Former Into Eternity Guitarist Rob Doherty Passes Away

Saskatchewan born Rob "Smiley" Doherty suddenly passed away, the cause of which is not yet announced. Doherty was a former guitarist with Canadian based band Into Eternity. He played on the band's LP "Buried In Oblivion," as well as guest starred on the band's latest singles "Fukushima" and "Sandstorm" providing death vocals. Doherty released his one man band project Final Darkness at the end of 2011.
Into Eternity's Tim Roth commented: "He was a special part of our band. Our condolences go out to all of Rob's family and friends, and to all those, who Rob's music touched."
Former Into Eternity vocalist Stu Block (Iced Earth) posted the following statement on his Facebook page: "It is a sad day RIP Rob Doherty. My good friend and former band mate from Into Eternity. Enter the gates with a strong soul and heart. I love u brother!!!!"

I heard Into Eternity back in high school around the time Dead or Dreaming came out and bought Buried In Oblivion the first day it came out. Great band, and I feel very fortunate to have caught them touring on that album in 2005 when they opened for Sonata Arctica. /m\
