Background
Formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1995, Slipknot was a nine-member alternative metal band whose members adopted numerals as performing aliases; the stabilized lineup, in order from 0 to 8, included DJ Sid Wilson, drummer Joey Jordison, bassist Paul Grey, percussionist Chris Fehn, guitarist James Root, sampler/programmer Craig Jones, percussionist Shawn Crahan, guitarist Mic Thompson, and vocalist Corey Taylor.
In 1996, the group self-released an album titled Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. and attracted the attention of several labels, including Roadrunner, which signed the band the following year. Slipknot's eponymous official debut was released in 1999.
Slipknot has been a wide attraction on Ozzfest. Many people want to see what makes this band tick. With nine members, halloween masks, and metal they certainly are an attraction.

Slipknot Drummer Looking Ahead To S.American Tour
Launch Radio Networks reports: SLIPKNOT begins its first-ever South American tour on September 18 in Bogota, Colombia, and drummer Joey Jordison told Launch that the band can't wait to finally visit the continent. "I've heard some pretty crazy stories about being down there, and the fans, and how rabid they are," he said. "We've been trying to get down there for a while. This is our third record, so since '99, people have been trying to pull us down there. And only now have we had the chance to be able to go down there, so we're really looking forward to that, so that should be pretty intense."
SLIPKNOT's South American trip will also take the group to Brazil, Venezuela, and Argentina.
The Iowa-based group will kick off a North American tour on October 14 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This will be the band's final run in support of its 2004 release, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)".
The band recorded its recent shows in Singapore, Las Vegas, and the Japanese cities of Tokyo and Osaka for a live CD/DVD package that's due out on November 1.
Burger King Files Lawsuit Against Slipknot
According to MTV.com, Burger King has filed a lawsuit on Friday against Slipknot in Miami federal court, seeking a judgment that their use of the mock metal band, Coq Roq, "does not violate any rights, including rights of publicity or trademark rights" of Slipknot. A spokesperson for the band had no comment, and a rep for Burger King could not be reached by press time.
Slipknot Threatens To Sue Mock BK Metal Band
The Smoking Gun reports:
Claiming that its image and persona have been hijacked as part of a marketing campaign for Burger King's new chicken fries, the costumed heavy metal band Slipknot is threatening the fast food giant with legal action. In the below August 4 letter, the band's lawyers charge that Coq Roq--a mock metal band featured in new Burger King commercials--was created as a "look-alike, sound alike 'band' in order to influence the Slipknot generation to purchase Chicken Fries." Counsel for the band notes that Coq Roq--whose masked members are supposed to resemble badass chickens--has blatantly copied several of Slipknot's signature masks, including a gas mask, a kabuki-style face covering, and a mask with dreadlocks attached. Coq Roq's lead guitarist, The Talisman. Details of Slipknot's beef with Burger King surfaced in connection with an August 12 federal court filing made by the fast food company and its advertising firm. Burger King wants a U.S. District Court judge in Miami to issue a "declaratory judgment" that the Coq Roq campaign does not infringe on Slipknot's publicity and trademark rights. As for the similar masks, Burger King lawyers--who apparently read the metal mag Revolver--note that many groups "wear masks and/or make-up to accomplish a mask-like effect, including but not limited to the bands KISS, Gwar, Insane Clown Posse, Mushroomhead, Mudvayne, Marilyn Manson, Los Straitjackets, and the Spits."

Slipknot Drummer: Next Tour Will Be More Intimate
Launch Radio Networks reports: SLIPKNOT will hit the road in North America this fall, with the trek likely to begin on or around October 15. Details of the stage show are still being finalized, but drummer Joey Jordison did tell Launch that the band will scale things down a bit on this run. "We can still play and pack the big places right now, and we're gonna do a few of those, of course, but we were like, if we do one more tour, hit some places that we haven't hit before, play some smaller venues, and do, like, multiple nights in each city, we can make it a little bit more of an intimate, special event again," he said.
Jordison added that SLIPKNOT will play different songs on this tour, including some they haven't played in a few years.
SLIPKNOT will take UNEARTH and AS I LAY DYING out as main support on the tour, with other bands yet to be announced. The only dates revealed so far are a three-night stand in New York City on October 30, October 31 and November 1.
The band is also preparing its first live album, a two-CD set, for release this fall.
SLIPKNOT has been touring for over a year in support of its platinum 2004 album, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", and this run of dates is likely to be the band's last for this record.
The Red Chord Frontman Credits Slipknot
Wormwood Chronicles recently conducted an in-depth interview with THE RED CHORD singer Guy Kozowyk. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Wormwood Chronicles: It's very obvious to me that THE RED CHORD will never release the same album twice. How do you see yourself changing over time?
Guy Kozowyk: "There was a lot of time between the last record and this one. We're going to get a certain amount of shit automatically because we didn't rewrite the first record. That's the case for any band that tries to change their style. We're still going to be a heavy band. I think personally that with a lot of bands becoming lighter and lighter, we are more inclined to go heavier, because if all these bands are mellowing out their sound, who needs another singalong type band? You don't need another SOILWORK or KILLSWITCH ENGAGE or any of that stuff. There's plenty of people doing that. However, I felt with this record, given that the scene is getting really big, that our band definitely has a buzz. There hasn't been a band since CARCASS or SUFFOCATION to all of a sudden go and sell hundreds of thousands of records. I felt like 'Clients' was going to be big. I don't know exactly how big...it might sell 20,000, it might do 10,000, it might do 200,000, I have no clue...but it was our obligation to our roots and our obligation to our fans to write a record that was going to be heavier than the first one, that was going to have more blast beats and more diversity. We definitely wanted to mature as musicians and songwriters and define what THE RED CHORD was. I feel it is our obligation to the whole grindcore/death metal genre to do what we're doing."
Wormwood Chronicles: A lot of heavy bands now use clean vocals and it's getting really overdone.
Guy Kozowyk: "I have a lot of respect for SLIPKNOT for including blast beats on their newest record. Those guys are coming from death metal and hardcore backgrounds. Even though they kind of sell out somewhat and write these big radio hits, they took an extra step and put blast beats on their record. That's cool. THE RED CHORD doesn't do the choruses. We're going to use three times as many blast parts and stay just as heavy and just as crazy."
Wormwood Chronicles: SLIPKNOT must certainly be the biggest "gateway" band.
Guy Kozowyk: "I'll definitely give 'em that. I enjoy some of their stuff. I believe the drummer at one point was in ANAL BLAST. I like the fact that he's coming from that background. You know he's a sick drummer who can do all the crazy fast stuff. Percussion-wise, they're a great band. Energy wise, they're a great band. More than anything, they are expanding the potential for bands like mine. I'm not making a good living doing this, but at least I'm making a living. I can at least tour and get gas money to make it from show to show. There's so many times in the past where we'd have to work and work and work to save money just to go on tour."

Slipknot To Tap Unearth, AILD for Next Tour
SLIPKNOT have tapped UNEARTH and AS I LAY DYING to open for them on their fall tour. Unlike SLIPKNOT's spring outing, which saw the Iowa-based nine-piece performing in arenas, the upcoming month-long trek will consist primarily of multiple dates in smaller venues. So far, only a three-show run in New York City has been announced:
Oct. 30 – Nov. 2 – New York City, NY @ Nokia Theatre
SLIPKNOT are scheduled to release their first live album in October. The CD promises to "convey the excitement of SLIPKNOT's unparalleled live sets," according to a press release.
SLIPKNOT's third album, "Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses)", debuted at #2 on The Billboard 200 on May 31, 2004 after its May 25 release. The CD has been hanging in the Top 200 ever since that release, having sold 1.2 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Nokia Theatre Release Initial Show Lineup
New York City's newest venue the Nokia Theatre, a midsize theater located in Times Square, has released it's initial lineup of shows, which includes the following:
October 17 - DANZIG, CHIMAIRA, BEHEMOTH, HIMSA, MORTIIS, THE AGONY SCENE
October 21 - LES CLAYPOOL
October 26 - BLACK LABEL SOCIETY
October 30 - SLIPKNOT
October 31 - SLIPKNOT
November 1 - SLIPKNOT
The following is an excerpt from a Billboard.com article:
"New York's 2,100-capacity Nokia Theatre Times Square, AEG's newest concert venue, will open in September, with tickets for many shows set to go on sale Aug. 12. The venue is being developed and operated by AEG subsidiary AEG Live, who spent nearly $21 million renovating the old Loews Theatre at 1515 Broadway in Times Square.
Designer David Rockwell and the Rockwell Group are the architects and designers of Nokia Theatre Times Square. The auditorium will feature two VIP mezzanines with lounge seating, a state of the art in-house lighting system and an in-house sound system by JBL.
The Nokia Theatre Times Square marquee is an 85 foot long LED, high definition screen, capable of displaying both live and digital video. It is one of the largest marquees on Broadway, directly connected to the MTV marquee and is manufactured by Mitsubishi. It will have interactive text messaging capabilities with the fans and live events will be able to be broadcast from the stage directly to the marquee in real time."
Roadrunner All-Stars To Appear In October
Roadrunner Records has put together a groundbreaking record to mark the label’s 25th Anniversary. The group is called ROADRUNNER UNITED and the album titled "The All-Star Sessions". This full-length release, in stores on October 11, 2005, is a "master class" in hard rock/metal. Boasting 57 artists from 45 of Roadrunner's past and present bands, the album will contain original tracks that are collaborations between numerous Roadrunner stars.
Four central musicians were originally chosen to produce and write the songs. Joey Jordison (SLIPKNOT), Dino Cazares (ex-FEAR FACTORY/BRUJERIA), Robert Flynn (MACHINE HEAD) and Matthew Heafy (TRIVIUM). These four musicians play on the songs they have written and have also assembled a unique team of artists to appear on each track. In order to cover as wide a spectrum as possible, no musician has played for more than one writer/producer and each song features a different vocalist.
In addition to these stellar teams of musicians, there will also be special additional tracks from ex-Roadrunner artist, Josh Silver — TYPE O NEGATIVE's longtime producer/keyboardist. In the spirit of the project, Silver has included Roadrunner artists on his tracks as well… OPETH's Mikael Åkerfeldt appears on the Silver-written "Roads".
Track names from the Jordison team include "Constitution Down" (with vocals by Kyle Thomas of FLOODGATE/EXHORDER), "Tired ‘N Lonely" (with vocals from Keith Caputo of LIFE OF AGONY) and "Annihilation by the Hand of God" (with vocals from Glen Benton of DEICIDE), among others. Flynn's camp has completed songs like "The Dagger" (with vocals from Howard Jones of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE) and "The Rich Man" (with vocals from Corey Taylor of SLIPKNOT), among others. "The End" (with vocals from Matt Heafy of TRIVIUM) and "The Enemy" (with vocals from Mark Hunter of CHIMAIRA) are some of the team-Cazares product. And tracks from Heafy's sessions include "The Dawn of a Golden Age" (with vocals from Dani Filth of CRADLE OF FILTH), "Superheroes" (with vocals from Michale Graves of the MISFITS) and "Blood and Flames" (with vocals from Jesse Leach — ex-KILLSWITCH ENGAGE singer).
