STRAPPING YOUNG LAD mastermind Devin Townsend has posted his first video transmission in connection with his upcoming solo album, entitled "Ziltoid the Omniscient," which can be viewed on YouTube.

Due on May 22 via Inside Out Music America, "Ziltoid the Omniscient" was recorded completely by Devin, who took care of the singing, guitar, bass, synthesizers and sampling duties, in addition to mixing and producing the album on his own. Devin has stated on the HevyDevy forums that he used "the drumkit from Hell" on this release — the same kit that was previously utilized by MESHUGGAH on "Catch Thirty-Three" and which was developed by MESHUGGAH's Tomas Haake. Check out the cover artwork at this location (art created by Travis Smith). Audio samples of the songs "ZTO", "By Your Command" and "Hyperdrive" can be heard at the project's MySpace page.

Torment, pain and suffering. We can escape Ziltoid's wrath just by trading some coffee beans? I don't drink coffee, so Ziltoid can have 'em all as far as I'm concerned. You know what, Ziltoid can also take the goddamn mexican guy and his burro, too!

That was just too damn funny. Devin is a riot, musically and otherwise.

Not that Townsend has ever been a pillar of sanity, but wow...

I have no plans on picking this up, but I am curious to see where it goes. I'd rather have a SYL record, but based on this, it's clear Devin REALLY needed that break from Strapping.
