I think it's better than the other song, but it still drives home the point that the Metallica of yesteryear is forever gone. Not bad, but nothing of greatness. I wish they would go back to the old school thrash tuning at least (Hatchet does it really well). They still sound downtuned a bit like St Anger and that's not a plus in my book.

I think this song is cool. It's more aggressive than the day that never comes. I like the first single better because of the melody and the second half sounds like ride the lightning era. To me, this song sounds just a little like St. Anger. I don't know.....we'll see what happens when the album drops. That's all I can say.

With all due respect i was able only to listen to it for about one minute before I throw up...what is this sh** because it can't be Metallica...i don't believe it.This is unbelievable how great band can go so poorly...i hope that when they will go out of this sh**ty contract, it will be old good Metallica with passion for music not for money...for now forget about it...

Metallica is not trying to redo the old sound or old songs. they (with Rick Rubin's guidance) tried to get into the same mindset and apply that to current Metallica. Metallica has never written songs for the "fans" and they don't want to go backwards in time to re-write classics. My suggestion is if you like old school metallica it's already there for you, go listen. if you don't like the new stuff quit listening because you're absolutley correct metallica will never release another MOP, and I'm happy about that.

FUk you guys complaining like little girls, no one cares if they dont sound the same. You cannot make the same cd over and over, if they did no one would listen to it. This music is fresh and original other than the crap you guys listen to like Avenged Sevenfold so if you dont like this stuff go listen to your emo bands you call "METAL". Cause i honestly dont give a fuk what you guys think about Metallica they will always have fans no matter what. They r The Best Band out there no matter what.

So you're saying that if we don't like this poor attempt at thrash metal that we like Avenged Sevenfold and emo bands? The regurgitated solo is the best part of the song. The verse is a horrible excuse for a thrash riff. I've decided that when someone's mouth is open in this band they're worse off than when it was just instrumentation. If they were actually writing good modern thrash that would be one thing but this is a poor excuse.
And obviously you do care what we say or you wouldn't have commented about it.

who wants to hear '80s metal? It's 2008 now. The metal of the '80s was Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and then Motley, and the hair bands. The hair bands got us where we are today, no one loved that music past Crue or Ratt. All other "thrash" bands rebelled against the fans of hair metal and forge the sound to more violent tones. And the mighty Metallica led the way. Fortunately all of us who do not like a band to continue to make the same record every year, Metallica decided to put their own selves to the task of trying to write what they wanted. Metallica does not care what you post on this board, nor do they care if you die tomorrow. The are a band of musicians that may have influenced every band you have heard since they released their first album. They could fart on a CD for 30 minutes and 1 million Scandinavian kids would buy it.If you don't like Metallica, that's cool! Their fans are large and will keep them more significant than any BS band that names themswlves after something that sounds scary. Millions will buy this CD and see them live and buy their next and attend their signings and wait for the next one. If you want to hear MOP every time Metallica put's out a new one then go buy MOP every year and you should satisfied. Or just don't listen , listen to some of the newer no talented cookie monster growling drop C tuned cattle decapitation copy a$$ clowns.

It's a tired story from both the fans and the band themselves - the whole evolving bit. Not making the same record does not mean they have to go lame. The band members are not even the same people they were back in the 80s. I honestly don't think they even have it in them to create another album like anything before 1992. Some good examples of bands who have not created the same album over and over and who haven't gone soft: Testament and Slayer. Enough said.
I'm still curious to hear the record and will go buy it, but the people saying that this song sounds like Damage Inc. or other old school songs must be high. I take that back - there may be some similarities in style, but overall, the qualities of their newer material are up in the forefront still and it still feels like St Anger Reload-ed to me (with better production than the former, which might actually save it).

TOO FUKIN FUNNY!!!
P.S.---hopefully the metallisheep will finally see this as the end of metallica forever!!!!!

This is hilarious. I LOVE you people. Some of these previous comments are correct in saying this: Metallica does NOT give a sh** what you skin tight black jean wearing 40 year old virgins sitting in your rooms listening to no life till leather masturbating to a picture of cliff burton playing in your "THRASH" band that has not is not nor ever will sell a single record to ANYONE for ANY REASON...thinks. "Oh golly, such terrible productions, and sheesh, the vocals, darn, Kirk is just moving up and down the neck...Shut your retarded mouths. Seriously. Pop in kill em all and whack off all you want. Listen to some mustaine, GODSPEED, but SHUT THE f*** UP AND STOP LISTENING! They will go multiplatinum and open up at number 1 on the billboard without your sorry asses. In other words, they dont need your a$$ and you will never get laid. The 80's are LOOOONG GONE so go ahead and throw on some jeans that done give you such an agonizing mooseknuckle and for God's sake shave that Jason Newsted mullet looking hair. Congrats on living during that decade. I will get you a cookie and have your trophy made and shipped your way be close of business tomorrow. MetallicA forever in any format. You b**** a$$ bunch of King Nothings.

There aren't many bands with fans this annoying. Bugs me that people aren't willing to listen before making their minds up. Are Metallica a bunch of enchanted spirits that turn everything they touch into genius? Jeez. A band's logo isn't a seal of approval. It guarantees nothing.
It doesn't sound so much like their old thrashy stuff. More just a lukewarm recreation. As far as I can hear, Metallica haven't innovated since they painted themselves into a corner with the Black Album. It's just been a question of "Which classic Metallica album are we gonna pull from this time?" with a little bit of "How much can we take from Meshuggah?" mixed in.
They're old guys inside, not just outside, and their vision's petered out. You know who's happiest to hear about this new album? Scalpers.

i didnt care for this song at all. it sounds so stale and bland. i will still add death magnetic to my collection, but from judging the first two songs they've released, i'm not very optimistic that it'll be getting many spins.
i've said it before and i'll say it again...this record is meant to be the record that st. anger was supposed to be.

I am taking the time to respond to what I've read because I think it is important to calrify that if you don't like a band you will say whatever you want to make it seem like it isn't worth a damn. In my honest opinion I feel that the people that say they only like their "OLD sh**" haven't really ever been a fan of Metallica, yet are just following someone else's thoughts. I seriously doubt these mindless morons ever had an original thought. Metallica is and will always be a great band because the whole point of rock is rebellion, going against the norm, & doing the opposite of what everyone expects. As for the recent release of these 2 songs, I would say that ,yes My Apocalypse sounds better that The Day That Never Comes, but that is true of all albums. Some songs are better of you like one better. But one thing is a fact .........You Haters will always find something to b**** about. Long live Metallica!
38. writes:
oh wait...your not really a metallifan...and if you were talking to me, you might remember that I said that I liked the guitarwork and the drums, but the snare was to high pitched and tiny...also sadly, due to his age, hetfields vocals aren't what they once were...but this is a pretty good and fun song to listen to, other then the few bad things about it. Im just happy their not doing a load/reload all over again :)

40. writes:
The music seems like a mixture of 80's era metallica and st. anger metallica, definatley a better improvement from st. anger though. The thing that bothers me the most is James' voice, but that comes with age, there really isn't anything they can do about that.

42. writes:
I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear the whole album in its entirety. I have high hopes for Rick Rubin, and I just want to hear some of Rob Trujillo's immense talent being put to good use, rather than just aping Hetfield's guitar parts. The songwriting seems a bit trite, if I'm honest. I know they're trying very hard to shake off the problems of the past but I hope they haven't tried *too* hard.

43. writes:
--this song is like last song on .....and justice but tooooo simple but hey metallica
wants to be commercial and old school at same time ...that is not god idea becuse
this song sounds like it is made in 5 minutes ...only james vocals saves this song
and in terms of quality my apocalypse is very bad and not close to any metallica
classics of justice...album. and solo is joke in this song....

46. writes:
By the way, I'm talking about making the same album over and over, not the whole "best band ever" thing because I don't really care who you think the best band ever is. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I still can't make up my mind on the best band ever, but it's definitely not Metallica.

49. writes:
Did any of you notice the lyrics refrencing Cliff's death in the song?
Crushing metal ripping skin
Tossing body manequins
Spilling blood bleeding gas
Mangled flesh snapping spines
Dripping bloody valentine
shattered face spitting glass
I would say this is a well written song lyrically. I give it a thumbs up for composition alone.

Not a bad song, decent effort. The album seems to be good so far but I think that quite a lot of people are going to criticize the album by saying that it is just a rip off of all their old songs such as My Apocalypse seems to be a rip off of Damage Inc. and The Day That Never Comes Seems to be a mix rip Off Of Fade To Black and One. Anyway can't wait for the new album and Metallica kick ass

59. writes:
I feel that the new songs are ok, i mean i guess there never going to have the same feel to it has it they use to i guess and that is no ones fault. because in life people music taste change so much it is understandable. I feel listening to the new songs, you can tell that james voice sounds different in the songs wither that has to do with age or just wanting his vocals to generally sound different... I think as a whole the album will work "fingers crossed".... I honestly don't think metallica has really made a bad album out of the career maybe to the expections of st anger which is obvious and everyone can see that as well... but i think as a whole metallica's career has lasted over 25 years and for a band to last that long is an achievement that most bands these days will never last that is for sure.... I think some people on here are just to critical on the album when it hasn't even been fully released yet.... To be honest i am looking forward to it, i just hope it wont be a let down like st anger was that is all.... Long Life Metallica

im still hoping for the best for this album. the 3 songs ive heard so far have been decent but i cant get fully into them yet. lars' drumming is mediocre at best and it seems way too loud in the mix. those stupid snare hits in the beginning of the day that never comes piss me off everytime i hear it. and that like wanna be thrash beat in the verse of my apocalypse. the only one one the three songs that sound normal on drums is cyanide. its a definite step in the right direction, but james voice isnt what it used to be so theyre never gonna be as heavy as they once were. oh well, at least they made 4 classic albums

62. writes:
Hehe its just so funny to read the comments. Some people who dont like the entire song can easily say they like some certain parts of it. The another guy comes saying he liked the song but not the same part as the other guy liked. And so it goes... Also, some people liked The Day That Never Comes better and others liked My Apocalypse better. I guess Metallica has once again managed to reach a broad audience. Personally I totally feel this song after several spins, I actually had problems in liking The Day That Never Comes, didnt feel the song had a good "flow", but that one also just evolves! So far so good. Its 2008 and still new bands havent managed to take their crown. Not thinking US, thinking worldwide. Im european and they still sell 40 000 tickets within 30mins wherever they roam.

OMG~!!!! THE TWO SONGS I HEARD SUCK SO BAD, THEY MIGHT AS WELL RETIRE!!! EVEN THAT CRAPPY INSULTING VERSION OF "REMEMBER TOMORROW", IRON MAIDEN SHOULD SUE THEM. NO ONE CAN TOUCH CLASSIC ORGINIAL MAIDEN! CERTAINLY METALLICA CAN'T. I EVEN HEARD A BUNCH OF DEMOS A COUPLE MONTHS BACK AND YOU COULD TAKE AN HOUR WITH A MONKEY AND TRAIN THEM TO PLAY THE CRAP THAT WAS ON THIS DEMO. IT WAS HORRIFIC!!! JUST LIKE THIS NEW ALBUM IS GOING TO BE.
69. writes:
yeah i do have to agree with posting 24
you guys are stiil in the past the old school thrash is over
so c***s stop b****ing about metallica or get on the wagon and start listening to there music again
think the songs what are out now on line it is are good done
and you are right you cant expect from a band to make the same music all over and over again
bet you f***ers that the ones who are b****ing right now are in the mosh pit of a metalica concert soon
so hornsup to metallica
71. writes:
Wow I have to say James' voice pretty much ruins this song, which by itself is pretty awesome. I listened to a midi version (guitar tab) several times over and couldn't wait to hear this - sounds like he's trying to sing a Load track over the top of Damage Inc. Think I liked the tab better lol

To the people who said that Slayer does not put out the same album every year.....
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I've never laughed so hard in my life. No wonder I hate metal fans. They're f*cking morons.
This song f***ing rules. The riffs starting around the 2 minute mark kick your a$$ to the next level of hell. A Slayer wanna be song?? Slayer wishes they could write this. Of course maybe they did after I stopped listening to them after they put out the same album 5 times in a row. Kerry King sounds like a child playing picking up his daddy's guitar and pretending to play every time he solos.
Ok, ok, enough of the slayer bashing, because this isn't about Slayer (which makes me wonder why people keep bringing this sh** up and comparing this to Slayer and other bands?). This song rocks. Nuff said. I'm so glad James is singing about smashing sh** again.

75. writes:
As a long time Metallica fan i think this song sounds good, much better than the crap they made the last few albums. But i have to agree that it sounds a lot like Slayer. That is the first thing that came to mind when i heard it. If they are going to imitate an 80's band, why not imitate themselves ????

76. writes:
If you don't like it ,don't buy/listen. who cares...? the album is ok, metallica is the best ever band and the most longevive in the area. you are ok, the critics are ok, but please, don't exagerate, remember, you will never love the perfect woman, or if you say so you are pieces of sh**...:)))

Sounds good, this being the second song they released to the public. Production is harbored by the poor stream quality of the file, but after hearing the last song "The Day That Never Comes" I have a good idea of where their sound is.
This whole Death Magnetic kick is strange because it is Metallica, but it isn't. Meaning I like what I am hearing, but I guess I am just so used to their prior efforts stinking so bad that Ive come to expect nothing else.
All in all this is great stuff, can't wait for the damn thing to come out finally!
