Background
The thrash metal sound of Slayer was formed in Huntington Beach, CA in 1982. Comprising Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitar), Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums), they made their debut in 1983, with a track on the compilation Metal Massacre III. After that the rest has been history. The band played at breakneck speed with amazing technical precision, but the intricacies of detail were lost in a muddy production. Araya's lyrics dealt with death, carnage, Satanism and torture, but were reduced to an indecipherable guttural howl. But this chaos called music is what set the ways for Slayer and many bands to follow.
Through the years, Slayer has been hit with much controversy over their lyrics, including lawsuits. But through the years Slayer has managed to build a following from coast to coast. Slayer has played such tours as Monsters of Rock, Ozzfest, and recently toured the U.S. co-headling with Pantera.
Now almost 20 years later, Slayer is still playing just as hard as ever. Will Slayer ever stop? Not likely, considering they are keeping up with thrash bands half their age, after all they did start it!

Hail! Issues New Tour Recap
Hail!, the group featuring David Ellefson, Jimmy Degrasso (ex-Megadeth), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Tim "Ripper" Owens, has issued the following recap of their recent European tour dates:
"SEPTEMBER 9 2009 (9,9,09, or maybe upside down 666?) We finished up our Denmark shows on Tuesday September 8 and flew Finnair flight #666 to Helsinki on Wednesday (‘Hell, and fire, were sworn to be released’). Aside from some hellish turbulence on landing the flight was otherwise non-eventful and was our only day off on the tour.
"SEPTEMBER 10, 2009 Ironically, the venue in Helsinki was an old church refurbished into a hip night club and music venue called DANTE'S HIGHLIGHT (seems a bit sacrilegious, doesn't it?). In its honor, during the set Andreas broke into ‘The Number of The Beast’, which we all joined in on up until the second verse when we realized we didn't exactly know the rest of the song very well without rehearsing it! Actually, that's been a cool trait of HAIL!, where we bust into songs not on the set list for about 90 seconds and then stop part way through, pretty much playing them off the cuff. It's comes from inspiration and is certainly something most metal bands never get to do outside of a casual and relaxed setting like this.
"We also invited Helsinki up-and-comer Jules Navari from PROFANE OMEN onstage to sing ‘Walk’ with us, which he kicked ass on. Later, Andreas and Roy finished ‘South of Heaven’ and segued into SLAYER's ‘Jesus Save's’. Must have been in honor of the church and flight #666! More...
Children Of Bodom Streaming Three New Songs Online
Children of Bodom has issued the following update about streaming three cover songs online from their upcoming album "Skeletons in the Closet:"
"CHILDREN OF BODOM, the esteemed Finnish Heavy Metal band that features frontman and modern day Guitar Hero Alexi Laiho will release a full album of cover tunes containing 17 impressive remakes of the group’s all-time favorite songs this fall. Titled Skeletons in the Closet, the record will drop on September 22, 2009 via Spinefarm Records / Fontana International. CHILDREN OF BODOM will launch a 20 city North American headlining tour in support of the record beginning Friday, September 18 in Providence, RI
"A first taste of what Skeletons in the Closet will deliver can be had today as not 1, not 2, but 3 wild new CHILDREN OF BODOM remakes have been posted online via the band’s just refashioned MySpace page. Check out all the action including COB’s revved up take on BILLY IDOL’s ‘Rebel Yell’, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL’s ‘Lookin’ Out My Back Door’ and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES’ ‘War Inside My Head’ now at this location.
"Long known for employing a lighthearted musical modus operandi despite both a weighty work ethic and no joke dedication to its craft, CHILDREN OF BODOM (or COB) has joined the ranks of the world’s finest heavy music acts over the course of the last decade. Skeletons in the Closet features a first-rate selection of covers; some of them previously existing recordings, others specially laid down for this release. The LP delivers bang-up recordings of – among others -- the Ramones’ ‘Somebody Put Something in My Drink’, Iron Maiden’s ‘Aces High’, ‘Talk Dirty to Me’ by Poison and the searing version of the Billy Idol classic ‘Rebel Yell’. Of special note is CHILDREN OF BODOM’s now-infamous take on Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!...I Did It Again’. The cover previously appeared on a Japanese-only pressing of the band’s 2005 album Are You Dead Yet?, and will now be available worldwide for the very first time."

Thrash Metal's "Big Four" To Tour?
According to Slayer guitarist Kerry King, a dream tour featuring Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax could well be in the works. Speaking to Britain's Metal Hammer magazine, King stated:
“I’ve heard people referencing Lars. I don’t know Lars that well and I haven’t heard it from Lars but apparently he’s talking to somebody about it. Maybe us, Metallica, Megadeth (and), I think he even threw in Anthrax and I said in this day and age, I know we had that time together but how do you leave out Machine Head? There’s better options than Anthrax and that’s nothing against Anthrax, but they’ve just been in pieces for quite some time and that doesn’t make as much sense to me."
The closest the world has got to having the "Big Four" tour together came in 1991 when Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax were joined on tour by the up and coming Alice In Chains, who stepped in for Bay Area thrashers Death Angel, on the Clash Of The Titans tour. The tour also went to Europe where Megadeth and Slayer performed without Anthrax and Alice In Chains but with Suicidal Tendencies and Testament.
