Korn Postpones Tour Due To Jonathan Davis Being Hospitalized With Blood Ailment

MTV.com reports: Korn frontman Jonathan Davis was admitted to a London hospital over the weekend for treatment of a blood disorder called immune thrombocytopenic purpura, forcing the band to pull out of at least one European festival gig and deliver an abbreviated set with guest singers at Saturday's U.K. Download Festival. According to a band spokesperson, Davis may be sidelined for the next three weeks, as he continues to recover.
Korn, who did not perform at Ireland's Download Festival on Sunday, are also expected to cancel a performance at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam on Tuesday; further shows are expected to be postponed.
A post from Davis on Korn's official Web site confirmed the illness — a disorder in which a low blood-platelet count prohibits the blood from clotting as it should.
"I started getting these weird bruises all over my body about two weeks ago," Davis wrote. "I was getting very weak after the shows so I saw a doctor in London Friday. He took some blood tests and when the results came in, they rushed me to the hospital. It turned out that I have ITP ... a blood infection where, because of an allergic reaction I had to some medication, my blood platelets were really low. If I continued to headbang onstage, I could have had a brain hemorrhage and dropped dead on the spot."
According to Davis, while most people have between 140 and 400 platelets in their blood cells, "I had 5 — no joke." He has been ordered by his doctors to remain under the hospital's supervision until "they [can] get my blood in some kind of healthy shape. The doctors are telling me that each day I've been here in the hospital, my platelet count has been going up and I should be healthy to play in a few weeks. The doctors have cleared me to walk around a bit but I am unable to perform a show or travel right now. We will do our very best to come back soon to play any dates we are unable to play on this tour."
During the U.K.'s Download Festival, which took place at Donington Park, Korn delivered an abbreviated 30-minute set with guest singers filling in for Davis.
When guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer, bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and drummer David Silveria took the stage, a bandmember told the crowd, "We've had some issues" but would "play on with some friends of ours," the Download Festival site reports.
Korn recruited a number of artists to stand in for Davis. Jesse Hasek of 10 Years grabbed the microphone for "It's On!" while Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows belted out "Falling Away From Me." Former Coal Chamber and current DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara handled vocals for "Somebody, Someone" and "Coming Undone," and Skindred's Benji Webbe tackled "A.D.I.D.A.S." Slipknot/ Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor performed "Clown" and "Freak on a Leash" and Trivium's Matt Heafy joined the band for "Blind."

lol, how crazy would it have been if he DID keep headbanging, and dropped dead in the middle of it - hahah, he probly would've got labeled "most hardcore headbanger ever" or something. lol, not a laughing matter, I know, but... the imagery is amusing, admit it.

Karma is a funny thing....In 2000 Metallica were in this situation.
James Hetfield couldn't play on a couple nights of the summer sanitarium tour and members of SOAD and Korn filled in for the vocals and guitar parts, and to their credit they pulled it off really well.
The crowd were very happy with the fact that those band members did their best....It didn't hurt that Metallica came back with James 2 monthes later for a free show for all the ticket holders.....
It's nice to see the newest generation of metal acts pull together and do something similar for Korn.....Even if I hate the direction Korn have gone with their music with the latest album, they're good guys and hard workers and the members of Trivium, Devil Driver, Stonesour, Skindred, 10 Years and as much as it kills me to say it A7X...really came through.

lol, I don't WANT Jono to die, the fact that it's Jono is irrelevant. I just think it'd be an awesome way to go - on stage, in front of a host of fans, headbanging your life away until you really DO headbang your life away! I mean, if there was ever a 'metal' way to go...

I agree with Psythe. I think that'd be the ultimate way to go...
Imagine this: Davis is head-banging near the edge of the stage, lets pretend for the sake of the story that it's a decently elevated stage and there's no need for a security border. Davis plummets over the edge, stone-cold dead, yet people think he's stage diving and they subsequently pass around his corpse.....
It'd be pretty funny / f***ed up, no matter who it was. And it be especially funny if it happened to a radio pop-star. Can't you see the headline now? "Good Charlotte lead singer (name not important) dies on stage in head-banging incident".
My first thought'd be - what the hell was he doing head-banging?
Here's wishing Davis better health shortly.

Nope no clue on the footage. I caught that show in Sparta KY 6 years ago......(Somewhere between Moonshine and Deliverance counties, heh) Where does the time go?...
Anyway heres a link about the story http://www.livedaily.com/news/Metallica_Singer_Back_In_Action-1456.html
Here are the setlists they played on the night without James Sparta and the night with him in Lexington.
08.07. Kentucky Speedway, Sparta, Kentucky
Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Seek And Destroy, Mastertarium, One, Blind, Earache My Eye, Clown, South Of Heaven, Sad But True, American Badass, Nothing Else Matters, Fortunate Son, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Fuel, Turn The Page, Whiplash, Enter Sandman
Rupp Arena, Lexington, Kentucky
Ecstasy Of Gold, Creeping Death, For Whom The Bell Tolls, Seek And Destroy, Fade To Black, Sad But True, Whiplash, Fuel, No Leaf Clover, King Nothing, Mastertarium, Battery, Nothing Else Matters, I Disappear, One, Turn The Page, Enter Sandman, Last Caress, So What, Die Die My Darling
I had forgotten about little things like Kirk playing one of Korns 7 stringers (he looked baffled but by the end seemed to enjoy it) Kid Rock playing just about every instrument at least once. Jason Newsted doing most of the lead vocals (surprisingly well). John Davis did a great version of One. Even better were Serj and Daron of Soad on Mastertarium. They played the song really fast and Malakian did the deranged laugh at the end and the crowd went nuts!...Standing ovation from all the people sitting in the bleachers. Blind and Clown were played more in the style of Metallica and those songs also sounded good. American Badass fizzled out somewhere around the 3rd chorus....Had a decent amount of beerbuzz going so details beyond that suck.....But the Lexington show was really impressive...
To this day I think I got more than my monies worth.

to LORD AGONY- if you are sooo upset about the whole Christianity thing, perhaps you should go to church and cleanse yourself of your sins. You should also try staying away from this website as the vast majority I assume is not religious and frankly do not care about it one bit. I personally abhor religion of any kind.
I hate to tell you this but most of the Christians are con artists. Religion and the church nowdays are nothing more that a business. KORN just tells it like it is.
Is blasphamy not a sin?

Religion is brain washing. From birth people are told what to believe, and what the consequences are if they fail to believe. You could tell your child from birth that large jellyfish are the Gods, and make up all sorts of fantasy rules, and you know what? The kid would believe it!

Remember Metal- I was at that Sparta show and I was blown away by everyone's contributions except Kid Rock. I remember he had already had a weak set of his own and when he tried to fill in for James on Sad But True he totally screwed up the lyrics and seemed kinda confused. My favorite part of the show was Davis' One and I still wish I could find a copy of it. It's good to see that Davis' good deed is now coming back around.

I was at Donnington, and its was terrible to hear the news as i stood in the Pit awaiting the Band to show, still good fo them to perform, some tried to impersonate Jon's voice, just didn't work, Benji did good with A.D.I.D.A.S and Corey Taylor with Freak on a Leash was superb! Started late but he did great with it all the same especially the beat boxing part "Boom na da mmm dum na ema
Da boom na da mmm dum na ema.." i was impressed with the likleyness there, but Blind was ruined and even the words at the end were wrong Corey shud have stayed on for Blind imo

I hope Jon Davis gets better soon. Thats sad and I hope he gets out okay. Good luck Jon and best wishes. Bodom Fan you are wrong cuz that is not funny so if you have any bad comments about Jon Davis and/or KoRn you just need to keep them to yourself. Im not trying to be mean. Its just not funny he could have died and he is a good person and kicka** singer in a kicka** band
