Lars Ulrich Speaks About Downloading New Album "Death Magnetic"

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich has revealed that he illegally downloaded Death Magnetic after it leaked ahead of the official release date last year.
Speaking to US DJ Eddie Trunk on VH1’s That Metal Show, Ulrich said “I sat there myself and downloaded 'Death Magnetic' from the Internet just to try it."
"I was like, 'Wow, this is how it works.' I figured if there is anybody that has a right to download 'Death Magnetic' for free, it's me. I sat there one night at my house with about six of my friends and a bottle of wine. We found it - this was like two or three days after Death Magnetic leaked. I was like, 'You know what? I've gotta try this.' So we sat there, and thirty minutes later, I had 'Death Magnetic' in my computer. It was kind of bizarre."

As for downloading, Lars you hypocritical tool. can the people at napster now counter sue you or something? can you get done by your own label..
Viva la Napster

"30 minutes later"?...Lars was either on a lame p2p or has 56k, lol.
Apparently theres a less compressed version of Death Magnetic out there courtesy of one of the Rockband/Guitar Hero games. I wonder if the iTunes version sounds better than the cd version...

I actually wrote an article about this the other day with a title that read "Warner Brothers Records Inc. File Lawsuit Against Lars Ulrich For Admitting To Illegally Downloading Death Magnetic". A few people thought I was serious until they read the entire post.
James probably would have downloaded it but his wife probably doesn't let him on the internet. Kirk would have downloaded it but his computer doesn't have a Wah pedal so he's not quite sure how to use it.

Lars loves his own money so much, he refuses to even pay himself for his own work...
If I ever got a band going enough to the point that I released a cd in stores, I would walk into the nearest store that carried it, and openit up and walk out the store an past the blaring censors with it, just to make the cops laugh their asses off once they realize what they just arrested me for...
I've downloaded and deleted the song Day that never comes like 27 times already, just out of spite. I WOULD download the entire album, but I refuse to have the song Unforgiven 3 in my possesion for a single moment. I'm not contaminating my music collection with that song, no matter how much I may want to point and laugh at metallica by stealing their music.

It's not often that a man laughs out loud from reading something on the computer. Even rarer is the moment that he finds himself laughing about it 15 minutes later. even rarer when that man is a super-critical a$$hole(me) who tells so many jokes in the course of a day that nothing short of the hilarity-level of "chimp vs a midget-in-a-tutu" cage fight will make him laugh.
you win sir (or madam {f***in internet anonymity})

Is the chimp a child or fully grown? A fully grown chimp vs a midget-in-a-tutu mightn't be very funny...gorey, yes...funny, meh. Let's say the chimp is dressed in a tutu as well, and they perform Swan Lake. And if, you wish the chimp can maime the midget afterwards. That is hilarity my friend.

this is pretty sad to me with all the ranting and raving Lars has done over the years. I supported metallica thru the black album, but after that they SUCKED. these guys need to realize if not for all of us fans they would not be were they are in the first place. and i have not downloaded the new album because it blows a$$ and i dont wanna waste space on my computer.

Re: suing him - That actually has happened, but to another drummer. Sean Moore of Manic Street Preachers did essentially what Lars did, and downloaded his own band's CD Know Your Enemy just to see how it all worked and what the compressed audio format sounded like, and promptly had his account shut down by his ISP. :-) This was quite a while ago though.

Allied front- you do know my avatar is just a joke right? I was probably one of the bigger Obama supporters on this site during the election, getting into arguments daily against mccain supporters.
even with some of his detractions and the whole "tax scandal" with his nominations he's put up, I still am.
And yes, I enjoy your avatar quite abit. :)
DeathinEye: I thought chimp/midget fights were always preceded by performances of either Swan lake or macbeth anyway? I assumed that would be the case as always? lol
oh, and the rules are always, if the chimp is fullgrown, the midget gets a football helmet, a butterknife, and moon boots. Otherwise, infant chimp versus buff midget professional cage fighter is the norm.

post 32 its to late for him he has been pullled to the dark side
well i m a die hard fan of them and even seen cliff back in the days
but i hate it when bands become sucked in the money machine and forget lots of thing like ther fans
but hey maybe i would do the same if i had lots of money cause that what it all about on the end
but the forget were they came from in the first place music
and yes do think it is funny that he down loads first he b****es about it try to stop napster
and now he is doing it him self
but besides that i still like there music

If any of you thought for just a second about what Lars was trying to say what was it now... 8 yrs ago about illegaly downloading music. You would realize that he owns the copyright so yes he does have the right to own any copy or reproduce any copy of the material that he wanted, I',m really sick of people coming on these boards to blow whatever they feel in someone's life is more relevant than their own out of the water, get a life.
And remember, just because you chose to listen and like them in the 80's or 90's doesn't mean they have to listen to what you want, listen to something else if you don't like what their doing now.
