Steven Tyler Parts With Aerosmith According to Joe Perry
The Las Vegas Sun is reporting that Steven Tyler has quit hard rock act Aerosmith after their recent performance in Abu Dhabi. Excerpts from the article follow:
“Steven quit as far as I can tell,” Guitarist Joe Perry said from his Boston home. “I don’t know anymore than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know.”
Part of the problem, he says, is that Tyler doesn’t return his phone calls. “He’s notorious for that,” Perry said. “That’s one thing I’ve learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I’ve been wanting not to rock the boat. I don’t want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn’t want to call him out or anything and get him anymore pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That’s how I know about it.”
Most of Aerosmith’s recent world tour was canceled in August after Tyler fell from the stage at a Sturgis, S.D., concert and broke his shoulder. The band members were unhappy with Tyler over the incident. However, Aerosmith salvaged the final leg of the tour, including two shows in Hawaii and one Sunday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix before more than 50,000 fans.
UPDATE: Tyler has since refuted the claim that he has left the band.

He falls off the stage cause he cant dance anymore, injures himself, fahqs up the whole tour and the has the nerve to quit the group?....thats just great, way to go steve, sounds like you might have rigged this whole thing up so that you could put your solo crap out...or was it an attempt to try out for velvet revolver? Regardless its a little distastefull to me

whaaaaaat????.....
I learned to walk with Aerosmith playing in the background..."Walk This Way" among others no less...I wish I were kidding.
This is like gravity ceasing or the earth not rotating. They should just disband--another vocalist would be an outrage...This isn't Alice in Chains or AC-DC (who managed the almost impossible with Johnson)...
R.I.P. Aerosmith short of a resolution with Tyler...bummer.

#8, you actually want Sammy Hagar to sing for Aerosmith. He sucked in one legendary band and he'll suck in this one if he gets the job. Aerosmith should just quit all together. Nothing against them but they're old as sh** and you just don't replace Steven Tyler, it's like someone other than Mick Jagger singin' for the Stones.
STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!

i really don't know what the big deal is, The Rolling Stones are the world's greatest rock n roll band in the world, not just the United States, lol. Steven Tyler has always played second fiddle to the Jaggeristic movements and Joe Perry has always played thirty second fiddle to Keith Richards. They were good in the beginning but sold out to Armageddon. Go away!

this is a bullsh** story he didnt quit at all it was assumption by joe perry based upon stevens recent actions all tyler stated that he wanted to focus on himself for awhile..everyone needs to step back and realize joe stepped out to do his solo effort and so steven folowed suit now joe is done and steven is not and so the drama commences...someone around here needs to get there facts straight this is not confirmed and therefore just tabloid rumors .

Their best days have been behind them since the early 80's. Of course I haven't seen them live so that may be a different story. Still, if they only play their hits from the last couple of decades I wouldn't be all that interested. I can't imagine how they play live without a horn chorus since most of those songs seem to be all horn and no decernable guitar.

I was pretty happy with all the 70's records and select cuts from the 80's and early 90's.
I agree with the consensus that their best years are far behind them, but it still sucks to watch them depart/transform into some unspeakable Cthulu "to see/hear it, is to go insane" mutation.
