I think what Kali meant is what does DRI stand for? And now we know! Long band names are more annoying than watching Friends and equally as lame. As far as the music goes, I haven't heard every band with a stupidly long name so I can't slag them all off, this band included.

What people really mean is that it has long been a metal tradition to have metal band names, normally short. catchy one word names. -cue a billion examples of metal bands-
Now the reason people have an aversion to long names is because of trends in new music now, most obviously in Emo and Metalcore. Today's bands trying to bleed some sort of epiphanous, intellectual poetry in their band name (Through The Eyes of The Dead, As I Lay Dying, From A Second Story Window etc.)
Failing that they try the "sounds like a random bullsh** sentence but we want you to think we have some amazing story behind it" sort of name (The Number Twelve Looks Like You etc.). The problem here being Grindcore had that idea already so there's a bit of overlap and you can't judge a book by it's horrendously over-sized name.
In the end though, a long band name today says "f*** metal traditions" and "we're a trendy new band", both of which deserve a kick in the nuts from a band named Violator or Gama Bomb. This post is basically an eloquent version of post 1.

I don't give a sh** what this says to metal traditions. It's tedious, and we, as possible fans, should be treated with a little more respect. These bands don't know us, what makes them think I'm even going to sit through a literal translation of their messy title, let alone an entire set? It's preposterous and it's ego in it's worst form. I don't know your band, but if you're grindcore, you're repetitive. I've heard Pig Destroyer, so therefore I've heard When Autums Decends On October Mist or f***ing Eight Dogs Play Basketball In March or f***ing Alphabet Soup Is Reminding Me Of You Right At This Moment.
I hope all these trendy f***ers die. Just because you own a book doesn't mean you should open it up and select a random sentence as your band name, you lazy pricks. You aren't cool because you saw an episode of the Twilight Zone. You're not cool because your band was so mediocre that you couldn't come up with an honest title for your band. You're not cool because you own a library card.
The only thing that might get you noticed is if you play decent music. Maybe they should start worrying about that.
I click on these ridiculous headlines with unintelligible acronyms because as soon as I see a band name like "SYTURETUSATFSGTYEOIGBWFUUIDSUWUGHTIM" I want two things:
1) To argue, of course
2) To see what that ridiculous sh** stands for.
I can't stand this sh**. Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire? That doesn't even make any f***ing sense. I don't really give a sh** that Norma Jean is a christian venture, or whatever the sh** they are, all I know is I understand their band name, and I don't have to spend the first half of their albums deciphering the name of the band that made it.

"In the end though, a long band name today says "f*** metal traditions" and "we're a trendy new band" - Good summary Cynic. I kinda feel the same way about long song names. I don't even have time to site down with a CD's packaging these days, so no way in hell I will remember these sentence-long song names some bands use.

^ there are exceptions to the rule of course, but generally speaking acronym bands have given themselves a poor reputation because most of them arent worth the piss in their shoes.
great post by cynic and hilarious but true post by crawford.
now playing: blind guardian - beyond the ice

Eight Dogs Play Basketball In March! Lol!!
Since half of grindcore seems obsessed with esoteric, meaningless phrases I don't really mind the CTTTOAFF since, hell the music is probably just as spastic and meaningless as the name. But I can't stand the pseudo-intellectual sentences = name formula. Lol funny post crawford.
