Opeth front man Mikael Akerfeldt has issued the following warning about fake Facebook profiles:

"Just a quick note to say that it has (again) come to my attention that some asshole(s) has set up facebook pages pretending to be me. I don't have a facebook page and every 'Mikael Akerfeldt' page up there is either a idiot impostor or a simple fan page and they have nothing to do with me, and I don't endorse any of them.

"Do not post to these pages as it's simply a parasite kid running it trying to get some attention. I will bring these people down (to Chinatown) as soon as possible.

"Cheers"

Personally I far prefer Facebook to MySpace as its basically MySpace for grown ups, although the constant news apps and "...is a fan of not being shot in the face" groups are really dragging it down. I truly enjoy being able to see someone's page without having to be subjected to whatever terrible music they listen to because they have it set to auto play, and I also enjoy not having to see all the completely stupid animated gifs and bumper stickers that everyone thinks make them look cool but just makes me not want to know them at all. Hey guys, look at me, I've got a sparkly picture that says "white trash," I'm so awesome!

I admit I goof off, but that's because my buddy Jon has all of these dumb fan pages he joins and they all show up on my sidebar, so I end up seeing them and joining them as a result. I agree with youXFiruath, I prefer it to myspace as it is more grown up. I will admit that I detest those that update their status every 20 minutes. I have yet to update anything more than is, after I accidentaly set it that way with my blackberry.

I'll be honest that I am the type of person that you would stereotype to be on facebook as most of the people that find out I listen to metal are surprised and or horrified in disbelief.

So in this instance, I fit the stereotype.

I reluctantly signed up for myspace over facebook via coinflip not a year or so ago. I rarely use it. Despite the overall retardation of both, I will say that myspace/facebook provide a great outlet for checking out music/bands for free.
