On May 12th in Europe and on May 13th in North America, Vallenfyre's second full-length, "Splinters," will be released via Century Media Records.
The cover artwork was created by Brian D'Agosta, who previously drew a logo for Vallenfyre bassist Scoot's other band, Extinction of Mankind. For a first preview of "Splinters," a video trailer featuring part of the album's opening track, "Scabs", can be viewed belwo.
"Vallenfyre was something I felt utterly compelled to do. It was almost like I didn't have a choice. I was told by a bereavement counselor that I should write down and vocalize my feelings. I did just that and then everything just seemed to take a natural course," is how Greg Mackintosh (vocals/lead guitars) describes the initial spark helping him to transform the anger and sadness ensuing the loss of his father into the band's firs talbum "A Fragile King" (2011). The Obscene Extreme festival will be taking place from July 16th - 20th, with ticket information available at this location. Now the festival has announced several new additions to the lineup, including Brutal Truth and Morgoth. The festival organizers comment:
"Few bands represent Obscene Extreme as fully as US grind legends Brutal Truth – they've weathered break-ups and line-up changes, but never once have they halted in their mission to keep pushing the bleeding edge of grindcore.
"Never complacent, each steamroller of Brutal Truth album has furthered their sound and moved the goalposts for the whole damn genre in the process. Now bassist, founding member and extreme metal champion Dan Lilker approaches his 50th birthday, he's stepping back from music and his baby - Brutal Truth - will be no more.
"When the band returned in 2006, it was Obscene Extreme the following year that welcomed them back as very personification of the festival. Now, seven years later we'll bid them farewell with one final performance. Obscene Extreme 2014 – this promises to be unforgettable!!!
"Another band that will be stepping out onto the Obscene Extreme stage this year will be fathers of the German death metal scene, the mighty Morgoth. Originally split in 1998 after only three albums - the coffin-lid hammering of 1991's ‘Cursed,’ 1993's forward-thinking ‘Odium’ and their most divisive albums ever, 1995's post-punk ‘Feel Sorry For The Fanatic.’ More...
U.K.'s Vallenfyre, featuring Paradise Lost's Gregor Mackintosh, has officially entered the studio to record their second full-length album entitled "Splinters." The album is expected for release in MNay 2014 via Century Media Records.
Mackintosh (vocals and lead guitars) commented: "We have now arrived in a very cold Salem, MA and are currently holed up in Godcity Studio with producer Kurt Ballou tracking drums for our second album, 'Splinters'. We are really digging Kurt's honest, old-fashioned approach to recording. No triggers or samples. Just a good drum kit, good mics and a good drummer."
In 2011, Gregor Mackintosh (Paradise Lost) announced that he would go back to his death metal roots with his new band, Vallenfyre. The level of expectation was set high with a line-up consisting of Hamish Glencross (guitar; My Dying Bride), Scoot (bass; Doom), Adrian Erlandsson (drums; At the Gates/Paradise Lost/The Haunted. Century Media has issued the following announcement about Vallenfyre performing the band's first live show:
"We promised you that VALLENFYRE is not a one-off studio project, and we are now proud to announce their first ever live show! VALLENFYRE's stage debut will take place at the Tavastia Club in Helsinki, Finland on February 2nd, 2012."
Gregor Mackintosh (vocals and lead guitar) comments, "I have a long and happy history with Helsinki. From the Lepakko club 20 years ago, right up to the present day, it has always been one of my favourite places to be. I have many fond memories and have made many great friends over the years. It is for this reason I decided that the very first live performance by my new band VALLENFYRE should be in Helsinki. Century Media has checked in with the following announcement about singing a deal with death metal act Vallenfyre:
"Century Media Records is proud to announce the signing of U.K. death metal band Vallenfyre! Like Israel's Sonne Adam, Vallenfyre debuted with a 7" single on the underground label Imperium Productions and also mixes classic death metal with doom-but in case of Vallenfyre, there's some additional British crust thrown into the mix."
In regards to the band's signing, Jens Prueter (Head Of A&R, Century Media Records Europe) also commented: "I was already blown away by Vallenfyre's old school orgy of doomy and crusty death metal riffs when I heard the first demo last Winter, and the new 7" sounds even better. So I couldn't hesitate to offer them a deal straight away. That's how we signed Grave and Asphyx over 20 years ago-- and we all know that it was a good decision. So welcome to another chapter of Century Media's Death Metal legacy. Vallenfyre's debut album 'A Fragile King' is already recorded and will be released in late October 2011. If you like a mix of early Entombed, Celtic Frost, Autopsy, and Amebix you should hurry up to buy the last few copies of the 'Desecration' 7" which was limited to only 500 copies by Imperium Productions."
The "Desecration / Iconoclast" 7" was released a few weeks ago, and a few copies are still available. To hear samples from both songs and to purchase the 7", head over to the Vallenfyre website.
