Megadeth Prepares To Record New Album

Apparantly Megadeth hasn't begun recording their new album yet, as proven by band leader Dave Mustaine in the following post:

"Droogies and Rattleheads!

"I am sending you this post from Maui, Hawaii, where I currently am, to get one last vacation in before I start my next record.

"We also are going to be announcing some really major news this week coming up, it could be about my book, it could be about a tour coming up; it could be about a whole lotta stuff!

"For now, I just wanted to tell you that I hoped to be able to answer some more questions on Megadeth's widget, and to leave messages for you with TheLiveLine, and to make regular posts like I have been doing here and at our other sites. But in order to give 100% of myself, I need to have 100% of myself back to give out. Onward with the updates.

"The studio is turning out to be such a magical place and we are getting so much done in such a seemingly easy and effortless few months preparing the studio. Jeff Payne, Shane McConnell, Brandon Webster and a cast of great friends and skilled personnel, including all four band members, that have made this more exciting with each and every passing day. I have gone through all of the micro-cassettes that I have saved, and James Lomenzo has uploaded them into our Pro-Tools rig for evaluation.

"I have another shot at breaking the Billboard Top 200 Chart and I am still scratching and 'a clawing to get the elusive number 1. Megadeth has had a number 2, number 4, number 8 and a number 10. We are missing the obvious integer of 6 in the 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 pattern in the top ten. Seriously though, it has been an honor to have made so many high debuts in this career of mine, and I am still eyeing that top spot, so let's see what comes out of this next session.

"I am going to be continuing on with my Dean VMNT's as my guitar of choice, and I will be using my Signature GHS Dave Mustaine Progressives 10-52 gauge strings, and my signature Dave Mustaine Live Wires by Seymour Duncan. I am proudly using Marshall Amplifiers and Cabinets, and boy do we have a surprise for you, but I will leave that up to the noble Marshall family to say.

"I also am very anxious to get my fingers deep into Pro Tools new Software 'Eleven.'

"We have chosen to work with Mr. Andy Sneap again, and he is coming and going all day, every day leading up to this, and I for one am pumped to see what we are going to do fresh out of the gate this time. He has not only made his presence felt with great suggestions about the music on the last record, but he has been over to make sure that the studio was coming along, and to check on the colors and furniture so that we will have a comfortable environment here; and since I intend on making this a studio open to select clientele, I want to make sure that this is the kind of place that a hot-shot like Andy will feel perfectly at home in.

"Thank you to Shawn Drover for coming out and doing all of the building things that you did. Jeff painted yesterday and it looks great. Since you get the live room out in the warehouse, it is prolly time to have our personal assistant Adrian Biondo from touring with Megadeth to come and make the dressing room vibe in the studio. She could make an outhouse look like a dressing room, and in fact she did on the last tour.

"We are nearing the first day of recording and the remaining work is to mount the acoustic hardware, rack mount all of the Pro Tools item and outboard gear in the control room, as well as wire all of that, and just keep making the best record I have ever made from the leasing of the building the very first day, until the last second when I lock the door and fly to England to mix this record with Andy at this studio in Derbyshire again.

"It is nearly 6pm Hawaii time and I am getting ready to go to Bubba Gump's for dinner. I love that goofy joint, it's better than the burnt-out dive across the street.

"And yes, I did actually go to the Maui Coffee Plantation to check out some potential coffee for my coffee line, but it wasn't that much to my liking and if it is going to be the "coffee that I actually drink" then this would prolly not have been included. It was a little bit "not to my liking" and I prefer the Peruvian coffee that I have now, as well as the "Kona" and "Jamaica Blue Mountain", which we are going to be discussing introducing to our coffee customers after the Holidays are over. I just have to make sure that you know it is not "blend" where they put three Kona beans in with all of the Arabica beans and call it "Jamaica Blue Mountain Blend" or the same with the "Kona Blend."

"And now, it is time for some sun!

Mahalo and Aloha,
Dave Mustaine"

That's pretty lame, I bet Slayer don't write records in search of a No 1 album. I think since Countdown To Extinction Dave's been focused on writing more commercial sonhs, thrash metal is a star in the past. But as I've said a few times, I'm hoping for some more great tracks like "Gears Of War".

Do you mean Thrash Metal in general is a star in the past, or just to Dave Mustaine Cynic?

Just to Mustaine, he's more middle of the road metal now. Actually I take that back in part anyway because United Abominations was quite thrashy in a lot of places, just more commercial thrash like CTE, very chorus oriented. Of course, that's not so bad if the songs are still good, which a few on his latest releases have been. Sleepwalker, Gears of War, Washington Is Next etc.

Now Playing: Nile - "Sacrifice Unto Sebek"

Lol that's what I'd disagree MOST with, Dave writes some great songs but theirs just way too much filler on the albums he releases, too much dodgy structuring in songs and such.

Well I dunno but I've always liked Megadeth, and the music is still decent and that's that to me. I'm sure the album will come out great.

Cynic: what exactly do you mean by 'too much dodgy structuring in songs'?

Well take a track like "Burnt Ice" from United Abominations, it's like a great track waiting to happen, just meandering all over the place not quite knowing where to put things, pissing about waiting for Mustaine to play a rocky chorus. Sure you can do fragmented songs well (Holy Wars... The Punishment Due), but the arrangements weren't great on United Abominations.

Funny, I thought the final part of "Burnt Ice" was the most thrash metal section on United Abominations.

I wasn't saying it wasn't thrash, it just seems like a jumble of riffs and solos compared to Hangar 18. The first half is all over the place and pretty mid tempo. Ending is great - which goes back to my original point about filler and dodgy structures!

I see your point, I would like to see Megadeth write a modern day "Black Friday".I thought that Dave could stand to increase the tempos on some of the tracks on UA( "Blessed are the dead "and "You're dead" come to mind) At least the guitar soloing on the album was oldschool.
This is off topic but I would recommend that everyone check out Shawn and Glen Drover's band Eidolon. I have thier album Coma Nation and it fantastic. Maybe a little dry but most of the tracks are killer. Sad that Glen is gone now.

I was'nt too happy with Drovers guitar leads at all. I did'nt even like the sound. Was'nt hard enough. Mustaine to me is a metal god. I can't wait for the new album. I can't find any band that even sounds like them except Metallica (New album is'nt bad...finally). I still listen to early megadeth. In my opinion, the best metal band ever.

Mustaine will never write a song as thrashy as 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' hahah! Sorry guys if you're a fan, I'm just having a laugh. Megadeth never did much for me. I understand why people would like a lot of his stuff, though. Most of it is decent music - in fact, I'm not even sure why I can't take to it hahah.

But seriously, 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia' is one rad song!

his vacation must be so exciting for him if he had that much time to type up that much detail about nothing. /sarcasm posting a novel on his forums while hes in hawaii. wtf dude. get a life. guess there is nothing better to do when ur in hawaii but sit at ur computer and write to people that you dont know and only pretend to care about when an album is coming out or a tour is going on.

his albums havent been nearing the number one position over the years and have been declining. hes just sitting there reading all the sh** about metallica being number one all over the f***in place and is so envious hes actually got himself fooled into thinking he has a shot at getting there at this pathetic stage of his old a$$ career. its over man. aint gonna happen. hes way to vacant and souless to produce something like he did 15 to 20 years ago. go thump a bible and drink some of ur personal coffee blend and call it a day. AND most of us don't care about your coffee business

wow lady reaper, maybe both you and dave have issues?? Lol that was quite the message, long, pointless, kinda hypocritical. I don't care if dave is jealous of metallica, for one it's who he is and what he thinks so why does it bother you? Second if it makes him jealous then he'll try harder at making a better album which most the time is a good thing you would think? Not trying to bash you there lady reaper, but your post was just stupid in my own opinion.

Okey, So exactly how much "jealousy" does mustaine needs to make a good record? The real question is how long will it take to reach there? I hope he knows that once he is inside the coffin, he can no longer make music.. Metallica should really work hard! Mustaine needs more jealousy!
If I'm correct, his highest charting was with Symphony of Destruction, and that's when I suddenly hated their new commercial approach (and stopped buying their albums). That song was just weak to me...
If suppose anything new comes up, I am going to say it sounds like sh** without even listening to it.
Used to be such a favorite, but Mustaine is mental.
sorry got to let you go Dave...

In my opinion, I would disagree that him wanting a no.1 album would make better music. Metallica, is ironically the perfect example of this. their first 4 albums...masterpieces. Their last 4...utter crap. Yet which ones topped the charts?

I like Megadeth being the underdog, I think that's what's kept the music generally around the same quality over the years.

Mutated, I am more of a Megadeth supporter then a Metallica supporter but there is no doubt Metallica's earlier work beats anything Megadeth ever released. Like come on, Kill Em' All through the Black Album was insane. Megadeth's only really solid album was C2E and maybe Rust In Peace?

usually i cant stand mustaines voice, reason for this is the first megadeth track i ever heard was Motopsycho.. which is pretty horrific.

United abominations is a damn good album but if the new one is written with hit record in mind then he can do one.

Megadeth comes out with great tracks, (along with the dodgy stuff) but I actually like it, I dig when a song goes all over the place, as long as it's unique and creative. It's all new patterns of sounds that people don't really understand or have a hard time listening to sometimes because the rhythms seem to be going 'nowhere'. The bands albums are great in my opinion and Dave has been successful with his material. I'm sure the next album will be fantastic. All I can say is that I don't think Megadeth is gonna call it quits anytime soon so that's good news for me :)
