No, they're more along the lines of pop-emo. Pop punk would be like Sum 41 and Green Day. These guys remind me more of My chemical Romance and Fallout Boy, thus, by most definitions, they are what's referred to as pop-emo.
I just can't imagine moshing to the sound that comes out of Paramore, which is the only thing that i would think could break someone's arm at a warped tour or give someone bruises.

Okay, Slipknot was great back in the hey day when I was 13. So that would've been 2000. I'm not so much a fan of the newer stuff, but then I can't judge because I haven't heard the new album. But as far as I'm concern, my best friend and I arent excited yet.
I'm not being a hater. I just love Paramore. So I'm highly excited to see them win this award.
But that's my opinion.
There was moshing at the Paramore set. It was crazy, and the coolest thing to ever see and it was raining on top of that. :]

I can't think of any way of expressing my distaste for most of those bands that is insulting enough. Foo Fighters used to be decent, back in the day, just like Slipknot. Other than that, I can only agree with posts 15 and 30.
At least we know that even MTV has finally realised that these bands are merely 'rock,' and nothing heavier.

Slipknot is great because they introduce people into metal n that's great. I admit, they are quite the band but they don't own, however I will state the truth: They are unique and passionate about their music and I believe out of the whole line up, they DESERVE the award 4 sure!
Oh, n I haven't seen music videos on MTV 4 a while either...do they still play music videos??? Seriously, I HONESTLY don't know!

Plus, Paramore is better band. At least they meet and take pictures with thier fans. I've met them three times.
The one time I saw Slipknot, they acted like egotistical manics because they wanted to leave and not meet fans.
I'm not embarrassed to say I almost died at Paramore. It goes to show you that a lot of kids really like them.
I was introduced to Paramore by my best friend, so it's all his fault. So girls can't like Paramore, we all have to be mindless people or lesbians?
I love Paramore and I'm girl.

Just so you know RawrrByDefault!, this is a site for heavy metal where on a regular basis, anyone north of (i.e. lighter than) Megadeth gets ripped to shreds. So you Paramore is sort of light to a moth for flamers - I'm sure it's nothing personal, metalheads just have an ingrained sense of hate for pop-punk-emo-whatever.

I listen to metal too. I just also like Paramore. After listening to Slipknot, I moved on to heavier bands then that. But now, I'm just musically opened to anything.
My best friend makes fun of me for seeing Skeletonwitch a couple weeks ago.

To all of you: I think we kinda missed a point (including myself) but it's not about which band is better, but the award is about which band has the best visual appeal with their music video. There are some damn good bands with s#!tty videos, but there's also s#!tty bands with pretty descent videos...(just saying) I honestly don't know what to say anymore....But NO MATTER WHAT f***in' Fall Out Boy better not win 4 anything!!!

for the record: death/black metal is a lot heavier than nu metal, which is what slipknot is.(SPOILER ALERT!!) slipknot is not heavy. slipknot is, however, 9 rejects of society wearing matching clothes and wearing masks because they're so f***ing ugly they can't show their faces. 9 members in a band? 3 drummers? here's who needs to be kicked out of slipknot->;clown, the guy with a dildo for a nose, pinhead, and the f***ing DJ lmao.
How gay is the band slipknot? Any band that has skateboards, socks, shoes, and light fixtures as part of their merch is f***ing GAY. their new single has that atreyu esque chorus which makes them sound extra gay. and then in that song "all hope is gone" they put blasts in it. They're a trendy sellout band.

all i can say is that the new album is pretty damn good. gematria is a great song to open the album and all hope is gone is a great way to finish it off. the rest is sort of just filler and there is a lot of stonesour-ish songs which is a little disappointing, but it's the new slipknot and we had all better get used to it.

1. the illusion of drop tuning is that it creates a false heaviness. the lower bands tune, usually the less technical their playing is and the more redundant, brown-note based brake downs occur. drop c is unneccessarily stupid.
2. slipknot sucks. you havent listened to their new album if you think that they are heavier than "None So Vile" era Cryptopsy or Gorgoroth.
3. i've never listened to slipknot as a fan. i own 0 slipknot cds because i dont like them. and im from iowa lol! oh yeah, and i despise what those f***ers have done to the local music scene here.
4. you're loyalty to the band is both admirable and pathetic. you'll swallow whatever piss soaked-sh** they pour down your throat and immediately begin worshipping it. your the type of fan that help allows bands to slack and quit trying to attain a higher level a excellence. because they know they dont have to give 100% anymore and can coast for the rest of their careers....releasing nothing but mainstream crap.

Ive BEEN in a slipknot pit before, it was really kinda gay actually. Distubed had better, and that's saying something. I've been to a lot of concerts ranging from Ronnie James Dio down to Behemoth, and trust me, Slipknt is definitly pretty low on my list of good pits.
Top five (by order of sheer violence) pits for me would be:
Kalakai (just saw them with the absence[btw, clever pun!] and the music was f***in sick live)
Napalm Death (obviously)
Lamb of GOd(at Ozzfest, the pits were a football field in length, and there were three of them)
Devildriver(surprising actually)
Lamb of God (on a smaller tour, but the entire crowd was moshing for 3 entire songs)

one half step down isnt drop C now is it? a half step is pretty close to standard...which is what a lot of bands use. same with drop d...i personally prefer standard or Eb, but depending on the band and the song, drop d can be alright too. i've yet to hear anything tuned lower than drop d that i've liked.
reread my point on drop tuning. it was mainly focused toward nu- and -core bands...which slipknot falls under.
