Phil Anselmo Disbands Superjoint Ritual
In a recent interview with Live-Metal.net, SUPERJOINT RITUAL bassist Hank III discussed his new solo album, "Straight to Hell", and revealed that he is working on a new project with SUPERJOINT RITUAL/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo called ARSON ANTHEM. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Live-Metal.net: What is going on with SUPERJOINT RITUAL?
Hank III: "SUPERJOINT is in the grave right now, because someone tried bossing the boss and you NEVER boss the boss. Now he had to learn the hard way, so Philip has laid that band to rest. It might come back. I seriously doubt it. But in the meantime, DOWN is working on their new record and getting ready to be touring here soon. I've got another side project with Philip. I'm playing drums and Philip's is playing guitar. Mike Williams from EYEHATEGOD is screamin' and it's called ARSON ANTHEM. So far we've got eight songs of it recorded. So we're still having fun and making music, just getting in there and jammin', man."
Live-Metal.net: Your music seems to be evolving with each release that you put out. How do you see you music changing with your future releases?
Hank III: "I think it is more of a step in a direction that captures what we are. I mean, as far as us being a little rough around the edges, ya know. This record definitely captures that a lot more then the earlier ones ’cause – I don't know – ’cause we weren't able to be ourselves as much. The kind of crowd we attract, I mean some of them are straight-up Americans, but a lot of them are the kids in black and the hellraisers and partiers and all that stuff, the more rebel kind of crowd.
Live-Metal.net: Do you get a lot of pressure to tone down anything that you record from your label?
Hank III: "No, not anymore. They know I have been in the courtroom for the last four and a half years with them for a reason, and that is the key. Respect us for what we are, ya know. Everybody else can fit in the mold. There's 125 bands that can fit in the mold around here, so it's OK for one of them to go against the grain and then for them to halfway respect us, man ... So ... Getting there."

How can Anselmo be in a band where he has no part in the vocals? He has one of the best screaming vocals out there! Pumped up for a new Down release though thats some GOOD music you can straight up chill to. Hopefully Anselmo starts another band where hes screaming and raging.

I spoke to a guy from Richmond, VA not long ago about Pantera (initially, because I was wearing one of my CFH shirts) at my buddies wedding, and we'd wandered into Superjoint discourse, and then into Down.
He told me then that SJR was pretty much done for. I didn't necessarily believe it at the time, nor did I care all that much, but so it turns out - in the end he nailed it. He was a promoter, so go figure, eh? (rhetorical q).
Au Revior, as the Frenchies say.

I'm sick and f***ing tired of seeing these pointless "f*** you you c*** sucking a$$hole" posts, so try to stick to the issue, mother f***ers. To preface my comments, I'll admit that I am definitely an Anselmo fan. But personally I think it's about damn time SJR called it quits. They rocked the f*** out live, no doubt, but to be brutally honest, in comparison to Phil's previous projects, SJR was sh**. Hopefully he'll put more time into Down, I need me some more of that sh**.

Phil Anselmo kicks your ass, he is one of the best metal singers of all time b****es, but still it sucks that he killed superjoint they were so hard core man, Down is still here and he is going to tare it up and JHON SENA eat sh** and die you f***ing butt-pirate.

first of all sjr was a good band, supergay ritual your a fag for just having that name, one thing i will say is they wernt that good live, i went to a show and phil almost passed out from being f***ed up, have you ever seen the dvd, he sounds like sh**, besides that they could play some good tunes and i hope phil gets his sh** together because he is one of the greatest metal singers of all time. you people need to stop threatning each other on line, it makes you look like a f***ing retard

phil is nothing but a f***in' loser drug addict metal dropout...and Glen Benton would kick his f***ing ass. Phil turned his back on one of the best blues guitarists and metal drummers I've ever heard. May the corpsegrinder eat phil's f***ing brains while he's still breathing.

post 42,
Phil Anselmo isn't that special. I like him, but he's not that special. I've been listening to metal since I was 3 too, so try me. Just because Phil Anselmo is the best of the more exposed metal singers, doesn't mean he's the best overall metal singer.
-"f*** you"
"motherf***er"
Are those the best you can come up with? Try not swearing and coming up with a better insult, you'll look smarter.

Truth... Phil has an incredible metal voice. Truth... it's his fault Pantera and Dime are dead !!! If he would've cut out his heroin addiction and not left Pantera, then Dime and Vinnie wouldn't have formed DamagePlan and they never would have played that sh**hole of a club in Ohio and that c***sucker would never have gotten anywhere close to Dime to shoot him. That fag that took Dime from us told people before he did it that Dime was the reason Pantera was dead. I wish he would've had his facts straight and maybe then Dime would still be with us... Phil would be the one dead... and after all the overdoses that bastard has lived through, maybe he should be the one dead, instead of Dime.

I saw Pantera 4 times and each show was f***ing great... could've done without some of Phil's 20-30 minute rants, but I guess that gave the band ( and the fans ) some time to take a break , do a shot, smoke a fatty, etc. Although, when Phil ripped on Metallica for going soft and how Pantera was the new kings of metal, that was funny. I agree that Pantera were the kings of metal, but the sh** he said about Lars and James was GREAT ( and funny and true ) ! Long live Pantera and Dime... in our thoughts and in our sound systems !! Vinnie is putting the finishing touches on some unreleased Dime work and there is a David Allen Coe / Dime collaberation that is either already out or coming out soon !!!

i saw SJR a while back. Assholio told the audience that they were the worst he's ever played for. People were stunned. They were really getting into the show. I'll never pay for something that he's involved with again & there were quite a few people in that audience who felt the same way. Its a shame because we were enjoying the show up until then. Its also sad that he'll drag down his fellow musicians that play with him. Like a previous post said, he's good but he's nothing special. I'll pay to hear somone who appreciates the fact that I've spent my hard earned money to go see them live. Maybe David Allen Coe & CFH.

i think phil should put a gun to his face and blow it the f*** off, and invite everybody to sh** in his mangeld skull. behind the music on vh1 showed me what a useless f*** he is, and where im from every body hates his ass. the hate will grow and there is nothing phil can do about it, so pack it on in f***er, and give it up , cause you will always be in dimes shadow b****. R.I.P DIME
