Ozzy Osbourne Lists His Top Five Rock Bands

Don Kaye from Launch Radio Networks has posted this report:
Ozzy Osbourne has listed his five favorite Hard Rock bands for Spinner.com. The list includes LED ZEPPELIN, MOTÖRHEAD, NIRVANA, GREEN DAY and, of course, his own group, BLACK SABBATH.
Osbourne said about his Number One choice, LED ZEPPELIN, "I can remember walking through Birmingham with Geezer Butler, the bass player from SABBATH, and he knew (ZEP singer) Robert Plant. Plant was walking through the subway and I'd heard his voice. And Geezer says to him, 'What are you up to?' Plant says, 'Well, they asked me to join a band called the New Yardbirds (which became ZEPPELIN).' And that was it... The first two albums had such an impact on my voice, and on my life, similar to the BEATLES when I first heard them."
About BLACK SABBATH, Osbourne said, "One of the things with SABBATH: We had full control over what we were doing and how we wanted it laid out. People would come in the studio and give us a suggestion and we'd go, 'Would you f***ing get out of here right now?' We had full artistic control."
On NIRVANA: "Apparently, I met (late NIRVANA frontman Kurt Cobain), 'cause I was talking to Dave Grohl and he said, 'You probably don't remember this, but when you were in Devonshire Studios in the (San Fernando) Valley, me and Kurt were in the room where they had a pool table. When you walked in we were like, 'F***ing hell'.'"
Osbourne called GREEN DAY's "American Idiot" album "f***ing brilliant."
Osbourne's new album, "Black Rain", debuted at number three on the Billboard album chart last month. The CD's first single, "I Don't Wanna Stop", is currently Number One at Rock radio.
The singer will headline this summer's free Ozzfest, which begins on July 12 in Seattle.

You enjoy what you enjoy I guess but all I see those bands as are overhyped sh**. Nirvana being overhyped during the 90's due to the whole grunge effect and green day hitting it big due to bringing the idea of rebellion into teenage homes. Both bands music and individual songs sounds similar to all the others. Repetitive drums and chords over and over and over. Nothing but catchy choruses that kids can sing along with and feel like they are lashing out. Not my idea of quality music then again though, to each his own. But it still blows my mind that an icon like Ozzy Osbourne would actually enjoy that kind of sh**.

I'll agree Zeppelin is overhyped to a certain extent, but at the same time Zeppelin did many creative things with their music. Egyptian sounding songs like Kashmir, to catchy and creative tunes like Heartbreaker. Their music takes many different twists and tunrs so alot of the individual songs stand out as classics.

I'm guessing here:
With Ozzy being a metal singer who applies and adheres to the pop song format, I can see why he might appreciate Nirvana and Greenday.
The motif of Nirvana trying to make pop-punk songs as strange (for it's time) as possible and for GreenDay (their last album anyway) to maintain their signature sound while expanding what their sound could be. I dislike Greenday but I enjoyed Nirvana during my pre-teen through teen years. I still appreciate some of Cobain's lyrics.
Going by my logic though, one would expect Ozzy to say Pink Floyd, The Beatles or Queen.....I dunno....
Thats Ozzy for ya.
Now Playing: Moonspell - "Luna"

As far as Ozzy listing The Beatles, Pink Floyd, or Queen, he didn't because his list was of his favorite HARD rock bands. I don't about everyone else, but none of those are hard rock. As for him listing Greenday and Nirvana I think its just weird. American Idiot isn't really all that brilliant.

I will say that Sabbath, Motorhead, and Zeppelin are respectable choices, but Green Day and f***ing Nirvana. A sh**ty grunge band from seattle (RIP Kurt) and a sh**ty mainstream punk band? I don't get that right there.
