Slayer Win First Grammy For "Eyes Of The Insane"

Slayer have been awarded their first-ever Grammy Award. The track, "Eyes of the Insane," from the band's most recent album, "Christ Illusion," took the Grammy in the category of Best Metal Performance. Fellow category nominees included Lamb of God, Mastodon, Ministry and Stone Sour.
This was Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track "Disciple" (from "God Hates Us All"), also in the Best Metal Performance category.
Slayer, currently headlining a North American tour, did not attend the Grammy's presentation, but vocalist/bassist Tom Araya had this to say about the win from his hotel room in Columbus, OH: " Jeff [Hanneman] and I put a lot into 'Eyes of the Insane' so we're thrilled that the Grammy voters took the time to listen to it, and then vote for it. We're out here on the road and we're all really, really happy."

I competely agree with A.C. Slayter. Grammys are just a giant joke now. I keep waiting for Motorhead, or Mastodon or Slayer to win "album of the year" because they all came out with completly badass albums this year. And then, even when a heavy metal artist finaly does win something, they don't even show it on TV. We have to watch Justin Timberf*** sing with some random chick. I can't even express how mad i am at the grammys. Until someone kickass actually preforms at the grammys my anger will never be out.

Thankfully they finally have recognition, although I would not consider the Grammy Fraternity their 'peers' so I guess it’s great that they won the award, but at the same time the Grammy’s have become a joke and another way to increase the mainstream record companies profits.

I'm a long time Slayer fan, but I was really really rooting for Mastodon's track to win. "Blood Mountain" is a truly amazing album. I don't throw the word masterpiece around too often, but other words are currently failing me to describe it's glory. It leaves me satisfied like no other and I can't think of anything else I'd want packed into an hour long trip of progressive heavy metal. "Colony of Birchmen" is also an amazing song, it can give you chills. They deserved the award, but I'm not surprised that they gave it to Slayer. Really now, who didn't see that coming?

I honestly think that Slyaer is an incredible band. Incredible!!! But I honestly would've prefered it if Stone Sour won the award because I like them much more. Lamb Of God would've been an awesome choice as well.
Also, I didn't know that Ministry was still making music. Or Motorhead either. That f***ed me up.
But yeah if they've been around this long and haven't gotten recognition, I'd say it's about time Slayer won something. So Congrats to them! Christ Illusion is an awesome album & Eyes Of The Insane is an awesome song. Although I do think that there are some othere songs on the album that could've done better, like Cult or Flesh Storm. But whatever as long as they won, I'm cool with it.

I've been a Slayer fan for a long time. I'm glad they won, but there are so many other songs that deserved to win. I don't know what that country-bumpkin was thinking with that "zztop wannabe" comment - but, say what you will, SLAYER RULES! Reign in blood is still labeled the best metal album ever! I see alot of you dont care about the grammy's; rightfully so. over the years the infestation of "yo MTV RAPS" back int he day has gone astray and we all sadly watched "headbanger's ball" get ripped off the air in order to make room for RAPTV. I thought MTV was sopposed to stand for "music Television in the first place" When HBB went off the air we rapidly seen alot of the Heavy Metal reconition become over looked and cast aside because of multiple media outlets' fear of not grooming to the "new age genre" One hit club songs after another. -which seems to be the mainstay of whats out there now being made. Bands like Slayer, Moterhead, Antharax, and many many others that not just paved the way for all these great new heavy bands out there to go off of; but took the generation before them and strait up UNLEASHED METAL and every other "stupid labeled genre name of ""music"" for the entire EARTH! It is really sad that Slayer is now only getting awards considering they put an UNGODLY amount of time touring the world for the love of what they do and the respect of their fans.
If you are devout to the metal mindset you should speak you mind and defend these bands whether you like / dislike a certain band.
As a whole, metal is here to stay.
Congrats Slayer you have been long long long overdue for some RESPECT.

These guys stayed true to their music and fans, became icons,true icons, without selling-out(unlike metallica).

I'm agree with almost everyone of you guys... why lamb of god or slayer are not nominees for "Album of the Year"... why is it just best performance??? slayer it's a band with years on this, they deserve a lot more... this is to cheap for slayer, or lamb of god, they are so honest with their music, not like Britney or Avril Lavigne, so f***ing fake!!! and Grammy support that kind of stuff! real band like slayer should be taken more seriously... they don't deserve a Grammy... because Grammy is sh**!

It's a shame that we cant see more bands like this on the show. It makes me so sick to see these artists, most of which dont even write their own stuff, win these awards. It used to really mean something if you won a grammy, now it's all plagued by R&B and Pop. I love how they try and honor the real musicians who have dedicated their lives to this like Herb Alpert or The Grateful Dead, but they don't let them speak. They have to make more time to see Beyonce and the Dixie Sluts. Completely rediculous! I get more satisfaction checking out the albums of the year lists by Terrorizer or Decible. f*** the grammy's!
