According to Billboard.com, Volcano has set a May 2 North American release date for the new TOOL album, entitled "10,000 Days". The 77-minute, 11-song prog-metal odyssey, which is said to be "packed with plenty of eight minute-plus twisted riff-a-thons, odd-tempo polyrhythms and the band's trademark, eerie interludes" (according to Kerrang! magazine), is the follow-up to 2001's "Lateralus", which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 2.3 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
As previously reported, TOOL will play their first U.S. show since late 2002 when it headlines the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival on April 30 in Indio, Calif. No other U.S. dates have been confirmed.

f***ing tool!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is going to be incredible, as tool grows so does their music. personally don't care for undertow, but everything after.... GENIUS! hopefully tool visits chicago sometime during this year that is already packed with great tours, first, kreator/napalm death, then morbid angel, then arch enemy with hate eternal, then vader/graveworm, then slayer, then cannibal corpse and the sounds of the underground, and hopefully later, tool and obituary

The title...from what I've read so far is a reference to the Vietnam War. There is a popular book written about that conflict with the same title. An interesting choice...and while it may change...as has happened in the past...I think this one might be a safe bet...there have been lots of reports that this record will be more political (Danny Carey talked about the band being a creature of its environment...saying that he feels like the frustration and anger they felt after the end of the Reagan era has returned) so a reference to the Vietnam War when we are currently entangled in what some call the new Vietnam makes more sense than some of the bogus names that have been thrown out in the past. But in the end...this is TOOL...so we won't know until we have the record in our hands...whatever the title...the early reports of what this album might be have me a state of painful anticipation.

If anyone has seen the track listing and are familiar with Tools annual April fools gag, my guess is that on April fools day their going to give a new track listing and another title and possibly do it again before the release date, the joke will be that the title and album tracks given on April fools will be the real deal....
They f***ed witht the fans back when Lateralus was still on the drawing board and the whole Maynard finding Jesus thing last April....
I'm curious as to what they're going to do this year.
I'm more curious about the new albums sound than any song and album titles.

I have faith that this album will kick some serious a-hole. I just hope that it doesn't fall short on the promise of being the most agressive Tool album to date. Too many bands have fallen victim to such promises and find their albums to be littered with sappy balads and sloppy lyrics.

Even TOOL heh..ballads (H, Parabol, most of The Patient) have been brooding monsters that never treaded anywhere close to corny or cliche.....
I have a feeling that if TOOL promise some "Mesuggah moments" (they've never been a band to make comparisons of their own music to someones elses...so I imagine the similarities are more than passing) then we are in for a treat....
I don't know how heavy Maynards going to take his vocals....He flatout refused to play Ticks and Leeches live for nearly a year because the song blew his voice out for SIX WEEKS(!) when in the studio.
I've been listening to TOOL for more than half my life now (I'm 25) and every album is more impressive than the last while maintaining true to the greatness of the bands established sound.
This is one band who I trust not to let me down.

THIS IS TO Smegma: what da f*** r u talkin about?! maynard is great! hes da only raeson i like APC. his lyrics and voice alone are what make APC good. and as 4 TOOL, ever member are perfection artists. Danny Carey is my favorite drummer. adam jones is a great drummer, one dat can adapt to any sound. i liked how Paul D'amour played bass on OPIATE and UNDERTOW. he was f***in great! buit justin chancelor is great! he helped to make TOOLs sound all the more experimental..all the albums are perfect and very original....all of da akbums seem to just get better each time. ÆNIMA is my favorite TOOL studio album. SALIVAL is my favorite TOOL set of all. its my favorite songs to listen to(im listening 2 it now) L A T E R AL US was all da more perfect and experimental, but this ne one could b better, who knows

Tool fan forever. I hope to god this album is sick because it has been way to long. My fav song off Lateralus was The Patient but I hope that this album goes back to the harder, more consistant rythems of the past. For all of you who are new to the sounds of Maynard and friends, their best s*** comes when Keenan can yell. EX: Ticks and Leeches-Eulogy. Either way this better be greatness.

Its about f***ing time, Tool is finally coming out with a new album! Personally I think the album title and track listing are fake, but Im sure it will kick ass! Again I f***in love TOOL, Im going f***in crazy waiting for it to come out, I hope they do a U.S. Tour

I dunno about saying jones is top 10 guitarist, he fits tool perfectly, but there are a hell of a lot better guitarist. that being said i also want to comment on saying that i hope tool doesn't go back to there past work, i mean it was the sh**, don't get me wrong, but one of the reasons i like tool so much is the fact that every album they've made has been better and different than the one before it. I hope that the music continues to evolve and that the lyrics continue to give out mind f***s. I have also found that the album name is a fake, quote me on this, the album WillNot be called 10000 days.

what the f**k!
they're just perfect I hope Maynard don't sing more for APC.
I like some of these people and those bands out there have respect for music.everybody says tool is'nt perfect and maynard has no great voice He/She better go and listen to britney or ... .
I respect their musics ,musicvideo ,lyrics and themselves.

I don't see why so many people dont care for the name its just a title and if the name really bothers you then you must not really be into TOOL. the inticipation for the new album is almost unbearable but it should be well worth the wait. Musical geniuses such as Maynard will not let us down. especiall since the albums consecutavly get better. and i am hoping to hear them get back more into their metal roots and get the heads banging even harder

"I got some advice for you little buddy! before you point your finger you should know...."
dont like the title...??? dont like the track listing....???
what are you guys on???
the titles are linked to the songs, and you havent heard sh** yet!!
you can point that f*****g finger up your a**....
I cant wait. Im trying to clear myself of expectations. But Im dying to hear it!!

34. writes:
"10000 Days" sounds so damn goofy.....totally unlike tool....although the tracklisting is pretty believable the album name doesnt at all sound like tool.
Also the album cover thats out...it does not look original at all....remmeber the Pink Floyd album? I dont remmember which one...I think Division Bell....it is very similar to that

35. writes:
10000 Days... 27 Years and 139 Days (a day plus or minus)...
But maybe if we take a look at the Kabbalah... or something like that...
You know, I think that Maynard & Co. has a lot of fun with you guys, I mean, except few of you, you really don't know what are you talking about. You admire Tool, but you've probably never understood anything they say, because you're way of thinking is the one of a Britney fan.

Guess I should use spell check if I plan on send out f*** yous to babbleland, huh? Half of you posting comments can't spell worth a sh** anyway...................I do know f***ing with there fans is a good way for Tool to lose their fanbase.......RELEASE SOMETHING ALREADY YOU f***S!!!

Has anyone downloaded the "tracks" from 10,000 days off the net? Wtf? its fuked up so bad... haha its the funniest "music" ive eva heard....half the songs are purely instrumental and the other half r hawaiian sounding sh**....tool are definitely fuking with the media in this case... its all a fake....

post 41 - I don't think the Saturn interpretation is shallow at all, the shallow interpretation would be that the song is about grudges, the inner work of Saturn is the alchemical transformation of all one's baggage (Saturn represents lead) into a positive experience (the Sun represents gold). The alchemical thansformation of lead into gold is hardly what I would call shallow. Tool's lyrics tend to be multidimensional and I think every person can get something different from them.

49. writes:
post 42 - that's exactly what i meant, dude - the song's not about a flying chunk of rock in the sky, but about what it represents and connotates, and symbolises. ie when i said "look deeper". i mean, alchemical transformation, as you put it, is somewhat more well-read than the actual moon-cycle, isnt it.

just f***en wait and see what the album is called.... tool will always progress, but they have to reach there limit sometime. so i believe this might be tools last album, surely i hope it will beat lateralus, but lateralus seems so f***en hard to beat that album is to great... Hopfully tool will come to toronto. and i believe, i could be wrong but i think that tool only performed no quarter once and that was live in toronto at the warehouse.. w/e.. And to see danny carey do the 46 and 2 drum solo will be f***en nuts, that man is a machine.. peace out

I expect nothing short of an epic fan-f***ing-tastic album....I'm not too sure about the name of the thing but Tool have been known to change the name of their albums on their fans more than a couple times before release date.
May 2 can't come soon enough for me
