Eddie Van Halen Apparantly Not In Rehab
Reuters reports: Actress Valerie Bertinelli has said her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen is not in rehab, but she declined to say exactly what is ailing the rock guitarist, People.com reported on Wednesday.
"The reports about him being in rehab are wrong. Eddie is sober," Bertinelli said at a New York luncheon hosted by cable TV's Hallmark Channel, according to the Web site of celebrity magazine People.
This month rock band VAN HALEN, which Eddie co-founded with his brother Alex, canceled it's tour dates until April 19th and said the 53 year-old guitarist is undergoing medical tests. But the band has not divulged details of his illness.
In the 1990s, Eddie Van Halen had hip replacement surgery and was treated for oral cancer. He also has battled alcohol abuse with a stint in rehab, which led to current speculation about a return to treatment.
Bertinelli on Wednesday said "he's being proactive about his illness" but declined to be more specific.
Van Halen had a string of hits including 'Runnin' With The Devil' and 'Panama' starting in the late 1970s. In August the group unveiled plans for its current 25-city North American tour that began in September 2007.

ike Simpson - Actually, if you listen to their first album 'Van Halen' released in '77 or '78 - it was definately METAL by '70's standards - of course you can't compare it to Metallica ONLY because Metal has 'Evolved' since then. Follow the 'progression' of sound : late 60's and early 70's (deep purple, sabbath) late 70's and early 80's (van halen, kiss) mid 80's to late 80's (maiden, priest) late 80's to 90's and beyond (metallica, pantera). If anyone doubts kiss as being metal for their time i suggest one listen to the album Love Gun (1977) most of it is Very metal (title track - love gun, almost human,...) Very Metal for the 70's !

We saw Van Halen a month ago in Orlando, on Feb. 14th; just days before the tour was suspended. We were in the second row ("B") immediately next to the catwalk steps. So we had a fabulous view of everything. I commented to my son (who's 28) that Eddie looked bad, an odd type of paleness (not just a normal untanned look). I also noticed that that his knuckles are very enlarged and he appears to have arthritis. The show was excellent, and Eddie was great, but he just wasn't quite up to snuff.... or so it seemed. Oddly, I had previously said to my son, that as many of these wonderful "classic" rock acts are aging and dying off, we need to begin stepping up our concert attendance - some of them won't be around, and / or ,won't be willing or able to tour much longer... It's rather sad really. My greatest concern for Eddie, is that his cancer has returned. I read an article where Valerie stated the doctor who claimed he could cure Eddie and the process they went through, seemed bizarre and there was a lot of denial about some issues.... I hope things work out for Eddie, he's such a talented guy, and it's so nice to see the group touring with son Wolfie, and David Lee Roth being back in good form.

Its strange watching the artist I grew up with ageing and getting sick like this. In alot of ways it trips me out! As a kid you have this strange notion that they are immortal and never age or die. You almost dont want to see pictures of them because you want to remember them in their prime, but yet coureouse and look anyway or see them live to see and hear if they are withering away or still going strong. I know that the day Ozzy dies it will be the saddest day in my life.

^I disagree. Does Technical Ecstasy ring a bell? Never Say Die? The Ultimate Sin? Ozzmosis and Down To Earth? What about his reality show? The guy is a f***ing walking corpse now. The last good thing he did was Bark at the Moon. Imo the only things he should be truly remembered for are the first 4 Black Sabbath releases.

Now don't get me wrong I liked Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, and Bark At the Moon (No Rest, No More Tears, and Black Rain were ok also) but they are severly overated and get very little listening time from me as I prefer the blues influenced Psychedelic/Stoner Doom he helped create on Black Sabbath and Paranoid and mastered on Master of Reality and Vol. 4.
