Metallica Performed A Second New Song At Festival

METALLICA performed another new song — tentatively dubbed "New Song No. 2" — during their headlining appearance Saturday night (August 12) at the Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo, Japan. According to one BLABBERMOUTH.NET visitor (jason_813) who attended the concert, the song is "totally different from 'New Song No.1'. It's about three minutes long and very fast and seems to be based around two searing [Kirk] Hammett solos. It was a very rough performance, especially from Lars [Ulrich] but definitely shows promise."
As was the case with all the concerts on the band's recent European tour, METALLICA played their entire 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", during the Tokyo show, including rarely performed tracks such as "Orion" and "Disposable Heroes".
"Master of Puppets" came out in the spring of 1986 and was METALLICA's first gold album and mainstream success. It featured staples of the band's live set such as "Battery", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and the title track.
It was also the last METALLICA album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed later that year in a tour bus crash.
METALLICA's setlist – August 12, 2006 at Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo, Japan:
01. Creeping Death
02. Fuel
03. Wherever I May Roam
04. The God That Failed
05. Fade To Black
06. Battery
07. Master of Puppets
08. The Thing That Should Not Be
09. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
10. Disposable Heroes
11. Leper Messiah
12. Orion
13. Damage, Inc.

14. Sad But True
15. Nothing Else Matters
16. One
17. Enter Sandman
- - - -
18. The Other New Song
19. Seek and Destroy
METALLICA is currently writing material for its ninth studio effort, which is tentatively expected in the summer or early fall of 2007. "I think we've realized that the creative process works a little slower for us than it used to, and we're OK with that," METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently told BBC Radio 1. "It's not a bad thing, unless, of course, you're waiting for a record."

Lars is done! Did You hear them with Lombardo? This is the worst case senario for a great band. A drummer with tenure and a over hyped name; that should be cut loose from the band is still there. Unreal front man - great guitar player - and insane bassist, conjoined with an over the hill sub-par drummer. Man I loved them once. Now??? Want to impress a once loyal fan? Cut "Nothing Else Matters" off the F%*#ING set list along with the lame a$$ doodleing!

I'd rather hear Call of the Ktulu over Orion any day (call me strange but Call is one of the best instrumental pieces in metal).
The set is a step up from Summer Sanitarium in 2000 . I'd take out Wherever I May Roam Fuel and Enter Sand man. Add Blackened and cover Reign in Blood. I'd piss myself if they covered that with the kind of energy they had the mid 80's.

Ktulu is an awesome piece of music. f*** me, I hate Enter Sandman, though. Possibly THE most over-rated tune in known history. Ask any mainstream Metallica fan if they know anything by Metallica - first thing they'll say? "Enter Sandman". IT'S NOT EVEN A GOOD SONG!!!
As RM? said, it's a step up from previous setlists (especially ones from whilst they were playing in support of St. Anger), but I would still like to see more material from Ride The Lightning or Kill 'Em All...
or Reign In Blood.

for some reason i have high hopes for this album. I love how they are playing the entire puppets album straight through. where's the justice medley? where's horseman, jump in the fire, and bells? oh well, overall a pretty good set list with lots of old school flavor.

Hey, to you guys that said they only played Dyer's Eve live once, that must have been the Madison, WI show in 2004, because I was there and that was the last song they played. it came after Enter Sandman, Die Die My Darling, and Master of Puppets. It Kicked A$$.

As far as Metallica covering Slayer's flagship song....I dunno, somehow I can just see Kirk and James doing that harmonized lead and putting just enough of an old school Metallica spin on the rest of the song for it to work....
Present day Metallica could learn alot from once upon a time Slayer....

why in the hell would they want to cover slayer? why doesn't slayer cover dyers eve?
that's the most retarded thing i've ever heard! why all the stupid comparisons?
metallica have never wanted to be slayer, and i'm sure slayer has never wanted to be metallica.
they come from the same roots, but they've never been the same. you know slayer could also learn a thing or two from metallica.

I see a lot of metallica noobs here and it vexes me deeply. Let me enlighten you:
1.Dyer's Eve was first played at The Forum in LA (03/05/04) and after that it was played somewhat 10-15 times all around the globe.
2. Slayer (eventhou a good band) is a piece of sh** compared to metallica and the only reason why metallica didn't cover any of their songs was because it would be a disgrace for them.
3. Enter Sandman IS a good song, it's just played a bit too often.
4. METALLICAAAAAAAA, you're absolutely right!!

26. writes:
Don't get me wrong, I probably got carried away. Enter Sandman ISN'T a BAD song. But it's far too over-played, and far from coming close to Metallica's better efforts. As I said, it's an extremely over-rated song. But not necessarily bad. I just can't stand it any more, personally.

MetallicA was a great band in the past, it's true... and yes, they did a cover to SLAYER's "Raining Blood" once.
Both bands were great, they recorded metal classics like "Reign in Blood" and "Master of Puppets". But if you analyze the career of these bands you'll see that SLAYER is much better than metallica, even you don't want to accept, it's a fact!
Honestly I'd like to be wrong, but I think the new MetallicA album isn't going to be different of their last albums.

I have heard the "another new song" from metallica
( a.k.a. suckatallica, sh**allica, selloutica, poptallica. )
and like the "new song" its horrible. its boring, sounds weak and slow.
something fast is dyers eve.
those lazy bastards will never play fast again
they wont play true metal again.
so to all hardcore (blinded as well) metallica fans.
go an suck your own d***s ... you fags

i appreciated metallica... Entersandman is a good song to be true but over rated. but the new song and 2nd new song is pure gaytallica. and @ Human: are u semen? how u say covering slayer by gaytallica wud be a disgrace. stop typing in metal forums while you listen to back street boys or boy bands like that. aha... the Human came to enlighten noobs. do ya know whoz cliff burton? what he did for metallica? u useless piece of sh**. just gave me a bad moment.
