Lol yeah indeed that is such a bad choice
i mean he's good but not nearly the best...
so many drummers are so much better the other ones listed are some of them (except ulrich) but there are so many better ones out there that people like these don't seem to care or know about

Far be it for me to say who is or isn't good. it is just some dipsh**'s opinion of what's "tasteful" in this matter just because joeys in the mainstream, he deserves a reward. Asheim, christy, hogland, inferno just to name a few who are just as if not more so. Once again it never fails to amaze me the opinion of the mainstream voice. Congrats to joey... I guess

Portnoy is good, but IMO Kollias from Nile is just plain better...he and Danny Carey IMO are the best in the world. Carey is one of the very few who can hold 4 beats/rythms simultaneously (polyrythms). Kollias is already clocked as the fastest in the world at something crazy like 260 beats per minute...Carey isn't quite as fast but his drumming is extremely technical and is always changing because he loves to experiment with other techniques.

I do see why everybody is surprised, I mean Lombardo, Adler, Roddy, and Portnoy I do think have more skill as drummers. I guess what they're saying is, it's not about how fast you can double bass, or how many hundreds of different, original beats you can throw down, or how many solos you can bust out at any second...oh wait...
lol I don't understand why Ulrich would be in this discussion, I literally have a Metallica discography that I've been downloading for I think about 2 years now on hold just to piss him off.

I would've voted Tomas Haake myself. He's a God at double bass. But I can see how Joey got this award. I mean he's constantly in the news about different bands he is working with or playing for. Joey is constantly going and going. Like that goddamn energizer bunny!

You're forgetting that these things are voted on by fans who doesn't know the first thing about drumming. The fact that Lars Ulrich pops up in every one of these things is proof of that. I saw Metallica live for the first time earlier this year, and the drumming was a major weak point. I mean, name me one other serious metal drummer that would f*** up the double bass at the end of One? If you can find one, I'd definitely start avoiding whatever bands he plays in.

RYSIS, agreed mate...
I d love to see a drum off with some of these guys...joey doesnt get the recognition from diehard metal fans, because knots not really metal, maybe nu metal at the very least but they sound like a hard rock band...if joey was in a nile, a cannibal corpse, maybe a dethklok or some band like that then his critics would see his talent more...the award isnt surprising to me at all. Congrats joe \m/

honestly i think you guys need to realize that these guys putting in the votes know NOTHING about metal. look at the other categories?! so be happy some good guys are getting SOME recognition: Chris Adler and Derek Roddy are definitely surprises to be mixed in with how mainstream the other guys are.

tho i'm happy for neil peart for best drummer (of course, drumming god) and mike portnoy for best prog, but i think danny carey (the drumming prodigy) shouldda been for best prog, and travis barker for punk AND pop is fvckin' hilarious. sucha overrated drummer. pretty good but NOT THAT good. JJ's good for best metal, BUT NOT THE BEST IMO, it shouldda been between chris adler (obvious choice) or bran dailor (mastodon) easily.

Whoever said it's nothing but a popularity contest is correct. I wouldn't even consider Ulrich a metal drummer anymore. Live he's either old or lazy and since Lombardo is about the same age and still kicking a$$ I'll go with lazy. There are so many death-style drummers with so much more talent, and many have been named here.
And one more thing: it's called DOUBLE KICK DRUM, not double bass. The bass drum is upright and hit with the sticks. How did these two get confused?

in my opinion I think joey REALLY deserved the award, i mean what other drummer can drum upside down while strapped and is being pulled by gravity and still plays such an awesome drum solo. I mean yes there maybe some drummers here that may be better but Joey's live performances tops them all.

The best drummer in the world is obviously the most richest! THE WINNER GOES to.......
LARS ULRICH! The people have spoken. Can you guys play his drum beats off of and justice? More importantly, can you replicate his extraordinary raw prowess in St. Anger. I SAY NO SIR!
55. writes:
i think you mean: can the turd danish play the justice tracks??
mmmm, no
and: is the turd danish guilty of executing what is the fvcking atrocity that is the 'drumming' on st. chunder??
why yes he is
that little faggit has no fvcking business showing his moony face anywhere near a METAL fvcking drum kit....been that way SINCE justice (which he can't fvcking play)
name says it all....Turd Danish

It really sounds like they went by which drummers are the biggest names because most of those drummers on that list are just the ones that most people know. Jordison is a pretty good drummer and anyone who would deny that is just blinded by their hate of Slipknot, but he is certainly not the best in my opinion.
