Los Angeles psychedelic prog-rock band Ancestors will release its new album "In Dreams and Time" on April 10 via Tee Pee Records. Recorded in east LA's Infrasonic Sound (Queens of the Stone Age, Best Coast, Xasthur), the record showcases the band's most accomplished music to date and a creative sound that morphs from thunderous cacophony to soul-searching peaks and valleys as towering riffs collide with bleak beauty and deep wells of light and dark. Ancestors has posted the cover artwork online for the band's upcoming EP "Invisible White," which can be viewed after the jump. The band also commented on the EP:
"A lot has happened since our last blog. Namely, we spent about 12 days in the studio recording an EP of brand new tunes, which we're calling Invisible White, which sees a release on June 21st on Tee Pee Records. Although it's technically the follow up to Of Sound Mind, it's very much a departure from what you heard on that album. It's still Ancestors, but it's something new for us and it's something we had wanted to do for a while. It also marks the debut of our newest member Matt Barks on Moog and modular synthesizers.
"With the addition of a new band member, we knew it would be a while before we were able to get the next full length out, so we decided that now was a good time to do a one-off project like this. We went into the studio with rough acoustic skeletons of the songs written and essentially let the songs chart their own course. It was a really different approach for us, as we normally go into the studio knowing exactly what is going to happen.
"Invisible White was masterfully produced and engineered by Kenny Woods at Los Angeles' Bright Street Recorders (Lykee Li, Sia, Grant Lee Phillips) on his 20 channel mixing desk, which was formerly owned by James Brown. As usual, we've got some friends who joined us on the record with us as well.?? The track listing for Ancestors' Invisible White is as follows:
1. Invisible White (7:22)
2. Dust (7:40)
3. Epilogue (14:07) More...
Ancestors has issued the following announcement about canceling the band's previously scheduled Hellfest appearance and update about working on a new EP:
"For the bad news first: Unfortunately, we had to cancel our appearance at Hellfest 2011 due to complications arising with the tour we were planning around it. We are incredible saddened by this development. However, we have every intent to get out to Europe later this year and hopefully we'll be able to do Hellfest next year. It was truly an honor to have even been asked.
"The good news: On June 21, 2011 we will be releasing an EP entitled Invisible White on Tee Pee Records. The EP contains three songs and is a bit of a departure from what people are used to hearing from us. However, fear not, because we are well into the writing process for our next LP, which will sound more like the Ancestors you're familiar with. That being said, we are very happy with the EP and we're excited to let people hear another side of the band. More news to come about the EP soon..."
