Ozzfest 2008 Deemed A Success By Organizers

Billboard.com reports: Ozzfest 2008, with Metallica and Ozzy Osbourne as headliners, grossed nearly $3.5 million and drew close to 30,000 people to Dallas' Pizza Hut Park, according to producers Sharon Osbourne and AEG Live.

Sponsored by Affliction Clothing, this year's Ozzfest marked the return of the 13-year-old hard music brand after a free run at amphitheaters last year. This year's one-off event did "fantastically well," Sharon Osbourne told Billboard.com. "The one thing is you want for the kids to go away and keep talking about what a great show it was, and that's what they're doing."

In addition to Metallica and Osbourne, mainstage acts were Serj Tankian, Hellyeah, Johnathan Davis, Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica, and In This Moment. The second stage featured Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. On the third stage were the Sword, Drowning Pool, Rigor Mortis, Within Chaos, The Destro and "battle of the bands" winners Debris and Black Tooth.

Osbourne says plans are for Ozzfest to return to Dallas again next summer, likely as a two-day festival, and other cities are also being considered. "Ozzfest ain't going anywhere," she says. "We do try and shake things up and experiment. We're not the old donkey that plods on doing the same sh*t."

Sevendust Guitarist Checks In

Recently rejoined Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery has issued the following long tour report:

"Wow!!! We just got back from our trip over to Germany, Qatar and Afghanistan entertaining the troops, which truthfully they entertained the hell out of us.

"First off, we're coming off a two-day transit that started in Afghanistan that ended here in Atlanta for most of us and to say that the flights were long and delayed would be an understatement. I'm still in that dream state from lack of sleep. Between the time changes, different flights etc. it's gonna be a few days before we pull it together and by the time we do we leave again to go back out which is par for the course for Sevendust.

"I'm still processing everything we just went through over there so I'll do my best to give you guys a preview of everything. More...

Sevendust Explains Rockstar Mayhem Cancellation

Sevendust members Morgan Rose and Lajon Witherspoon have been interviewed for next months issue of Revolver magazine. In it, Rose explains why the band were unable to perform at the tour.

"We would've loved to be on that tour, but plain and simple, we couldn't afford to do it. I'm not going to say how much money we were offered, but at the end of the day the numbers didn't make any sense. It was like, 'If we borrow MACHINE HEAD's gear for every show, ride in a car with no crew guys, and don't bring any suitcases because they won't fit in the car anyway, we may be able to pay our bills at the end of this. But probably not.' So that was the bottom line. We would've lost our houses. And I'm not letting my kid and my wife live on the street just so I can go do some shows."

"I don't want to sit here and say, 'If they had given us more money, we would've been able to do it,' but that's the damn ticket right there!" said Witherspoon. "If they had given us more money, we would have been able to do it."

The band will be embarking on a tour with Saliva this summer.

Ozzfest 2008 Confirmed As One-Day Event

OZZFEST--the original and iconic hard rock festival--returns in 2008 as a one-day stadium spectacular on Saturday, August 9 in Dallas, Texas that teams OZZFEST founder and namesake Ozzy Osbourne (in his only U.S. concert appearance this summer) with Metallica (marking their OZZFEST debut).

Produced by Sharon Osbourne and AEG LIVE, the all-day festival at Pizza Hut Park in hard music-loving Dallas will feature three stages of non-stop talent (with many OZZFEST alumni) and reliably twisted OZZFEST side attractions.

The full main stage lineup will also spotlight performances by Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Hellyeah, Jonathan Davis (Korn), Cavalera Conspiracy, Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica and In This Moment. Also scheduled on the main stage is a special all-star tribute to slain Pantera guitarist ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott. Second stage acts include Sevendust, Devildriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. The Texas (third) stage—“an homage to the “many great metal bands that come from Texas,” says Sharon Osbourne--features The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis.

“Ozzy just finished an 11-month world tour so I think he deserves a summer off,” Sharon says about this year’s one-day OZZFEST. “We’re going to be a stadium destination festival for now--we have gone past doing the sheds every summer. We’ve given everyone else the blueprint and we have to keep evolving OZZFEST. This is just the beginning; AEG Live and I have a lot of new ideas for OZZFEST."

This year’s dynamic line-up encompasses artists who’ve played OZZFEST before in different incarnations such as Serj Tankian (System of a Down); Jonathan Davis (Korn); Hellyeah’s Vinnie Paul (Pantera) and Chad Gray (Mudvayne); Kingdom of Sorrow’s Jamie Jasta (Hatebreed) and Kirk Windstein (Down); and Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Sepultura) of Cavalara Conspiracy. Other OZZFEST graduates include Shadows Fall, Sevendust, Devildriver, Drowning Pool and In This Moment.

“Ozzy has great relationships with all of the bands that have played OZZFEST,” says Sharon. “We’re the only real festival for harder edge bands and these artists have been very loyal to us--there is lots of love on this line-up."

Clint Lowery Speaks On Returning To Sevendust

Recently rejoined Sevendust guitarist Clint Lowery (also of Dark New Day and ex touring guitarist for Korn), has issued the following statement regarding his return to Sevendust:

"As most of you know I have rejoined with my bros. in Sevendust. I’m beyond excited about sharing the stage with them and being apart of their world again. First things first, Sonny (Mayo) did an unreal job with the guys and I’m sure I will share some of the pressures of filling his shoes as he did so sucessfully filling mine and then some. I respect Sonny and love him and wish him the best because I have no doubt he will continue success in whatever he does.

"I won’t get into how this all came about, I will only speak for myself. For me this is a great chance to play with a band I owe my career to and went through everything with for many years good and bad. When you spend that amount of time in a band you form a bond that’s not easily broken. Time has past and I believe nothing in God's world happens by mistake.

"I’d like to address the fans of both Sevendust and Dark New Day. You have all truly been so amazing and really make me remember why I do this. For some this will be hard to understand. All I can say is that I will do my best to be a solid member of Sevendust and give you back what you give to any of us who play music. My brother (Corey Lowery) dreamt up what would eventually become Dark New Day. We wanted to play together and to do that with Troy, Brett and Will was a dream come true. I truly believe that we did what we set out to do and that was simply to make music together. Corey and I will always continue to make music together. I wish all the guys the best and love them more than words can say. And I pray that the record we did will see the light of day especially for the people who waited so patiently.

"Being back in Sevendust is truly a very exciting time for me and I feel like it will be a very positive thing. I love the records they did while I was gone and actually look forward to playing those songs more than the ones I did with them. I look forward to writing new music with them. But for now I want to do my part in supporting the incredible music they’ve created and just be the guitar player. Sevendust is way bigger than any one person, it has a supporting fan base that's rabid and I love all of you because I have been one of you for the past few years. Just another person who loved Sevendust from the outside. Now I’m back in and I promise I will bust my ass to do the job Sevendust deserves.

"God Bless everyone and see ya on tour!
Clint Lowery"

Clint Lowery Rejoins Sevendust

SEVENDUST has announced the return of original guitar player Clint Lowery to the band.

Lowery was with Sevendust when they formed in 1995 and signed to TVT Records in 1997. Lowery was a key member of the Sevendust attack throughout the their TVT years which saw the band release "Sevendust" (1997), "Home" (1999), "Animosity" (2001), "Seasons" (2003) and "Southside Double Wide" (2003).

After leaving TVT in 2003 the band and Lowery mutually parted ways, with Lowery moving on to join his brother in the band DARK NEW DAY. Sevendust brought in former SNOT guitar player Sonny Mayo to replace Lowery and went on to release three full length albums. Next (2004) on the now defunct Winedark Records, Alpha (2007) on 7Bros. Records, Sevendust's wholly owned label through Warner Music Group's Independent Label Group and "Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow," which comes out April 1st on 7Bros/Asylum.

Sevendust statements on Lowery's return: "This was extremely tough considering Sonny is our brother and has been amazing to work with. He didn't do anything wrong at all, we just owe it to ourselves and all the folks that grew up with us to put our original band back together. Clint has always been our brother and Sonny will always remain our brother as well. We are sorry to say goodbye to Sonny and I'm sure this will be tough on the fans that follow him, but we're excited about reuniting the original lineup of Sevendust." - Morgan Rose, Drums

"Everything happens for a reason. Sonny is an incredible person and we thank him for everything. Just like when you leave home, you come back! Hopefully everyone will understand the decision we have made. God bless you all. Welcome home Clint Lowery." - LaJon Witherspoon, Vocals

Sevendust's new record, "Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow," is out on Tuesday, April 1st. The album was produced by Shawn Grove, Morgan Rose & John Connolly in Atlanta, GA at Tree Sounds Studios.

The album features guest appearances from vocalist CHRIS DAUGHTRY, as well as Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy from ALTER BRIDGE. The band will be hitting the road in April in support of "Chapter VII: Hope & Sorrow."
