Meshuggah Offering New Song "I Am Colossus" As Free Download

Meshuggah has teamed up with Scion A/V to give fans a stream and free download of the opening track "I Am Colossus" from the upcoming "Koloss" album, due out March 27th, 2012. The track can be downloaded here or through the player below.
Tomas Haake comments on the track, "'I Am Colossus’ is way more straightforward than the thrash metal we grew up with. At the same time, it does pose its own difficulties for us as players. It will probably be one of the first songs we attempt to play on tour. The solo - which is basically two long notes that are slow bends - just turned out beautiful. Such an understatement as a guitar solo. Sometimes a slow song is just as aggressive as a fast one."

Hmm...
Honestly, I'm not too excited about this new stuff so far.
I really liked "Break those bones..." but this one and "Do not look down" are not for me.
I did love the solo though. Another great reminder to us guitarists that few notes can be just as effective as 100 notes.
"Disappointed" is the word.
Listen to 'Break those bones..." 25% faster. A lot more animated and groovy, if you tend to lean more towards these aspects of Meshuggah.
'Behind the Sun' and 'The Demons Name is surveillance' will rock your socks off.
If you are as impatient as I am, most of the album can be streamed via youtube.
That being said, it is worth the wait.

I've heard just enough of it at this point to endure the wait. I think Meshuggah would have been better served launching album hype with a snappy song, followed by something experimental that takes time to appreciate/digest and then a couple weeks prior to release, drop something that qualifies as a single.
Personally,i look forward to purchasing the CD. Im not listenining to these relesed songs,it will take away from the pleasure of popping that newly bought CD into my Exploders deck. Seriously,im abit old school here, still like the shock of getting blown away by a new record, and the anticipation that comes with it!
Good to hear it, Overlord. I've listened to all three preview tracks but refuse to listen to anything else until release. I've grown to like "Sinews" more with each spin. "Colossus" to me anyway, is a better lurching behemoth and "Do Not Look Down" is middle-speed Meshuggah done right.
What I'm dying to hear is some high-speed Meshuggah (how many tracks find them going full-bore?) and their experimental endeavors... I'm hearing good things about the two closing tracks.
As much as I truly love Meshuggah, they never pull me in right away with new songs. For some reason every Meshuggah release takes time to fancy me, but it always does. Hell, at first listen I didnt dig Nothing, and its by far my favorite album of them. So this wont be an exception. Ill give it a few spins soon and see how it rolls with me then.
Ryanopuffs, I felt the same way when I first got into this band. I bought ObZen and it took me so long to get into it. Now I dig it a lot. From what I've heard I like this album better though.
R10, yea bro I get what you're sayin'. With certain releases I'll do that. I love buying physical copies of albums I like. I actually wanna get the new Cannibal Corpse on CD. Great album.
I sort of did that with Black Breath's new album Sentenced To Life (awesome record). I heard one song from them and then immediately found the album online, then I spun the whole thing and was blown away, and when that album drops they'll definitely be getting my money lol. Not exactly how you did it Mr.10 but whatever =P. I do believe you'll enjoy this new Meshuggah album. *puts on monocle*

Much better slow piece vs "Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave it Motion". "Do Not Look Down" remains the most promising track thus far but I'm sure the band are holding out rhw best for last.
