Talk show performances and metal bands just dont mix. the instrumentation may be fine, but the vocalist always seem a bit subdued, or nervous or something, and end up messing up somehow, either soundwise or just performancewise. The whole bands performance overall tends to suffer too. It's got to have something to do with either the way their stage is arranged or just intimidation in front of an audience that isnt exactly made up of fans.
Although, except for the one guy, I actually thought they did a superb job translating the vocals over live. the drummer's voice sounded exactky 1000 percent the same as he did on the record, at least in my opinion.

Damnit FAN, you have bet me to everything I wanted to say... no wait that's good. Overall the vocal performances were noticeably a bit of a mess - except for Brann Dailor - who would have known he has the best voice out of all of them!? His vocal line is the best on the album, makes the whole song.

The instruments sounded great.
The drummer should sing everything, his voice is perfect live.
The bass player however............ hair raisingly bad!!!
It reminds me of when Metallica played One at the grammys.
Horrid, nervous vocals from Hetfield.
Same case here with Mastadon, I feel bad for him but I hope no one who watched this won't buy the album, it rules!!!

Folks...they are playing fairly difficult music live. Perfect vocals are difficult to achieve when you are also concentrating on intricate bass/guitar lines. You musicians out there should be able to confirm this. I thought they did a great job. Troy Sanders is a very good bassist and vocalist. I'm just disappointed that Paul Schaeffer didn't sit in with the band. LOL

Jamez: I doubt it was their choice. It's likely you get what you get when you play those things. Honestly, a one off number doesn't warrant going to the Dr. to get the ear mold casted. I'm sure they'll have what they need when they tour and all will be forgiven.

Why in the f*** would Mastodon want to play on Letterman? It must have been terrible for the band- crappy sound and it must have sucked playing to a room full of idiots who probably listen to Kanye West and Jaime Foxx. As far as Letterman, that fossil should have retired a long time ago.
Who not Conan, or Jimmy Kimmel?

I stand up 'cause I was curious to see & hear how they sound: 1st time seeing them/MASTODON on TV howbeit I seened them quite alot in major magazines/Worldwide. I thought their live performance was incrediable & intense and blew me away when the drummer shared in the lead vocals..'that's heavy (I bet difficult) drumming & singing at the same time. That big dude the one w/the tattoo on his face, I see why Host David Letterman said he was frighten...'I would be too: awesome band/great show & glad I stayed up to watch.

I thought the musicianship was great but not perfect. The vocals were obviously lacking but its a talkshow what can you really expect from a band where the vocals obviously wasnt too high up in the priorty list to begin with. Brann's voice was the only one whos voice wasnt considerably lacking while Troy and Brent were almost aweful. I thought it was kinda cool how Brann was able to do his vocal lines and yet still be able to pull off his drumming, granted his harder stuff occured while he wasn't singing but still he pulled off his end quite nicely in the end.
Now Playing: DJ Tiesto- To Forever

I thought the vocals were pretty solid.
In most actual metal shows I find you can't actually hear the vocals that clearly. That's just the way of it, the intensity of the sound just drowns them out to a degree. With TV shows like this they focus on making things clear rather than loud. So I think it's more that the vocals are often not quite what they are on a studio-produced, polished album, it's just that on these sort of shows you can hear it a lot more clearly.

I thought they sounded pretty solid here, When i saw them at mayhem last year i thought their equipment sounded a little off.. I am completely blown away by how good the drummer sounds
Sorry about starting a side argument but i feel it is necessary
GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are winning game 7 tomarrow and taking the cup
Crosby is a puss that punches people in the balls from behind... and Zetterberg owns him

I gotta say it again letterman is a fahqn d***......no talent whinney sh!t bag..hes still b****in about not gettin the tonite show
^GS...come on dude...you sound like a whinney flyers fan than a wings fan...how you can hate syd aka talent is silly...
You hate guys like donald brashear, sean avery, or the entire flyer team, those guys start crap cause they dont have the skill to hang with someone like syd or malkin, so they start fights and try to suck them into a brawl, cause they know they cant beat em toe to toe skill wise...i got respect for henrick though and the wings,...although i hate franzen,...been a great series....pens 3-2 in a shocker...
LETS GO PENS ......fyi games fri 8p est

I agree about hating guys like Brashear and Avery, they are the douche bags of hockey, and alot of the flyers, lol... And im not saying Crosby isnt talented but i just dont like the guy, largely in part of how he is made to be the face of the NHL, and I lost all respect for him after i saw him cheapshot Brett Mclean at a face off... I think if the Pens do win tomarrow that Scideri (im not sure how to spell his name) should get mvp because of what he did in game 6 to keep them alive... BUT the wings are going to win the cup at the Joe, should be a good game

Guutersniper- What a series, huh? When the Wings went up 2-0 I said, "Goodbye Penguins!" but they have bounced back to make it one hell of a series! Did you see #4 for Pitt make those three stops with 15 seconds to go and the end of Game 6? Man, they guy was incredible!
I think the Wings were sweating harder for Game 7 against my Ducks, but either way it will be a great game tomorrow night!

Yeah, its been a great series.. Home ice has been huge for both teams
About Ovechkin, i have very mixed opinions on him.. The whole showing up to a penguins practice was a little weird, lol. The guy is crazy good tho
This has been an awesome playoffs overall, The Canes-Devils, Rangers-Caps, Canes-Bruins, Pens-Caps, Wings-Ducks and now this series have all gone to 7 games

38. writes:
^ ya i agree with that.... hes an unbelievable player but he goes after syd intentionally every game they play each other to show him up verbally and physically, and ya that spying scam was as we now know was a sign of panic on his part...i try not to hate players or people when their talented, just when they say or do something stupid....of coarse it always doesnt work that way

I always marvel at drummers who can manage vocals, even brief backing vocals. Brann goes all out. I can barely chime in while on bass, my mind doesn't know how to mange the workload if its drums (which I'm terrible at anyway) or a complicated rhythm on any instrument.
While largely a sub-par vocal performance I think they did great.
Now Playing: 'Neath - "Paintings"

Remembermetal, I didnt even realize it was Brann doing the vocals until I saw this clip!! I thought "well, Troy's voice sure sounds bright!" Brann's amazing. Just amazing, especially having seen the "Making of Blood Mountain" where he's playing drum bits on his own.
