OK I fvcking tried....could even get past the bald midget's fvcking ridiculous image and retard antics...
BUT, I just can't get past Hetfields frikken HIDEOUS vocal....about the laziest, lackadaisical effort I've seen in some time from a top-paid err, 'professional'

As bad as it all seems guys, I think any band, with far greater talent and accolades, would give their left nut to play in front of a crowd like that. You think Between the Buried and Me would trade accolades for crowds like that? I do. As far as the performance, I saw the song performed in April of 86, so I probably should be pretty critical.

indeed, Ozzy has ALWAYS been blown out...but one fateful day in the early nineties, Hetfield and co made the COGNIZANT decision to start sucking...its inexplicable, I know, but facts is facts
Shoot, the turd danish is one of the most detestable humans on the goddamned planet, but the poor frikken imp at least seems to using the utmost of his severely impaired, eh, "skills" here, while HACKfield seems perfectly content to continue his flaccid braying like a goddamned goat
frikken CVNTS :)

Once again the Cliff Em All version of this song is all I need.
The guitar sound is way too muddy on this version.
Their playing is tight but I had to stop it when Het started singing.
If I heard correctly his voice went down the toilet when he started working with a vocal coach and he/she (?) told him to stop screaming.
Well….now he sounds like this……….SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU STOP SCREAMING?

Last time I saw them, Trijullio was the only really animated one up there. Of course it was April in Arizona so maybe that had something to do with it. Still... Haven't seen Larz this animated since the rest of these old bastards saw them back in 86 with Ozzy and Motley Crue.

I sure hope not. Hetfield's weakness on late albums has been to put too much emotive technique into his playing which is only encouraged as your strings get looser. I don't need groovy string bending and Korn influence - Metallica's strength was always in either brutal sterility (or just straight out speedy thrashings on their first two albums).
It just seems odd that a multimillionaire guitar enthusiast combined with one of the world's most acclaimed record producer could create "Death Magnetic".

Guitar tone is something I'll chime in on. When I'm playing rhythms, I like a low end ballsy tone, and to get it I use thicker gauge strings, low end pick ups and of course a bassy amp like Ampeg or Mesa Boogy. However, I don't do leads and thus the lead guitar always has a brighter "slap you in the face" tone which couples with the gutteral tones I throw out quite nicely. Kirk has his tone which is kind of middle of the road and constantly wha'd out which would be a challenge to produce a thick rhythm tone to as well as a rhythm/lead tone against. Maybe this is the difficulty with their tone lately? Some time spent mixing and expirameting with different tones against Kirk's signature tone may well be a good payoff. Just one man's opinin.

^^^You're totally right, it could be a number of factors, including pickups and string gauge. Or it could be just the fact that they no longer give a crap lol.
If I were James I'd be worrying more about my vocals than my guitar but it is a part of the overall part of the package.
Maybe Koa?
I've heard it has a nice well rounded tone. :)

These guys are getting old - so their voices and movement is going to be hindered. If i could belt out a tune like that when I am that old Id be super happy! I saw these guys in Brissy a few years ago, and will see them again at soundwave in feb. If they are close to that performance i'll be happy. Im seeing Ozzy with sabbth next year too and Im certainly not expecting any stage movement from the poor old fella!

the Bruce and Steve Harris are a hell of a lot older than these fvcking CVNTS, eh Coaster?
Guess they didn't read the part where ya lose yer Willy, get bloated and degenerate, and are actually indulgently satisfied with that?
Jesus frikken christ dude, give me a fvcking break...but oh ya! Enjoy the Show buddy :)

You know, if anything that clip made me sad. Is This really Metallica at it's finest? I mean Really?
I mean, Ulrich is so off, Hammett's slightly off, Hetfield sounds quite awful to be honest. The only good bits are Hetfield's majestic rhythm playing and Trujillo's precise bass pounding.
I really used to love Metallica, but I think that clip is an example of a band performing well past it's "Best Before" date.
As hellrat put it, it's not the age, we all know that. You can be 60, bald, overweight, who cares? I bet 99% of us metal guys are not into metal cos of the way these guys look like.
The thing is, when for example Iron Maiden performs, it's the real deal. That's British metal (British steel? ;) right there. It's authentic.
Looking at Metallica, I dont know, it seems like a bunch of guys performing roles of some sort. It doesn't come across something real or genuine.
I honestly feel bad for slagging off Metallica like this. I used to absolutely love this band. I wonder why I was so stupid to watch this clip.
And why the hell is Metallica releasing 3 years old live footage? This stuff is from 2009! Not for money by any chance?
If you have +50 million USD on your account like these gents do, what difference does a few mil more make?
Why oh why Wolfie did you watch the clip... I'm depressed now.
R.I.P. Metallica.

Thank you WOLF7 you really summed up my feelings on this also...everything looked rehearsed...all the moves (Ulrich especially) to all the goofy expressions. It all looked...fake...dialed in. Do they stand in front of a mirror and practice their "metal" faces?
And the crowd...I realize it's a stadium but did you ever think you'd see the day when people were actually DANCING to this song????
It's just all so sad.
When I was a teen and sporting my Metal up your A$$ shirt and old people would cross the street to get away from me....where did it all go so terribly wrong?
OH YEAH, THAT STINKIN' F***** BLACK ALBUM THAT'S FVCKING WHERE.

We're definitely on the same page on this, BrianMN.
What DID happen to Metallica?
Oddly enough, I had this craziest dream about Metallica few years back;
In my dream Metallica actually broke up after the Black album tour, having accomplished so much, earned their retirement money and being sick of the music biz. They simply said "that's it. So long!".
So, what their management thought was "well, we have a brand that sells like hell, so let's find 4 lookalikes and train them".
That's what they did from 1994-1996. And the first album of Metallica 2.0 was Load. They didn't look the same, they didn't sound the same, cos they were 4 different guys.
A bit spooky, actually. Could almost be true... ;)

Waters, Sambora and jon bon, Clapton, the Boss...all them boys were in fine form, honoring the quality of the written vocal, and eric and bruce each wielded better growls than fvcking HACKfield has come up with in a long fvckin time...hell, even haggy ol Mick would geld the braying fvcking Goat

That actually looks pretty well done. Hetfield, Trijullio, Hemmet and their bald headed friend looked pretty pumped to put on a show.
