Hard Rock/Metal Musicians Remember Dimebag Darrell

MTV News spoke with members of some 30 hard rock and metal bands about the Dimebag they remember. They told MTV how much he'd meant to them, they shared fond memories and spoke of the impact he made on their lives and their music. Here are several excerpts from the article:
David Draiman - frontman, Disturbed: "During our second Ozzfest, we were holed up in Dallas for about two or three days ... hanging out at Dime's place — it was an eclectic house. There's all kinds of Pantera memorabilia and Dimebag memorabilia all over the place. But you could never make the mistake of falling asleep at Dime's. He'd wake you up the way he always did: with firecrackers. He'd always set off an entire chain of firecrackers not two inches from my head. One time ... Dime took us to a strip club where we all judged a bikini contest. There was never a wrong time in the day for Dime to hit a strip club. ... Dime was just this character who was very easy to love. He didn't have a bad bone in his body, and was ready to give you the shirt off his back at all times. It was his mission in life to make sure every single moment you spent with him was the best moment of your life. He was selfless."
Zakk Wylde - frontman, Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society: "Whenever you were around Dime, there was never a boring moment. He was the coolest guy on the planet. He was an even better person than he was a guitar player, if that's even possible. Whenever me and him would hook up, forget about it, bro. We'd always have to have a spare kidney, liver and pancreas on ice."
Brian Fair - frontman, Shadows Fall: "Dime seemed to have a real problem with the clock on our tour bus. It all started with his tour manager trying to tell him it was time to leave. ... We were having a good old time and Dime didn't want to go to bed. So, as soon as he was told it was time to leave, he grabbed the clock off of the wall and screams at the top of his lungs, 'There is no time!' and he smashed his hand right through it. The clock was made of glass and metal, and shrapnel flew everywhere. He went through three clocks on our bus like that. Anytime anyone tried to tell him it was time to go, he'd destroy the clock. He didn't want to end the party — he wanted it to keep going. We kept replacing the clock because we wanted to see what happened next."

That bit from Brian Fair is classic. I wish I could have seen that myself.
The story on Pantera in the new Revolver is pretty good, but lacked the kind of illustration of the characters that Pantera were on an individual and collective level....The bit about the "Hurl" game is great though.

first let me say that i, like everybody else, truly miss dime. it was so fun to live in the same city- rockin' out at the same concerts. NEVER did he seem to busy to stop and chat, because that is the type of guy he was. and as it has been said here, over and over- he was one of the nicest guys ever and with that being said, i have something to say to the few who are adding a very negative message to their postings.
(example: there were other horrible musicians that should of been shot, like 3 or 4 times- instead of dime). ok, some bad musicians only make music to make $$$, but i think i can honestly say that dime would never say that such a person deserves to die because of it. and if you are only joking about it, well it's a pretty crappy joke. somebody needlessly being murdered is a truely sad event- and causes alot of pain to their family.
i do agree that dime definatly did not deserve it, but nobody does- there is already enough hate in the world to go around, and you do not need to add to it in dimebag's memory. RIP DIME i know you are out there in the crowd rockin' out the the rest of us!!!

Beast.
I respect our troops beyond words, but they're not keeping OUR asses free, they're trying to allow the asses of Iraq's people to be a bit more free than they were 2 years ago....How that relates at all to Dime I'll never know.
Either way, I think one of these days I'm going to bust out some crown royal, and let my entire Pantera playlist go and just play(bass) along....Goddamn 1 year now.
RIP Dime, RIP Pantera RIP Damage Plan.
Viva la metal

Korn remebering Dimebag?
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH!!!!!!
How about this:
Dimebag magically ressurects himslef up from the grave (AS A FLESH EATING ZOMBIE) to kick the s-hit out of Korn for mentioning his kickass name.....
And he dismembers Fieldy...BRUTALLY....BY EATING HIS BRAINS AND HIS HEART...
SO SAYS LORD AGONY....

Agony man shut it.
This thread has unofficialy become a Dimebag tribute page and it is truly fu cked up to bring more
negitivity to this page.
Deathmetal fans, nu metal fans, hardcore fans, and so on disagree on a lot of sh** but i can garentee
you that the majority of fans of each rock genra and sub genra have respect for dimebag your self
included.
So this is'nt the time or the place to make your increadibly lame jokes.
Show some respect.
And yo begotten stop useing my phrase "shut it".

I hate to burst anyone bubble but Korn and Pantera were actually friends.... Pantera were completely welcoming to every band they ever toured with, and every band they ever toured with were completely in awe of Panteras skill and down to earth kindness....This includes Korn who (also known for their ability to drink) would get obliterated after shows on each others buses

Hate to break it to ya but it's true PANTERA & KORN were notoriously good friend's.I'm not the biggest KORN fan in the world especially not lately however this is about THE LATE GREAT DIMEBAG DARRELL ABBOTT.Someone whose level of ability and style of play we have not really seen before and may never ever see after much like RANDY ROADS & JIMMY HENDRIX before that. This is not the place for bashing KORN leave that sh** on the other feed's.

33. writes:
La, (in response to post #21) if you have any respect and love for "the late great dimebag darrel abbott" perhaps you should take a page from his book and learn to respect and love all fellowkind the way Dime did, including korn and their fans. actually, that goes for everyone, not just (though especially) for La.
viva la Dimebag's way of life.
