MTV.com is reporting that System of a Down will go on hiatus after completing the Ozzfest 2006 tour.
"We're not breaking up," Malakian insisted. "If that was the case, we wouldn't be doing this Ozzfest, because we're a little nervous" about trying to fill Ozzy Osbourne's shoes. Ozzy will be headlining just 10 of this year's Ozzfest dates, with System topping the bill on Ozzy's off days. "We're going to take a very long break after Ozzfest and do our own things," he added. "We've done System for over 10 years, and I think it's healthy for us to get away from it for a while and come back to it later on. So, this is probably going to be ... well, it's not a farewell tour, but it's going to be a little while before we go out again."
Malakian said he couldn't guess just how long System's hiatus will be, other than to say a few years. System of a Down have generally held recording sessions every three years since their self-titled debut in 1998, although the release of the material has been staggered: 2001's Toxicity was followed in 2002 by the outtakes collection Steal This Album!, and in 2005 the band issued the two halves of its double album, Hypnotize/ Mezmerize, five months apart. This fall, Malakian said he'll start work on his next project, Scars on Broadway, a band he's still assembling. He's also in talks to score a feature film, but hasn't inked a deal just yet.
And the rest of the band has other interests, too. Tankian runs his own record label, Serjical Strike, and Odadjian has been talking with members of the Wu-Tang Clan about working together on a project.
"I have a few things lined up that I want to do," Malakian explained. "For me, personally, I've written all the System records from day one, so it's kind of healthy for me to go off and do a few other things and then come back to it, as it is for the rest of the band. Some people would call it a breakup, but we don't really call it that. You know, even U2 took a little time off, and then they came back with a new sound. We're not trying to follow anyone — that's just an example of a band that kind of took a little break and then came back.

i would first like to discuss the complete and utter selfishness you are displaying in dissing any kind of music genre, although they are not up to your standards of "metal" i feel System are still an exellent band, regardless of their sound, they display clear messages in their lyrics, and stand up for what they believe in, how they convey their feelings should not be a topic used for criticism, it should be looked at, and appreciated for the fact that they have an opinion, and are proud to express it publically. wether or not you like them is completely irrelevant, other people do, and i am sure you would not like them dissing your music, wishing an end to it, or launching personal attacks on you for your personal likes and dislikes, wether in music, or other aspects of your life.
secondly, if you don't like the band, why bother taking the time to A. diss them, B. deliberately provoke those people who DO like them and C.carry on in suck a manner as to both alienate people, and waste your own time as well as the time of others, not only in having to defend their mucis likes, but in having to read the constant drawl of criticism and foul language erupting violently from your writing. you will duely note that i have managed to get through this entire peice of text without swearing, yelling, launching a personal attack, criticising, filing you into an unfair stereotype, or cussing in any way, but still, i am getting the message through loud and clear.
third, i have observed that you seem to not only have formed an utter dislike for System Of A Down, you appear to have some kind of appaling grudge against anyone who doesnt like your particular style of music. i find this sad to be honest, intolerance has got to be one of the most ghastly traits to have, it disallows your persona to connect fully with those of other people, allowing you to be seen not only as an eletist, but having people see you as a very callus, uncaring person. truly you need to learn how to win friends and influence people. i suggest this goal could be achieved through the adaptation of your personality to allow you to feel human emotions such as "compassion", that way you may just be able to understand that no two people are the same, and no matter what you think perfection is, you are unique in your opinion, as is everybody else, no one has the exact same taste in music as anyone else in the world. you would do well to learn from this, and i hope you then mend the errors of your ways.
finally, i pose you a question. what is "emo"? it is a topic i have discussed with many a person, and a challenge few seem to be albe to master. in out day and age, the meanings of most of our stereotypes have been hideously warped, and as a result, terms such as "emo" and "slut" seem to be being thrown around more and more oftern, each time relating further and further away from the topic and the word's original meaning. so next time you see fit to judge a person's worth and personality based solely on a few lines of writing, i suggest you look up the term you intend to use as an insult, and make sure the situation doesnt backfire and result in your own loss and embarrassment.
in conclusion guys, wether or not you like a band, or in fact an entire genre of music, it is completely irrelevant in the real world, no one really cares, and if they do, they are the people like you, who only care because it isnt what they want you to like, it doesnt suit them, and people like that, you will find, are hardly worth your time, and in the long run, they are the ones who end up all alone in a world that will not tollerate intollerance.

I wish no hate on anyone who likes this band, but I saw SOAD at Ozzfest several years ago, and frankly I was bored. They had people onstage (I guess they were in the band) hopping up and down and shaking their heads from side to side as they hopped. I thought this was a joke - honestly - and I started to laugh. Then I realized other people were laughing and pointing too, and a few people were actually rocking out to them - the same ones who rocked out to every other band, including the intro tapes played before the show. So I thought - "I shouldn't be closed minded. Maybe if I really listen to the music and try to let it sink in, I will feel it." Nothing. So, I thought "I'm trying to hard", so I relaxed and calmed my mind and attempted to just let the music do its magic - still nothing. No magic. Then I saw lots of people going to take a bathroom break or get a beer and socialize right during their set, so I just chilled out and did the same and looked forward to Slayer and Sabbath.
All in all, I had no desire for any animosity towards the band, because IMO they were so ineffectual it was not even worth getting upset about. The were alternative to me, or like alternative - they did not penetrate and activate any emotion. The ideas that their fans say are in the music is all fine and good, but IMO ideas are for poetry and philosophy, and although they can work very well in heavy music, the MUSIC has to be effective FIRST. I just didn't relate at all, and they were then just another band to wait through to get to the good stuff. And this was during SOAD's "classic era". Hmmm.
Let me be clear. I do not hate this band or those who like them. More power to them all. I don't care what they call themselves, metal or not, and if that's your favorite band, then great. I define music on my own terms, and since I don't want someone pushing their sh** on me, I will do the same in return and not push it on another. But please, SOAD fans, don't be offended if people do not consider them metal. There is a certain feeling that's just not there for many long time metal fans, and since the music just doesn't hit (not just in terms of heaviness, but in terms of provoking your interest, making you feel *compelled*, whether the music is fast or slow or brutal or intricate), all the great ideas of the band are lost to those who are into the MUSIC of a band before the IDEA behind a band. I'm pretty much done with this band, so no big deal. SOAD's debut and toxicity albums were bad ass, but they kind of lost that flare they had when they released steel this album. They never won me back from there. So, good bye SOAD... i'm glad I saw them before they got lame. oh well. there are so many bad a$$ bands out there I find it difficult having any emotional response to this other than a sense of pure mediocracy.
