Sum 41 Covers Metallica Live, Posts Videos Online

Band Photo: Metallica (?)
Pop punk band Sum 41, who has been known to play some Metallica in the past as well as some heavier original material, recently played a number of classic Metallica songs (and cover) live and posted up four new videos of them, including "Master Of Puppets," "For Whom The Bell Tolls," "Stone Cold Crazy," and a medley of other Metallica songs. Unlike some other bands covering metal classics, they've actually done an admirable job. Check out the first video below, with more after the jump.

True enough. Pop culture will ruin you..everywhere you go you see Metallica, Ramones, and Sex Pistol T-Shirts worn by people who just bought them at some store to look cool and never went to any of the shows.
They can't tell you anything about any of the bands short of songs like Enter Sandman or God Save the Queen.

I guess I don't too much of a problem with bands covering Metallica if they're a true influence on the band... but jeeez.... Sum41? What went on in their head that made them think this was a good idea? Unless this show actually was promoted to be a Metallica cover show er whatever... I'm sure a lot of the fans there were disappointed, honestly. If I were a Sum41 fan it might be cool for them to do 1 'Tallica song.. but a whole bunch like that? I'd want to hear Sum41 songs.. not Metallica songs. Damn... haha....

MetalFodder dont forget the dead kenndys t shirt or the pantera t shirt or the iron madien t shirt or the the dreaded misfits t shirt. Really any shirt that was bought at hot topic. I say there only 2 real way to get metal shirts Get them handed to you from some one who had them for years or buy one If you see them live and a third decnt option get them online. As for Sum 41 the covers where well done.

Hmm, buy a shirt from Hot Topic or pay $25 or $30+ for a shirt at a concert because it makes me "cool?" Sorry, I'll take Hot Topic. I've bought plenty of shirts at shows, but to paint it black and white and ignore the reality of the ridiculous situation going on with band merch is weaker than the Hot Topic kids.

Seriously? Why the hell not. Who HASN'T covered Metallica? There are whole albums of: industrial, bluegrass, cellos, harps, "string tribute," baby lullabyes, and many more cover albums I'm sure, not to mention the many "various artists" Metallica cover albums.
I thought Sum 41 did a good job here, but I'm obviously in the minority. But comments like this make me wonder how much of it is knee-jerk reactions anyway.

I grew into Metal from bands like Sum 41, and they still get the odd listen from me
Their 2nd album was good for the genre, 3rd is just a damn good album and the 4th was halfway decent Metal
Think his voice is just not right for the Metallica vox, but overall, pretty good job.

DB, totally agree with you on the t-shirt take...only time i d pay alot for a T if its one of those mega/kick azz tours that had the dates on the back and you wanted to show everyone that "ya i was there" kind, then i d shell out out 30-40 bucks, other than that ya you can find some nice gems at those kinds of stores for 10-15 bucks...alot of times they are better looking than the tour shirts....
I hate covers, so i cant comment on the sum41 take subjectivly
