Woman Says She Learned Her Parents Wanted to Kill Her Through Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails Music

The latest in the saga of "metal made me do it" stories, this one is pretty far out there:
Christina Paz, 29, was arrested after starting a fire that seriously damaged her father's home in Cileo Vista in Texas last week and is now facing a felony charge of arson.
The El Paso Times claims that court documents show that Paz told investigators she wanted to burn down the house as revenge on her parents, who she believed were trying to kill her. On December 27 she allegedly poured flammable super glue on a bed in one room before lighting it, and then entered another room to set fire to the curtains.
The court papers report that Paz was angry at her parents "for trying to kill her on Christmas Day, that they had planned to sodomise her and chop her up with the help of a neighbour".
When asked how she knew her parents wanted to kill her, Paz replied that she had become aware "through the music of Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails."

There is a certain anxiety and paranoia in the music of both Reznor and Manson that resonates with people who seem to suffer said afflictions. Take someone who is already inherently unstable add NIN and MM, shake well and arson becomes a textbook if not reasonable outcome. This person would have gone on to do some kind of damage some other way with a different scapegoat if not these two.

On a third hand diagnosis:
either bipolar disorder or early symptoms for paranoid schizophrenia. I suspect bipolar disorder though (and we are not talking about on and off happy depressed mood swings) this is the whole kitten kaboodle here. Clearly this girl is not mentally healthy

Interesting semi-related fact: While under the supervision of USMC doctors, Nathan Gale admitted a belief that Marilyn Manson was responsible for 9/11. This, along with his emphatic claims that Pantera had somehow robbed him of his intellectual property, bolstered the paranoid schizo diagnosis that got him discharged.

Indeed. NIN is just about the best "alternative" band in history (if you forgive "With Teeth"). They're in my top five for that genre. And Manson has some choice albums to be sure. Present day alternative is probably lower than it has ever been but metal is still blessedly alive and well.
