Unearth Posts "Darkness In The Light" Album Artwork, Streaming New Song, "Eyes Of Black"
Unearth is currently readying to release "Darkness In The Light," the band's fifth full-length, in North America on July 5th via Metal Blade Records. The album was recorded at Zing Studios in Westfield, Massachusetts with producer (and Killswitch Engage guitarist) Adam Dutkiewicz and mixed at Audiohammer Studios in Sanford, Florida by Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, Trivium, et al). The cover artwork can be viewed below.
Commented Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps of the band's latest output: "Darkness In The Light is without a doubt some of the heaviest, most dynamic and memorable tunes we've ever written. The disc is littered with the shred 'n' stomp-filled songs our fans would expect from us, as well as some added vocal hooks, guitar melodies, guitar solos and some different paths taken in style and structure. We knew we had to continue to separate ourselves from the pack and to cement our place in the heavy metal world as one of the leaders and not as one of the many followers that seem to hop on the trend wagon and give up so easily when the going gets hard. We are here to stay and collectively we couldn't be any more fired up to play these songs around the world for our fans new and old."
The first single "Eyes Of Black" is currently streaming on the band's official album landing page, which includes updated tour info, pre-order options and more. To check it out the tune, point your browser to this location.
Said Phipps of the track: "We chose 'Eyes Of Black' to be the first song heard out of the gate as we feel it represents the 'UNEARTH sound' and style perfectly and it's simply a hard-hitting, catchy-as-hell song. The lyrics are also in line with many of the albums darker lyrical themes. I'm not speaking for all of the band, but this is my personal favorite on the album and I can't wait to get out there and play it live!"
The "Darkness In The Light" track listing is as follows:
1. Watch It Burn
2. Ruination Of The Lost
3. Shadows In The Light
4. Eyes Of Black
5. Last Wish
6. Arise The War Cry
7. Equinox
8. Coming Of The Dark
9. The Fallen
10. Overcome
11. Disillusion

I'm really diggin' this. Definitely worth checking out the rest. This stuff hits hard. I feel like his vocals are getting weaker. Maybe it's just me. They seems a lot heavier on The Oncoming Storm and then on The March they were a little weaker. I might just be hearing things wrong. Or he's trying different things. Either way I still like it a lot.

No, I agree with ZMA to some degree - the vocals are aggressive, but they are not so up front in the mix, screaming in your face. That's actually the thing that I was getting tired of the most about my favorite metalcore bands. I keep listening to digest the finer points and I still like it and want to go back to their older material to listen once again... Unearth has always had nice leads and solos that set them apart from the rest of the crowd.

I still don't know. You're probably right deathbringer, his vocals might be placed differently in the mix with maybe some different effects on it.
I just listened to This Lying World off of The Oncoming Storm before coming back and listeneing to this song and I just don't know. His vocals seem way more aggressive on the older stuff. Now I'm not saying they're not aggressive on this cause they are definitely awesome on this, just different some how I just can't put a solid finger on it.
I mean if you looked at in the standing of, it's been 6 years since The Oncoming Storm was released, it sort of makes sense at least to me it does. His vocal style might have changed over those years from doing it so much. It could be that or like death said it could be just the mix. I love this band either way and I'm definitely dropping some cash on this cd.

ZMA, i agree with you 100%. I am a vocalist/musician and i know a lot of metalcore singers have been taking a lot of the rasp out of they're screams or moving more in an aggressive shout direction so the lyrics can be heard more clearly. Trevor started this with The March and Tim Lambesis has done the same thing lately, listen to "Give Me Your Boots" from Austrian DM for a perfect example or a few songs on the new AILD album and you'll see what i mean. It's one of the more subtle parts of metalcores evolution the past few years.

Yea R10 I'm probably gonna get this cd on the release date. I agree with you it's definitely Trevor haha. I really do like his vocal style reguardless of how it is. I haven't seen 'em live yet but I've heard live tracks that are great, they're really tight. They should be tight though considering they've been playin' since 98. I actually think I'm goin' to Mayhem now R10. Gonna get cheap lawn seats. I usually always try and get real seats but this time around I don't even care I just wanna see this years lineup.
TheMidnightCowboy, why would they go for that direction? I mean I can understand other metalcore singers doing it but I can understand Trevor pretty damn good weather he's shouting or doing heavier stuff. He doesn't need to change things up. But it's a good change in pace honestly and it keeps the band fresh so I can't be mad especially after listening to this new song. But yea I know what you're talkin' about with Austrian Death Machine, I have both albums.
I personally like a heavier vocal style. Travis Richter from The Human Abstract is basicaly exactly what I love in a vocalist.

Hit me up dude, you and your girl got one of them 24 oz tall boys on me. Good times!

I'm not sure who's gonna do touring duties for them. Foley might come along for their tour but I don't know if KSE is touring so maybe not. I love Blood Has Been Shed. That band is crazy. I wish they'd come out with a new album but that's probably never gonna happen.
Haha R10 those dust clouds at Ozzfest were insane bro. Drowning Pools pit was huge. I think hatebreed at 07 Ozzfest was a little bigger.
Seriously good times man. Don't drink though. 24 oz Monster would be pretty badass. Besides I'd much rather smoke. But price of a 24 oz beer and and a 24 oz bag would be greatly different in price.
I hope Unearth kills it like you and others say they do. Them and Straight Line Stitch. I have high expectations for Mayhem this year.

haha nice to read you guys again as well!! I've been busy between dental surgeries for a broken wisdom tooth and 2 root canals. Good news is in the mean time I've been building a studio in my house and recently graduated with my bachelors in Audio Production, and its time to record my solo album! I also recently joined a reformed Scimitar(NJ, check them out on myspace or The Metal Archives) as lead vocalist/guitarist, but we're probably going to go under a new name, because Scimitar was always a 3 piece and we are now a 4 piece, and a new band from British Columbia recently came out with the same name. As for Unearth's vocals, Trevor may just want more of his own voice in the music instead of a complete false chord, but he sounds good no matter what. I personally love singers that do that with death growls, keeping a little bit of their own voice instead a full false chord, like Nergal from Behemoth or Peter Wiwczarek from Vader. Always sounds way more evil. It ends up sounding more like a shout with metalcore vocals though.

Damn that sounds like a lot of stuff went on. Glad to hear about the studio and the degree. Gonna check your band out.
But yea I do agree with you about Trevors vocals. That way you definitely know it's Unearth when you hear him sing. But like I've said, for me, I like a heavier vocal. Something like Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse. Or Peter Tägtgren of Hypocrisy. I like all types of vocal styles and I love Trevs vox or else I wouldn't like this band. I'm just sayin' that's my favorite style vox.

I am liking the new track. Still curious how much they can wow me with the whole album, seeing how I'm a bit over the metalcore lately.
