of 'Thrash Metal' includes artists such as A.N.I.M.A.L., ABANDONED, ABATTOIR, ACCUSSER, ACID, ACID DRINKERS, ACID REIGN, ACROPHET, AFTERMATH, AGENT STEEL, AGONY, AGRESSOR, AIRDASH, AMEBIX, ANESTHESY, ANGEL WITCH, ANGKOR WAT, ANNIHILATOR, ANTHRAX, ANVIL, ANVIL CHORUS, APOKALYPTIC RAIDS, ARBITRATER, ARCH ENEMY, ARMORED SAINT, ARMOURED ANGEL, ARTILLERY, ASSASSIN, AT WAR, ATHEIST, ATOMIZER, ATOMKRAFT, ATROPHY, AZOTIC REIGN...
And that's just some of the "A"'s!

The Black Crusade Tour To Hit The UK

MACHINE HEAD have always been revolutionary in bringing monumental albums every damn time they put one out; DRAGONFORCE are sweeping (literally and guitar-atively) the entire world with their lightning fast precision and incredibly memorable tracks; and ARCH ENEMY are queen and kings of a metal capable of being so brutal and heavy, yet so melodic and catchy. It's great to look at this line-up purely as a music fan and know that us Triviums are gonna have a fantastic time ourselves, being able to watch some of our favourite bands who also happen to be some of our best friends in the metal world."

"Hells yeah, I am done with my vocals! I recorded 14 songs in total, faster then ever. Plenty of first takes there, hardly any double vocals, just straight-up into the microphone.
"I experimented quite a bit with doubling vocal lines on the last album, which I now feel kind of took personality and vocal attack away. So this time it's the classic, one-vocal-track, no-frills, no-effects approach. More...

"Yessssss, I can finally blurt it out: HE IS BACK!" she writes on her MySpace page. "Our brother Chris has returned to his rightful place, that is being a guitar hero in ARCH ENEMY! It was hard to sit on the news for all these weeks. 'Cuz really all I wanted to do was running up and down the streets and cry it out loud. It felt so wrong without him, although Fredrik [?kesson] is a wonderful guy and a great talent. But Chris [Amott] and Michael started this band together and they are ARCH ENEMY for me. Their signature guitar work is what got me into this band in the first place. Plus, we missed Chris dearly as a person, as a great friend. He is out of school and back into rock 'n' roll!"
Christopher surprised many by departing ARCH ENEMY at the end of the "Doomsday Machine" recording sessions in 2005, having been in the band for 10 years (starting with ARCH ENEMY at age 18). Christopher followed his urge to see the outside world and find what else is out there apart from music. Having done that, the time is right for him to return to the fold with a newly injected bite and focus and to resume his career.
Commenting on the re-grouping announcement he states: "This is very exciting for me, returning to ARCH ENEMY as a full-time member! Right now we are working on our forthcoming album and I'm very pleased about the way it's turning out. The new songs are fast and furious with lots of melody! To all the people who sent me kind messages while I was out of the band, thank you for your support, it helped me a lot. After this (much needed) two-year break, I'm looking forward to getting back on the road. I hope to see you all later this year!"
ARCH ENEMY has spent the last weeks locked in intense rehearsals at its homebase in Halmstad, Sweden, putting the final touches to the new material and integrating Christopher on the new songs for the forthcoming studio album.
