Munky Comments On Head's Departure From Korn

Korn fan site Korn Unleashed has published the second part of their recent interview with Korn guitarist James 'Munky' Shaffer, where he was asked about the departure of Brian 'Head' Welch and how they'll handle performing live without him. "We will hire someone to play in the back (guitar) and David [Silveria, drums] will trigger some samples," Munky said. Asked who they planned on bringing in for the second guitar slot, Shaffer responded, "Someone close to us already...not just some stanger. There's not gonna be some big auditions or anything."

i dont know about all that. what i do know is that other bands might be alot less popular because lots of 'young' metal fans, i guess young being 12-30 years old, got their start with bands like korn and limp bizkit. then moved on to heavier/better bands like tool, mudvayne, slipknot and dug a little deeper maybe got into pantera, down, shadows fall, lamb of god and so on. thats how it works most of the time. Like for me i went from metallica megadeth and korn to mudvayne soad and slipknot, now i like mastodon unearth and opeth and lots of others.

I've played in a band, and play guitar (many live covers of walk or mouth for war in my old band, god we sucked but we tried) and there was a dynamic and style that pantera had that slipknot can never match. plus pantera had a very timeless feel to them. slipknot does have an astonishing drummer. lots of talent behind the kit in that band yeah i know theres 2 percussion guys but you can seperate them easily enough. somewhat less everywhere else. i think it's a taste thing personally and my taste slightly favors pantera. what pantera have that slipknot will probably never have is a 'legend' status. which puts them way out front to slipknot.

Yeah, it feels like you're missing a limb. Hair weighs alot, after that first haircut, your head feels like it's floating after all the weight from the hair is gone.

I have my sides and the back skin level. I let my mom cut it[cheaper than paying ten bucks for a buzz]. She always hits my hair line and i lose alot of long hair and freak out. I'm tring to get a job but like Deadmetal said most people want your hair to be short if your male, I don't think I'll cut it for a job. Unless I'm making 10 a hour no f***ing way!

The tips( from when i was in highschool and it was spikey) were almost white and as it got closer to the roots it went to dirty blonde to dark brown.
I have to get my drivers license updated today and now my hairs long bangs and medium everywhere else. Solid black. First time my hairs been natural color in almost 10 years.
When i was a kid (birth-15) my hair was a light brown then i dyed it like crazy and now it's black.
My friends say it reflects my soul. funny, but maybe it's accurate.

I think ol' Manson needs to take a good 5 years and put out something worth hearing, that last record will go down as one of the most tremendous flops in the history of goth/glam-industrial-rock/metal...f***ing joke is what it was. Only 2 or 3 songs worth hearing.
While adventurous, it was also his worst album lyrically (way too simple, obvious rhyme schemes, and limited every-man vocabulary and themes) and Mansons not a genius but he is'smart'. He implemented the whole pre-world war Germany style, which was a cool angle but it just didnt take. And letting go of Twiggy (or driving him away) was a sign of Mansons collapse. Bringing KMFDM stalwart Tim Skold to the mix offered little in the way of innovation. And then the biggest boo boo...giving John 5 the boot, easily Mansons most gifted guitarist.

Reason why I like Korn.
I like Korn because, first off ,as you already know, I relate to many of their songs such as Pretty,Dead Bodies Every Where, Clown, Kill U, No Ones There, and many others. Also because, Korn provide a image that i enjoy, dreadlocks, trashy clothing, tatoos, track suits,etc. Korn gave me music that makes life enjoyable, and deal with the demons in my life that drag me down with each album. Korn have always been there for the ''children'' first. Didn't care what others saw of theim besides those who listen to their music. They have signature bass and guitar. One of the best vocalest of all time, and I say this not as the ''Korntard'' you all see me. They made hip-hop fun with the Deftones, Ice-Cube, Nas, ect. Korn made it ok to be a skinny kid with nothing to great about theimselves. Helped me release anger as well as my already mentioned ''demons''. In my eyes at least, they helped save metal and gave it somethen fresh. As we all know many have tried to copy their style[s]. They helped other bands to startem without putting their names in the picture, so that says alot about theim. Their funny. Finally, they gave me the dream. Without the help from JD,Munkey,Fieldy,and David[I never did like Head 2 Christ], I never would have atemped to be a vocalest. Never would I have wrote songs or have that other outlet to my issues, started a band, or any of that sh**. All in all their talented and amazing people. To me.
Now a short summary of each album and how it got better.
''KoRn''- The begining stages of something evil in it's own way. Great rifts all around from Head,Munk,Davis,and Fieldy. A new sound of anger and pain. Never before heard vocal style. Lryics that could eat through the Titanic. Faggit, Clown, Daddy, Divine, Helmut in a Bush, Ball Tongue.

''Follow the LeAdeR''- A more radio friendly c-d, sad but true. Plus sides it opened up Korn's heart with songs such as Pretty,My Gift to You,Dead Bodies Every Where. And not to mention Korn heard of the tragic death of one KornKid named Justin and wrote a song in his memerory with his name, for a title. Also exsposed more humor of the band with Ear Ache My Eye.
''Issues''- We all have issues. With this album ,Korn once again showed their apperation of the fans and had the ''Korn Kover Kontest''. Also we were exsposed once again to new never before heard sound[s]. Better guitar work, and drums that matched JD voice better. A more agressive sound that was somehow suthing to the ears. Hard to pull off, but they did it.
''Untouchables''- Korn all grown up p***ed off, and slighty bent with life in general. Here we got some of their heavyest work, and something never thought possiable........melody. As well as Johnathon opened up unlike anything before. Not to metion ''Beat Up Right'' the name alone is wrong Their best work to many. The deepest to me.
''Take A LoOk in the MiRRoR''- ANGER!!! Hard sh** all around, a great album worth the wait. Rip you to pieces music, self produced, best growles ever from a nu-metal band.
.............so yeah, I'm dedicated, I'm a ''Korntard, kill me if you dare, but I'm here to stay with Korn in my Korner. f*** YOU ALL!

Very, very well put together. I dont agree with some of your points (the album by album summaries) but they are still heartfelt and thoughtout.
I can now say that I understand why you hold korn with such high regard.
Ladies and gentlemen the first legitimate and dare i say articulate.......if a bit wordy, arguement on the behalf of korn.
It really is too bad korn don't have more fans like johnisgod because this is far and away the best effort any korn fan has put forth in defending the band.
