Behemoth Added To Ozzfest 2007 Second Stage

Polish extreme metal titans BEHEMOTH have been added to the Ozzfest 2007 lineup. The band has landed the direct-support, non-rotating slot right before second-stage headliners HATEBREED. This is the first time a Polish act has ever participated in Ozzfest.

The Ozzfest 2007 billing is now shaping up as follows:

Main Stage:

OZZY OSBOURNE
LAMB OF GOD
[to be announced]
LORDI

Second Stage – Non-Rotating:

HATEBREED
BEHEMOTH
MONDO GENERATOR

Second Stage – Rotating:

NILE
ANKLA
CIRCUS DIABLO
THE SHOWDOWN
3 INCHES OF BLOOD
DAATH
IN THIS MOMENT
[to be announced]

Nergal (vocals, guitars) states, "I couldn't be more proud about the fact that BEHEMOTH will be joining this year's Ozzfest! I'm speechless and beyond excited. No doubt it's going to be the brightest point of our career thus far, and I hope that this will help to spread dangerous and extreme music among the masses. It's an honor to team up with our longtime brothers in NILE and to share the stage with LAMB OF GOD and HATEBREED, not to mention the legend himself! With such a bill, you can expect nothing but pure metal carnage! What makes me even more excited is the little fact that we will be releasing our new album during the tour. So expect songs from 'The Apostasy', as well as some older shit. We'll definitely make sure the set is going to be brutal as fuck. You've been warned!" More...

In This Moment Added to Ozzfest 2007

IN THIS MOMENT will spend this summer on Ozzfest 2007 as a part of the second stage's rotating lineup alongside such acclaimed artists as HATEBREED, NILE, THE SHOWDOWN and 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, among others. This will be the group's biggest tour yet, and as guitarist Chris Howorth states, it is an opportunity they meet with open arms. "We are very proud and honored to be a part of this year's Ozzfest," he said. "Not only are we huge Ozzy fans and excited to be playing with him every day, but this year's festival is free, so everyone has a chance to come out and be a part of this amazing experience. It's going to be a great chance to reach out to an entirely new audience. We are also looking forward to playing with and getting to know all the rest of the bands on the tour. It's so surreal because not too long ago we were watching the Ozzfest as fans out in the crowd, and now we are performing. It's an unbelievable feeling — we are so blessed!"

The Ozzfest billing is now shaping up as follows:

Main Stage:

OZZY OSBOURNE
LAMB OF GOD
[to be announced]
LORDI

Second Stage – Non-Rotating:

Lordi: Eurovision Not Good For Rock Credibility

Finnish 2006 Eurovision Song Contest winners Lordi were recently interviewed by Chad Bower of About: Heavy Metal on everything from their expectations for their up-coming U.S. tour to their album The Arockalypse and their stage performance and costume, and their plans for a follow-up album, to the band's "horror and rock restaurant" in the Arctic Circle. Some excerpts from the interview follow:

Chad Bowar: Lordi are hugely successful in Finland, and have done very well in Europe as a whole. What are you plans and expectations for the United States?

Mr. Lordi: Plans and expectations can be two different things! The plan is to tour there and see how it goes and see how the audience will react to us and our music and the whole package. Our expectations are to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Everybody in the band is optimistic about everything, but on the other hand you have to be realistic at the same time. We are hoping we’ll be a huge major act there, but we have our feet firmly on the ground. We’ll see what happens.

Chad Bowar: It must have been an amazing experience to have 600 million people watching you win Eurovision, and then be welcomed home by the President of your country.

Mr. Lordi: We’ve been doing this for a while, and we’ve been doing our own thing against the mainstream. Any critic in Europe will say that we’re just about the image, it’s just a gimmick. But that’s not true. We’re 100 percent honest in what we do. With Eurovision, we didn’t think we would win. We thought we could win, but we didn’t think that kind of miracle would happen. To suddenly go from being a marginal heavy metal band dressed up as monsters to national heroes overnight has its pros and cons. It’s nice to get recognized and be treated well by important people in your own country. Orf course that feels good. But then again Eurovision is something no rock band should do if they want to keep a shred of credibility. But we won and still did our own thing. It was nice we won. We got all sorts of good stuff because of that. One thing leads to another.

Chad Bower: Will U.S. audiences be seeing your full light and pyro show on this tour?

Mr. Lordi: If it were up to me, I would say yes, but we are newcomers and nobody knows us over there and we don’t have the budget to bring over the whole show. We want to bring as much as we can. This is our first album there. Hopefully everything goes well and then we’ll be able to bring the full production. Thanks to the internet we already have a small but loyal fan base in the U.S. that have been there since our first single. Those guys have seen the DVDs and videos and have watched You Tube to see our shows in Europe. But they know they won’t see that full show the first time we go there. But there is one thing for certain: we’ll look prettier than any other band.

Chad Bower: Speaking of that, how long does it take you to get in and out of the costumes?

Mr. Lordi: For me it takes around three hours for the face. I have to glue all the prosthetic pieces on my face and hide the edges of the pieces. The costume takes 10 to 15 minutes to put on. The rest of the band can get into their costumes and characters a lot faster. It takes them anywhere from a half hour to an hour and a half. Then after the concert it takes me an hour and a half because I have to get all the latex and glue out of my hair and beard before I go to sleep.

Nile Mainman: "We're Too Heavy For Ozzfest"

Nile frontman Karl Sanders has commented on Nile's involvement on this summers Ozzfest along with Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb of God, Lordi, Hatebreed and others.

Karl Sanders stated "Been getting a lot of messages about Ozzfest, and the general concensus is, we are either giving a good reason for metalheads to go to the show, or we're going someplace we don't belong because we're 'too heavy for Ozzfest.'

"Well, here's how I see it: There is a brief scene in 'Saving Private Ryan', during the opening sequence on the Normandy Beach, where just for a few seconds the camera moves to a viewpoint of a German machine-gunner — looking over his machine-gun sights down onto the beach — who is laying waste to countless U.S. soldiers as the doors open up to their boats and they are all just helpless and vulnerable, in the water and struggling onto the beach, exposed to devastating machine gunfire — and from this vantage point, one can not help but get the feeling, if only for a moment, of what it must feel like to be that machine gunner, with so many helpless targets right in your sights to mow down at will. Of course, for that machine-gunner, you also feel that, however awesome it must be for those priceless few moments of godly slaughter, it will inevitably be short-lived, because he is soon to be roasted alive in his bunker as soon as Tom Hanks and friends make it up the hill. But for those few moments of unimpeded opportunity to mow down wave after wave of helpless targets, it had to be utterly godly.

"That's why we are doing Ozzfest. We will be the first real death metal band to ever play Ozzfest, and the chance to lay waste to thousands and thousands of mall metal posers is just too once-in-a-lifetime to pass up.

"In the words of Ross Dolan, 'Metal will take place.'

"I could care less about how much incredible exposure it will be to play Ozzfest; I am just thrilled at the possibility of metal carnage on a mass scale. Those venues will look like Omaha Beach when we are done."

You see all of our influences — mostly musically and visually, come from the States, so we'e keeping our fingers crossed."

Since winning Eurovision (the song contest that previously was a springboard for mainstream artists such as ABBA and CELINE DION) by its highest score ever, LORDI's popularity has grown to gargantuan heights, with the band conquering numerous European charts and a six-week sold out tour of Europe. The band's latest album, "The Arockalypse" has been certified triple platinum in Finland and is now also among the Top 60 best-selling Finnish albums ever. In addition to gracing the cover of dozens of Finnish publications, news features on LORDI's groundbreaking Eurovision win appeared outside of Finland in media outlets such as The New York Times, The Guardian and Spin. Lordi Fans Demand Apology

2006 Eurovision winners Lordi have about 15,000 of their fans demanding an appology from one of the French television hosts of the contest. The fans have all signed an internet petition at www.ipetitions.com

Alegedly, the French tv host said "Finland has been participating in the Eurovision contest for the past 44 years and has never won. They're certainly not gonna win with this", after Lordi's May 20 show. Another host said "It's fresh, it's light, it's sober. I didn't picture the Finns like this. They'll be at the Vincennes zoo in the fall."

Lordi ended up winning Eurovision with a record number of points and both remarks have greatly angered Lordi fans. And so they are demanding an apology. To sign the petition, go here ( in French only, scroll to the bottom of the page).
