Suffocation and Relapse Records Part Ways

Suffocation's contract with Relapse Records has run its course and the band is now officially without a label. Here's a statement from the group:

"Suffocation is happy to announce that we've fulfilled our contractual obligations to Relapse Records and are now free agents again. We would like to thank all on the Relapse staff for their support and efforts. We've learned valuable lessons over the past few years.

We are looking forward to what the future will bring, we have many goals and ideas in the works that will definitely make for a focused and eventful future for the band. At this point of our career the goal is to make the next steps the most important ones. Propelling the band as well as the Extreme metal genre to the next level is top priority.

It is long over due and we look forward to the challenge and opportunity to right the wrongs that has kept the genre underground and unexposed since its inception. Stay tuned."

Suffocation is one of the best deathmetal bands around and what needs to happen is Road Runner or Metal Blade or a big record lable needs to pick this band up and take them to the next level and get their name out there more so then it is at the moment.

Aside from record lables, Suffocation will keep on going and their last self titled album was awesome!

I dunno about RR, they mangle 3/4 of their acts. Ask Type O and Fear Factory among many others.

Well I don't often defend RR, but they are the top metal lable and have an amazing list of old and current bands on their roster. RR always wants a good strong mix of metal and Suffocation would be a good death metal band to bring in. RR has picked up Opeth, Dream Theater, PT, among others who happen to be are awesome bands. In doing so they are making a awesome roster now which has a great range in metal sound. Even though big metals bands have been messed with like Fear Factory and such in the past, RR was still a major part in their development and for Fear Factory, Type O Negative, and many others had their best albums under RR.

I think DeathInEye has a good suggestion to that Nuclear Blast Records would be a good spot to go. I think where ever they end up RR, Metal Blade, Century Media, or Nuclear needs to strongly look at this band because in the Death Metal community this band is something special and belongs on a top lable to get their name out there.

Roadrunner WAS good, but that's becaause they grab at anything that will sell. When progs not so popular and the new trend comes in those bands will find themselves out in the cold in terms of advertising etc. just like Death, Obituary etc did in the 90s.
