Jamie Hooper, Sunny Dhak and Bob Froese originally got together to do a one-off reunion gig for an old group of theirs - however, things went so well they decided to continue under a new moniker. A five-track demo of the new band, now dubbed 3 Inches of Blood after a particularly gruesome dream of Froese's, found its way over to the house of Hot Hot Heat keyboardist Steve Bays. Bays' friend, death metal vocalist Cam Pipes, was impressed with 3 Inches' old school sound, which sounds like the shrieking vocal assault of Rob Halford, the epic guitars and storytelling of Iron Maiden, the pirate theme of Running Wild, and the lasting influence of the British New Wave of Heavy Metal.

Although the group had little distribution for the record, they did share the same U.K. label as The Darkness, who at the time were on their way to becoming the UK's latest rock sensation. When 3 Inches went overseas, they hooked up with The Darkness for a UK tour. The tour was a smash success. Due to this bubbling under at the press level, Roadrunner Records took notice of the group's demo, and signed the band in 2004.

3 Inches began work on "Advance and Vanquish," determined to make it a "classic" metal album. Musically, the band has expanded on their classic metal roots, developing into one of the tightest hard rock bands of modern times.

Evile Issues Report from Canadian Tour with 3IOB

UK thrashers EVILE, who are currently wrapping up a West coast tour of Canada with Canadian metallers 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, have posted a tour report from the last leg of the tour.

EVILE lead guitarist OL DRAKE reports from the road:

"So we're pretty far into the 3 Inches of Blood tour, and it's been awesome so far. On top of 3IoB being great guys and a great band, the scenery on this tour is mind blowing. We definitely have to come back to Canada. The Canadian fans are mental (in a good way), everyone's going crazy. The first show had one guy's face being bust open, there was blood everywhere (I wonder how many inches of it there were)." More...

Evile To Tour With 3 Inches Of Blood In Canada

UK thrashers, Evile will embark on their first ever trip to the western hemisphere as they tour Canada this October with 3 Inches Of Blood.

This tour is a big moment in the history of Evile as it marks the first time the band will play shows in the great white north and the first time the band has ever toured outside of their half of the world. Evile is extremely excited to see all of their crazy Canadian fans for the first time and is just as excited to play with longtime favorites of theirs, 3 Inches Of Blood.

Evile guitarist, Ol Drake gave a few words on how he and his band first discovered the music of tourmates-to-be 3 Inches Of Blood: "I remember hearing 3 Inches Of Blood when we started Evile back in 03/04 (in the rehearsal room whilst writing) and was surprised to hear someone doing that style of metal at that time. It was a relief to
hear, even though I was heavily into just death and thrash metal only then."

"I can't wait to drown in 3 Inches Of Blood!" says Drake, who jests "...Too cheesy? Fuck you!"

Monsters of Rock

Nearly 20,000 hard rock and metal fans braved the heat on Saturday to show their support for the one-off, one-day Monsters of Rock in Calgary, AB. While the line to get into McMahon Stadium stretched over a football field in length as ticket holders went through to the necessary ticket scans and bag checks, Zimmers Hole grabbed the stage by the bull horns and audibly spurred concert goers as they trickled in. Zimmers Hole, fronted by Chris Valagao (who later signed autographs wearing nothing but red body paint and a butt flap), gave a short, but high energy sampling of funny, thrashy goodness. And it was super cool of Ozzy to have a Canadian band kick start the festivities. More...

Pride Tiger Announces More US Tour Dates

Vancouver rockers Pride Tiger -- who were recently nominated for a Juno Award for Rock Album Of The Year for their Caroline Records debut "The Lucky Ones" – will go south of the border for seven more dates in the U.S.

Here are the latest PRIDE TIGER tour dates:

May 30 – Hell's Kitchen - Tacoma, WA (w/ Hell's Belles)
May 31 – The Manette Saloon - Bremerton, WA
June 3 -- Lil’ Red Lion - Eureka, CA
June 4 – The Viper Room - Los Angeles, CA (w/ The Binges, Dead Sara and ABAM)
June 5 -- San Jose, CA @ TBA
June 6 – Eli's Mile High Club - Oakland, CA (w/ Hightower and The Fourfits)
June 7 -- San Francisco, CA @ TBA

Pride Tiger was formed by three former members of the highly respected, still-going-strong metal act 3 Inches of Blood and one member of hardcore band S.T.R.E.E.T.S. Going for an authentic sound in the Thin Lizzy-vein, the result was "The Lucky Ones." Produced, engineered and mixed by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu), the record modernizes the glorious 70’s rock style resulting in 13 songs that are powerful, sweaty, hooky, suitably head-banging and one big party. Unsurprisingly an early adopter of Pride Tiger is rock legend Alice Cooper who has been spinning and supporting the band on his nationally syndicated radio show.

Pride Tiger will soon unveil more national and international tour dates in support of "The Lucky Ones."

"But not anymore. Today marks the first Full Metal Podcast for CBC Radio 3. And I couldn't be more um, filled with unholy joy.

"For the past few months a crack team of producers and one eager host, have listened to literally hours of metal tunes from our collection here at New Music Canada. We then sought out the opinions of a few serious metal heads and created this podcast.
