Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of Froese's, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes, was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound, which sounds like the shrieking vocal assault of Rob Halford, the epic guitars and storytelling of Iron Maiden, the pirate theme of Running Wild, and the lasting influence of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Although the group had little distribution for the record, they did share the same U.K. label as The Darkness, who at the time were on their way to becoming the UK's latest rock sensation. When 3 Inches went overseas, they hooked up with The Darkness for a UK tour. The tour was a smash success. Due to this bubbling under at the press level, Roadrunner Records took notice of the group's demo, and signed the band in 2004.

3 Inches began work on "Advance and Vanquish," determined to make it a "classic" metal album. Musically, the band has expanded on their classic metal roots, developing into one of the tightest hard rock bands of modern times.

The band is currently rehearsing with a stand-in drummer to enable them to still play their London show tonight (Monday, November 12) at the Barfly.

Shadows Fall Announces Two Tour Changes

Shadows Fall has announced two date changes on the upcoming Operation Annihilation tour, a co-headlining trek with Static X also featuring 3 Inches of Blood and Divine Heresy. The two dates both concern House of Blues venues positioned on property owned by the Walt Disney company.

The October 20 date to take place at House of Blues in Orlando, FL has been cancelled, and the October 31 date has moved from the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA to the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana, CA.

Shadows Fall frontman, Brian Fair, recently posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:

"Well my friends, it is sad to say but it looks like Mickey can't handle the metal. We have been informed that the Disney company has decided to cancel all metal shows taking place at the House Of Blues on Disney property in both Anaheim CA. and Orlando FL. I for one am surprised that Disney isn't down with the metal. After all, what is more metal than freezing the decapitated head of your founder and having secret security death squads lurking beneath the underworld of an amusement park? This is a huge disappointment for us as we have always had amazing sold out shows at both clubs. We will be moving the Anaheim show to the Galaxy in Santa Ana, and cancelling the Orlando date completely. In the meantime try and synch up your copies of Reign In Blood with any animated Disney classic. Maybe the combination with re-animate old Walt from his cryogenic state and have him get metal back in these clubs!!!"

Ticketholders to the Orlando, FL show will be eligible for refunds. Plans are in the works for a new show in Orlando at another location. Stay tuned for details. Tickets for the October 31 Anaheim, CA show will now be honored at the new venue in Santa Ana.

Roadrunner Petitioned To Change 3 Inches Of Blood

Ladd Everitt, editor of Transcending the Mundane, recently posted an open letter/petition to Roadrunner Records on the subject of 3 Inches of Blood.

The open letter begins, "We, the undersigned, hereby request that the name of Roadrunner Records artist 3 Inches of Blood be changed, effective immediately, to '6 Inches of Blood.'

We believe this proposal to be a modest and reasonable one for the following reasons:

1) Because three inches of blood hardly crests the ankle of a man of average height, and surely the blood has risen higher given the band’s many famous victories in battle against both Orc armies and Goatrider hordes."

3 Inches of Blood to Perform Without 1 Vocalist

3 Inches of Blood have issued the following statement:

“As we start the Ozzfest tour, we are unfortunately one member short. Jamie Hooper has been experiencing problems with his voice and thus his ability to sing. Under the recommendation of doctors, Jamie has been advised not to perform until his voice has healed. As a result, Jamie will not be appearing with us on Ozzfest. Justin Hagberg will be pulling double duty, playing guitar and singing most of Jamie’s parts. We hope Jamie’s recovery is as painless as possible and is back in the fold by the fall.”

Ozzfest 2007 VIP Ticket Plan Revealed

It was announced months ago that tickets for this summer's Ozzfest would be free to fans, and that the longest-running heavy metal festival would subsist on corporate sponsorships and little else.

But obtaining those free tickets for one of the dates on this year's run — which kicks off July 12 in Auburn, Washington, and continues through August 30 in West Palm Beach, Florida — might just give some metal fans a migraine.

First, you have to send an e-mail requesting tickets, and then wait for a confirmation e-mail containing a link to the Web site of one of the tour's various sponsors. Next, you have to wait until June 12 before you can enter that code on some other Web site to redeem two tickets to whichever date you'd like to attend. It's a whole rigmarole that some fans — or, more specifically, those willing to drop some serious scratch — can avoid.

That's right, folks — while this summer's Live Nation-sponsored Ozzfest will be free to most, some will fork over upward of $1,000 to get in. As in years past, Ozzfest's organizers will offer fans a number of VIP ticket packages for purchase, which will ensure them a seat for all the headbangin' action.

The festival's "Party Like a Rockstar" package — which includes preferred pavilion seating, access to the second-stage VIP viewing platform behind the mixing boards, access to the general VIP area, a behind-the-scenes tour and a special host "to help you rock harder than you have ever rocked before" — returns this summer, and will set you back $300. There's also the "I'm Part of the Show" package, which costs $666 and includes all the same perks, in addition to a seat on the Ozzfest stage during Osbourne's concert-closing set.

There's also the "Platinum" package, which will be available by auction in the not-so-distant future. The starting bid will be $1,000 and will be limited to only 10 guests per show. This offer includes everything the "I'm Part of the Show" package does, and then some. Fans who win the auction will also get a personal meeting with Osbourne and his band, along with a certificate signed by Sharon Osbourne. The proceeds of these tickets will go to the Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Program at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

The festival's 12th annual installment boasts a bill including Ozzy Osbourne, 3 Inches Of Blood, Ankla, Behemoth, Chthonic, Circus Diablo, Daath, Hatebreed, In This Moment, Lamb of God, Lordi, Mondo Generator, Nile, Static-X and The Showdown.

The 24-city 12th annual OZZFEST will launch July 12 in Seattle, WA at the White River Amphitheatre. Here are the tour dates: More...

3IoB Talk About New Album, Black Metal Influences

TheNewsTribune.com reports: Most of the members of the metal band 3 Inches of Blood have moved back to their home turf in Vancouver, B.C., after spending time in Tacoma last year writing songs for their new CD “Fire Up the Blades.”

That album – which will reportedly be a lot lighter on Dungeons & Dragons imagery than 2004’s “Advance and Vanquish” – is due from Roadrunner Records next month. And Saturday’s performances at Hell’s Kitchen will be a homecoming of sorts, with lots more to celebrate, including a gig on this summer’s Ozzfest tour.

So we caught up with screamer Jamie Hooper to get the skinny.

You hooked up with Joey Jordison from Slipknot for this album.

Yep, he produced it. I think it turned out pretty well. It was a really cool collaboration. It was pretty mellow to work with him. It basically involved a lot of PBR consumption and lots of hangin’ out talkin’ about black metal.

Was there a lot of that black metal influence?

It wasn’t so much that things are sounding black metal, but it’s definitely (had) an influence. I think the songs are a little more intense. They’re a little faster. They’re a little darker, just like lyrically and whatnot.

But we’ve still got a couple of the rock ’n roll songs, dealing with topics such as drinking beer and that sort of thing. There’s still a few party songs in there.

But not as many orcs?

Yeah, not as many orcs; a little more “Mad Max,” apocalyptic doom scenario. (There’s) a couple of songs dealing with Canadian native mythology and that sort of thing.
