Varg Announces First Live Album
Varg gather their followers around them and call for a joint ritual: on May 22, 2026, the pagan metal band will share the recording of a special evening with their first live album, "Live At Wolfszeit Festival 2024." Recorded at the group’s very own festival, it contains thrilling live versions of 16 tracks. "Live at Wolfszeit Festival 2024" invites you to be part of the home match both as an audio and a video recording in Blu-ray format. Filmed with 13 cameras, this live experience unfolds particularly well-rounded, from instrument details to the enthusiastic crowd.
Along with the announcement of the epic recording, Varg release their first single. "Immer Treu" was originally released on their most recent studio album, "Ewige Wacht" (2023), which secured the band their biggest chart success to date. With this song, Varg show their closeness to their fans and cement their connection to the scene—after all, the band has been at the forefront of German pagan metal for years. The new version of "Immer Treu" shows Varg at the peak of their creative powers, with clear production, a rousing show, and an unbroken spirit.
Varg on "Immer Treu":
"‘Immer Treu’ is more than a song—it’s an oath between us and our fans. When hundreds of voices sing the lines back to you in a live setting, it creates a moment that gets under one’s skin. That’s exactly the power that we wanted to convey with our first single off of this album." More...
Varg Drops "Eisenseite" Music Video
Varg, Germany’s top-notch pagan metal force, returns stronger than ever on their new album, entitled "Ewige Wacht" (Engl. Eternal Vigil), to be released on October 13, 2023 via Napalm Records. Today, the wolves prove their standing as a firmly rooted, leading entity in the scene once more by unleashing the brand-new single "Eisenseite," cut from the new offering. After dropping the first single, "Immer Treu," "Eisenseite" is another powerful hymn that showcases how much singer Fylgja has been involved in the full album this time. Her valkyrie-like singing expands the band's sonic spectrum and forms a perfectly harmonizing contrast to Freki's razor-sharp screams and growls.
Accompanied by a matching music video, the song transports Nordic mythology as well as values like honesty and loyalty, which also symbolizes the album as a whole.
Varg on "Eisenseite":
"A hymn to bravery and the determination to fight for what is important to you, even when it seems hopeless. It is not our blood that ennobles us, it is our soul, the way we live our lives towards others and our attitude that makes us honourable and great." More...
Varg To Release New Album "Ewige Wacht" In October
Varg Germany’s top-notch pagan metal force, returns stronger than ever on their new album, entitled "Ewige Wacht" (Engl. Eternal Vigil), to be released on October 13, 2023 via Napalm Records. With their last and most successful record to date, "Zeichen" (Engl. Signs, 2020, #16 in the German album charts), Varg put the thematic and musical focus completely on their pagan roots. On their brand new brainchild, the wolves follow this path unwaveringly, honestly, authentically and raw, and impressively manifest their reincarnation and matchless standing on top of the scene!
The eighth studio album transports Nordic mythology as well as values like honesty and loyalty. Varg once again shows themselves to be an invincible unit, as the first single and opening track "Immer Treu" (Engl. Always Faithful) already is proof of. Upon very first listen, it becomes apparent how involved singer Fylgja has been in the full album process this time around. Her valkyrie-like singing expands the band's sonic spectrum and forms a perfectly harmonizing contrast to Freki's razor-sharp screams and growls.
Fylgja on "Immer Treu":
"’Immer Treu’ is a song that stands for many things. For fortitude, strength and loyalty. But it also underlines that hate, based on different views like for example in terms of religion, is absolutely bad and senseless. In the end we are all the same and should accept and respect each other. It stands for the freedom to be what we want to be." More...
Varg Uploads New Music Video
Today, the wolves of Varg are once again howling the origins of true Pagan Metal, continuing their story of the legendary Viking era. The band has unveiled the third single, "Fara Til Ránar", from their upcoming full-length, "Zeichen" (engl. signs) , to be released on September 18 via Napalm Records.
"Fara Til Ránar” starts off with a captivating chorus, offering a new facet of Varg: The additional vigorous female vocals by Fylgja mirror a perfectly-fitting contrast to Freki’s shattering screams. The third single is a mournful metal ballad featuring the melancholic, captivating saga of the Nordic goddess of the sea, Rán, who uses her net to pull wandering sailors down into her watery grave. The wolves' third audio-visual creates a mystical surrounding in the trademark VARG style, but also includes some additional atmospheric elements.
Singer Freki about the single:
"To us, 'Fára Til Ránar' is one of the songs that represent the 'new' Varg the best way. All eyes here are definitely on Fylgja, our official new band member. She has already appeared on Wolfszeit II, took part as a singer on our last tour and made a huge impact on our development and direction. It felt absolutely right and just like a natural process to officially welcome her into the band. In "Fara Til Ránar" her singing embodies the tempting calls of the sea goddess Rán. With every note, you can feel our heart and soul as well as common dedication for our music. We’ve finally arrived, and "Fara Til Ránar" and Zeichen as a whole are the best proof for that." More...
Varg Releases New Music Video
Today, the wolves of Varg release their second pagan metal single "Auf die Götter" (Engl. To The Gods), cut from the upcoming full-length, "Zeichen," to be released on September 18 via Napalm Records. Along with an artful conceptualized official music video, the track relates to the Viking era and the tradition of worshipping miscellaneous gods, but also to the band’s past.
Shot in an ancient druid grove, the audio-visual embeds the music into the perfect surrounding and atmosphere. Freki’s cutting vocals merge with powerful guitar riffs and a melody that gets stuck in your head! Varg has never forgotten their pagan metal roots and this track marks their pure heritage as they return with full musical power!
Singer Freki states:
"We decided to release 'Auf die Götter' (Engl. To The Gods) as the second single, because it helps our fans to dive deeper into the concept of our new album 'Zeichen' (Engl. signs). Before Christianisation, the Nordic mythology had a dominant impact on Viking culture. Gods as Odin, Thor, Loki and Freya embodied the center of belief. 'Auf die Götter' refers to this ancient belief and to the traditions within." More...

The wolves of Varg return to their roots with their seventh full-length album, "Zeichen" (translated: Signs), to be released on September 18th via Napalm Records. The album marks a new era of the wolves haunted by wild battles, death and bloodlust - a resurrection from the fields of Pagan Metal, pairing razor-sharp melodic death riffs with Freki's furious vocals. Forget anything you have seen or heard about them in the past few years and embrace the new album as a reboot of a band that never ceased to evolve and has gotten rid of everything superfluous.
Varg sets an uncompromising sign with first monumental single "Zeichen", which comes along with an official video and introduces the concept behind their upcoming offering. Visually and lyrically, their first single draws the listener deep into the Viking era, picturing their traditions, a strong community cohesion, ancient runes, the old gods and their beliefs. The chorus gets stuck in your head, coalesces with the blasting power of riffs and perfectly showcases the reincarnation of Varg. "Zeichen" is the ultimate hymn heralding the age of the wolves.
Singer Freki states: "'Zeichen' is the heart of our new album, maybe even of the 'new' Varg. It was important to us to release the title song first along with an official music video, since it reflects the energy of our new full-length both musically and visually, and invites our fans to the legendary era of the Vikings. Follow us on a journey!" More...

Varg Premieres New Music Video
German blackened death metal warriors Varg have premiered the music video title track from the forthcoming new release "Das Ende aller Lügen," which drops on January 15th via Napalm Records. Pre-order the album at this location.
Already the opener, which will be an established monument of the German’s live set within a very short time, presents Varg’s new direction: The political leaders of the world exposed as false prophets and seducers, Varg invokes the united resistance. Uncompromisingly, the herd chants together as a solid, massive structure to conjure up the “Revolution” – a track that not only pushes forward with both anthemic and martial character, but also encourages revelry, a sound that carries throughout the entire album.
Although Varg are more monstrous than ever, “Das Ende aller Lügen” is perhaps one of the best examples that the calm always comes before the storm, how the calming moments that tend to emphasize the coming thunder and accentuate it. This concept is perfectly executed in “Achtung” and “Dunkelheit”, which are rumbling monsterous epics that somehow surprise you with their very menacing and grim undertones. “Streyfzug” is solemn, and even tenuto in some places, with an almost hymn-like melancholy, while “Totentanz” with its seductive two-part vocal harmonies are reminiscent of the mating calls of the “Erlkönig” – and inevitably lead down to everything that creeps, deep down into the musty earth. The proud “Einherjer”, who had to fight his way through clinking-harsh “Wintersturm” and acrid “Ascheregen” knows what he is talking about …
With their fifth album, Varg prove that offense is often the best defense – and how impulsivity and unpredictability always makes the best generals. In this battle you will need the best and only the best, those who surreptitiously allure one into the trap, but are also open minded for the frontal attack. In this battle you need the brute force that is called Varg, and this force alone.
The track list for "Das Ende aller Lügen" is:
1. Der große Diktator
2. Das Ende aller Lügen
3. Revolution
4. Streyfzug
5. Achtung
6. Dunkelheit
7. Totentanz
8. Einherjer
9. Wintersturm
10. Ascheregen

Varg Premieres New Music Video "Rotkäppchen 2015"
On the 2011 album "Wolfskult," the Bavarian wolf brigade known as Varg set right the rumors Brothers Grimm maliciously spread regarding Little Red Riding Hood. Contrary to the fairy tales, it was actually the wolf who was innocent, seduced by the petite wolf in sheep’s clothing, Little Red Riding Hood, and even pawned off the murder of her grandmother on him, like some poor sacrificial lamb. Its no wonder that in this explosive literary history and anthemic musical piece quickly became one of the band's crowd favorites, compelling the band to lift “Rotkäppchen” onto a podium and pay it the attention it has so long deserved.
The same could be said of the new EP, which should not be overlooked as only a segue to the upcoming full length album “Das Ende aller Lügen." "Rotkäppchen" is a gem on its own. It is a magical interlude, which has some treasures hidden between his precious DIN A5-pages: between the classic version from 2011 and an instrumental karaoke-version you’ll find a version both in English (feat Christopher Bows of Alestorm) and Norwegian (feat Trollfest), as well as a recent re-recording that, like on the original, features Anna Murphy of Eluveitie. The EP includes two brand-new songs “Ein Tag Wie Heute” (featuring Dom R. Crey of Equilibrium) and “Abendrot”, which won’t be found on “Das Ende aller Lügen”.
The EP drops on October 9th via Napalm Records. Metal Underground.com is proud to bring you the premiere of the new music video for "Rotkäppchen 2015" here: More...

Varg Announces Shows With Wolfchant
Varg will soon be hitting the road with Wolfchant and Nachblut, with dates available after the jump. Noiseart Records also comments:
"Since their founding in 2005, German pagan / viking metal mongers VARG have continuously worked on the perfection of their unique style: the debut Wolfszeit (2007) and the following split EP Schildfront (2008) still boasted black metal influences, whilst Blutaar (2010) and all releases afterwards established ultra-catchy heathen anthems as the main trademark of the wolf pack! Their most recent aural assault Guten Tag (2012) presents the band in finest form that gives the competition a run for their money with hits that defy the genre`s boundaries. The album entered the German album charts at # 25 and brought Varg the well-deserved final breakthrough!
"The best way to indulge in the Guten Tag songs and other classic cuts??? Live on stage of course, with a well-filled drinking horn and hundreds of other fan wolves singing along! Which is why Varg have decided to bring 'blood and fire' to you in October… More...
