The Autumn Offering Goes on Hiatus, Offers Explanation
Matt McChesney, vocalist of The Autumn Offering, has posted the following statement online through Myspace explaining the band's decision to go on hiatus.
"Now that the dust has settled a bit, here’s the story: We could no longer function as a band on Victory Records. They are criminals of the worst kind, and care nothing about the artists on their roster. Not going to get into a bunch of boring shit about record labels and money, but anyone with half a brain can see what was going on here. We were never dropped or anything like that, and as far as I can see they still have us listed on their artist roster. Whatever. Maybe one day when heavy music gets cool again, we’ll make some more records…but in this current climate of 'djent' shit and deathcore, no thanks.
"Most of those bands sound like furniture being moved around in an empty room. In the meantime, Jesse [Nunn, Autumn Offering guitarist] and myself have completed 14 songs with producer Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, Divine Heresy, Cavelera Conspiracy) in Hollywood over the past 3 months. Its great stuff…kind of like Alice in Chains meets Faith No More, with a little bit of metal thrown in. We don’t have a name yet…just focusing on finishing the album first…I’ll keep you posted!!"

so true cynic =\
and i wouldn't say that ::clears throat:: "djent" sh** is "in" or popular. it's just the thing now for ppl that just want some different, especially heavy, unique (depends on the band of course, but just like every other style out there), and, of course, the main why most ppl get into those bands, groovy. i, personally, both love and hate djent, cuz i do love it for the bass-heavy grooves and how idk in what direction to bang my head when i wanna headbang to it, but there's just an ocean of meshuggah- and other rlly good djent bands-drones that taint the style when there's alotta good ones. tesseract is one of the most genius bands i've heard in a while and band similar to them but far more groovy and heavy is, vildhjarta, whom are like the savior of djent. don't believe me, listen to them. oh, and just for the record, i don't like periphery. they're the linkin park of djent imo.

So first the band makes great metalcore, gets a new vocalist who turns them into a 3rd tier A7X ripoff, then they make a half-deathcore cd almost 2 years after the genres peak and they blame other bands for noone caring about them? Maybe if you didn't try to make pop-metal people like me would still care about you.
And isn't most djent just independent artists anyway?

^^^ yeah. but some have alrdy kicked off, especially if they're melodic (periphery), or instrumental side projects of other alrdy known musicians (animals as leaders)
if u or anyone for that matter, even cares to check any out, i would strongly suggest the 2 i mentioned, tesseract and vildhjarta, of course there's plenty of others that just sound exactly like meshuggah but either metalcore version or deathcore, which is just terrible. there's even some that mix electronic style of music, and it's rlly weird imo. just go to got-djent.com and check some out. like u post #4 said, it's usually independent artists so alotta sh**'s free dwnlds so what do u got to loose? try some out.

Post 4 was exactly what i was thinking lol.
i personaly hate all these labels metal has now. Ill prolly get flamed for this but what happened to anything that made you wanna bang your head and had an awesome riff wasnt metal? if i like it i listen to it. There is some "Djent" bands that i find are really awesome, Elitist stands out for me, so does Volumes and from what i hear The Contortionist is considered djent. Im not a big Periphery fan but thats cuz i dont like the clean vocals. the music is awesome though.

Metal is the single most liberating music on the planet. Where bashing your head and screaming releases pent up sh** that must be. To deprive the world of that metal, ESPECIALLY GOOD f***ING METAL, is the crime. Metal is metal... good or bad it's not f***ing country or rap or pop... It just is... I just hate to see a good metal band go.

Djent is not a new genre of music it was only used to describe certain tones that were played. Once it was out though all bands that had this style in there music were clumped into the word djent and thus we have a genre that is not a genre. It's a pity when bands try to do something different they are clumped into some fad or genre for taking a different approach to music. Music has always been progressing since it has originated.
