Gus G. Shares New Song Featuring Matt Barlow
Internationally acclaimed guitarist, composer, and Firewind mastermind, Gus G., has released his fifth solo album, "Steel Burner." Marking his first solo offering in five years, the record delivers a blistering fusion of modern instrumental metal and carefully curated vocal collaborations with some of heavy music’s most legendary voices.
To herald the album’s arrival, Gus G. has dropped a powerhouse new single and accompanying video for "Dancing With Death," featuring the unmistakable, commanding vocals of former Iced Earth and current Ashes Of Ares frontman, Matt Barlow. An epic metal track with a contemporary edge, "Dancing With Death" explores the dark, gripping theme of addiction. You can check it out below.
Gus G. comments: "My new solo album has finally arrived and now it’s yours! To celebrate this big day, I wanted to drop yet another new video, this one from my collaboration with the one & only Matt Barlow of Iced Earth & Ashes of Ares fame. Matt’s vocal style is unique and will definitely remind you of those 90s Iced Earth vibes. But make no mistake – this is a power metal track with today’s energy, aggression and passion, forged in the here and now, and one that hopefully will stand the test of time. Enjoy!" More...
Ashes Of Ares Posts Official Video
Ashes Of Ares will release its new album "New Messiahs" on July 18th in the EU and on August 8th in the US. “Wake Of Vultures," the new official video, is derived from the idea of misery loves company, but this goes one step further. This is the back side of involving yourself with a group of miserable people. Once you are a part of that group, you are either a vulture or you are the miserable piece of meat that they feast upon. "Another cautionary tale…I’m seeing a pattern.” - the band states. More...

Ashes Of Ares Releases New Music Video
Nine years after forming, legendary heavy metal duo, Ashes Of Ares, have released their third studio album, "Emperors And Fools."
This album sees Matt Barlow and Freddie Vidales take the darkness and aggression from their previous album, "Well Of Souls," to a higher echelon. The writing process began almost immediately after Well Of Souls was released. As usual, it was a true collaborative effort between the two, with ideas originating from one or the other, then evolving and being refined to what is presented on "Emperors And Fools."
Today, the band release a video for the new single, "Gone". Watch below. More...
Ashes Of Ares Posts "The Alien" Video Online

You can check it out below. The song comes from the band's sophomore studio album, "Well Of Souls," which was released today through Rock Of Angels Records.

Ashes Of Ares Parts With Van Williams
Ashes Of Ares - the U.S. group featuring ex-Iced Earth member Matt Barlow - has parted ways with drummer Van Williams. Barlow had this to say:
"We know it has been a while since you’ve heard from us, but that’s about to change. Unfortunately though, there is an announcement we must make first. Founding member Van Williams has stepped down from Ashes of Ares. This decision was both mutual and amicable, and we wish Van nothing but the best with Ghost Ship Octavius and any other future endeavors.
"What does that mean for the future of Ashes of Ares? It means Matt and Freddie are continuing on. Eight songs are written, and two or three more will be finished up soon (and possibly some bonus tracks on top of that), then we can begin pre-production. So basically, we will fully record demo versions of all the songs to appear on the album to make sure they are how we want them before recording the final versions. Thank you to everyone who has been checking in on us and asking when you will get new material. Now you know, so stay tuned for more news soon." More...

ProgPower USA XVI, Part 1: Mid-Week Mayhem
Sunday....September 20, 2015....the alarm blared at 4:45pm. I guess I forgot to change it from the normal weekday. I sit up - still reeling from the post-ProgPower USA plague, a disease that seems to permeate from the long hours and constant human communication/contact over a four day annual ritual - or rite of passage for the newbie virgins. I reach for another cough drop and open unlock my phone to reveal this morning’s round of Facebook notifications.
Oh...a tag on a video from Dragonland’s second set at ProgPower USA...yes, I said “second.” Why a tag? Well, as it turned out, yours truly was afforded the incredible honor of joining the band on stage for “The Black Mare.” As I sit and contemplate just how that weekend transpired - all the changes, the problems Glenn and Jen Harveston and all involved had to endure in keeping a solidified lineup in the face of the dreaded USCIS - there really is a magic that happens in Atlanta. No matter how it turns out...it never ceases to raise the bar each and every year. More...
Persefone Dropped From ProgPower USA
ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston announced that Andorra's Persefone is the latest band to be cancelled from the 2015 roster, in part due to visa issues. The USCIS has reared its ugly head causing the most issues since 2009 for the annual festival.
Harveston explains: "Unfortunately, this situation is not a simple as the Morgana Lefay cancellation, although the visa process is once again at the root of things. It is no secret now the USCIS center in Vermont is running 4-6 weeks behind their normal schedule assuming there is no RFE (request for evidence). We technically still have three weeks we can wait to receive these visas and then schedule the mandatory interviews. However, Persefone booked a European tour in June with the assumption they would have completed the interviews prior to kicking off their tour. They cannot complete any interviews while on tour. I requested they wait until after the tour and then complete the interviews as there was still possibly time. I was informed the day job of one of the band members prevents him from traveling to Madrid during that time frame, especially with no specific date to schedule currently. Thus, I am left with no choice but to cancel the band now.
"I know these types of explanations are frustrating to you, the fans. There is simply nothing that can be done. In the immortal words of the great American poet, Jimmy Buffett, 'Breathe in..Breathe Out..Move On.' Please know that there is no animosity between the band and myself. I truly understand and empathize with their situation. I wish the band nothing but the best and will continue to support them in the future."
Within hours of the announcement, Canada's Unleash the Archers was added to the bill. The latest roster list is as follows: More...
Jeff Scott Soto To Replace Morgana Lefay At PPUSA
Legendary hard rock/metal vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Talisman, T.S.O., ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) has been confirmed for the sold-out ProgPower USA festival this year in Atlanta, Georgia, replacing Sweden's Morgan Lefay, who became the latest victim of the USICS Visa System. In a special performance, Jeff will celebrate his entire 30 year career at the festival performing songs from many of his bands along the way, including Talisman, Yngwie Malmsteen, Axel Pell Rudi, W.E.T., Rock Star, as well as his solo releases.
Jeff stated: "Having known about the ProgPower USA fest for years, I'm proud to be invited to present the ONLY US show this year with my 30th anniversary show! Me and the boys couldn't be more excited to rock Atlanta!"
Promoter Glenn Harveston added: "I’m honestly still in awe Jeff has graciously stepped up to the plate to help us out at the last minute. I can say I have never had such an amazing and quick conversation with an artist when it comes to booking a band. That is not only a sign of a true professional, but someone wanting to perform for our festival audience. Nothing fires up this crowd more than knowing a legendary name like Jeff Scott Soto actually wants to be in Atlanta. I'd also like to thank Sun Hill Management for the great response time."
Jeff Scott Soto recently took part in the sold out T.S.O./Savatage two stage spectacle at Wacken this past weekend. His latest solo release "Inside the Vertigo," under the monikor Soto, was released by earMusic back in January. More...

ProgPower USA XIV: A Friday To Remember
Internationally respected, domestically loved, and locally interesting (“Look at all these black-shirted people walking into this Einstein Bagel Co!”), the ProgPower USA festival returned to its frequent home at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia this past weekend for its fourteenth year of bringing quality metal to the stateside masses.
Through the hallowed gates (err… glass and metal doors) of the venue, almost anything was possible on the days of September 5-7. To some, it was an ocean of opportunity or a place to be reborn in metal. To others, a place to spend endless nights with the masters of the world themselves. To most of the 1,000+ attendees, it was where they went to reach within, feel alive, and leave with a sense of pride -- nobody was wondering “Why am I here?,” even if it was only the 1st chapter of their ProgPower story. (For this writer, the festival was also a chance to write 9 song/album titles from the bands that would be performing at the show into this second paragraph about the show. Because it sounded really cool.)
As previously detailed, the festival brought 5 bands to the states for the first time and 16 in total throughout the three days, with an extra 2 added to that in a separate Wednesday show. When I had arrived on Friday, the ProgPower elite who had come both days prior to it were feeling quite at ease and even had a sort of comfortable glow about them. I later learned that this was due in part to warm hangovers, but mostly due the awesomeness of the concerts on the days leading up to Friday, which were written about in part by Metal Underground admin CROMCarl. This, however, is the record of my time at this year's crazy heavy wonderland. More...

ProgPower USA XIV: At A Glance
In its 14th year for 2013, the ProgPower USA Festival is one of the longest-running US festivals, and the longest-running US multi-day festival to feature bands from outside the US.
This year, it has the special distinction of being the US debut show for five bands. Totaling more than a hundred and twenty band performances in its time, it has developed a reputation as a tastemakers’ festival, heightening awareness within the US of foreign bands.
It can be a daunting festival, price- and endurance-wise, but it’s one that should be considered if the genres it derives its name from at all turn your head. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s celebration of the fast and the nerdy down at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia, starting on September 4th. More...
