Ozzfest 2006 Comes To Bristow, Virginia
Another year, another Ozzfest. After a star-studded lineup for its ten year anniversary last year, Ozzfest was faced with the challenge of putting together yet another great lineup for its eleventh year. When I went to Bristow, VA on Sunday, August 6, 2006, I was wondering just how good a lineup they managed to scrape together. I knew the bands that were playing, but the real question remained whether the main stage bands could hold their own with primarily younger, nu-metal bands on it and Ozzy closing out the second stage.
The temperatures had fortunately dropped from the 105F degree humid days of only a few days earlier, but the sky was crystal clear for most of the day and the intense sun beating down on you in the 90F degree temperatures was still enough to take a lot out of you and require constant re-hydration. All That Remains Unveil "This Calling" Video
Massachusetts ALL THAT REMAINS has unveiled the debut video from the bands forthcoming album, The Fall of Ideals. The video for the albums lead track, This Calling, was directed by Frankie Nasso (Mudvayne, Hatebreed) of Raging Nations films and is online here.
Shot at the end of May in the now-abandoned Hancock Naval Base in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, the videos concept revolves around the "calling" itself being represented by the voice of hope breaking free from a tainted and twisted state of mind. More...

Avenged Sevenfold and DragonForce On Ozzfest 2006
It comes as little surprise that Avenged Sevenfold have been officially confirmed as the mystery band on the main stage for Ozzfest 2006. The real surprise announcement is that power metal band Dragonforce, recently signed to Roadrunner Records in North America and rumored to be joining Gigantour 2006, has been added as the main stage opener as well.
Ozzy Osbourne is now slated to headline the second stage on three dates (replacing some dates that he was previously thought to be headlining the main stage):
July 8 - San Bernardino, CA's Hyundai Pavilion of Glen Helen
July 11 - San Antonio, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
July 22 - East Troy, WI at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre
OZZY says, "After 10 years of headlining Ozzfest's main-stage I think it's time for a change. I haven't had a chance to play this close to an audience in years and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to it."
Also announced is that Ozzfest emcee Big Dave and professional Ozzfest party guy, Eddie, have begun their nationwide search visiting 19 of the festival's 26 cities to find the first-ever Miss Ozzfest. The duo will be accepting entries and taking photographs of Miss Ozzfest candidates in each city. Throughout the summer the Ozzfest fans can vote for your favorites at Ozzfest.com. All entries collected from Big Dave and Eddie will be posted for you to vote on. The top three in each city will be awarded FREE tickets to the show in their city, where at some point during the evening's festivities, the three contestants will be presented on stage to the fans who will vote on a winner. Photos of each winning contestant, including the top vote getters from Raleigh and West Palm Beach, will be posted once again on Ozzfest.com, where fans can pick their Miss Ozzfest 2006. Final voting will be held at Ozzfest.com on August 7 and 8. The winning beauty will be awarded the grand prize and receive round trip airfare and accommodations for her and a guest to attend the year's final show August 13 in West Palm Beach where she'll be crowned Miss Ozzfest 2006.

Sounds Of The Underground DVD Info Revealed
Last year marked the inaugural Sounds of the Underground tour, which saw 17 of the best and most brutal metal acts around traverse the U.S. and Canada in what proved to be a very successful alternative to the more commercial Ozzfest. The tour hit the parking lot of the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on July 2nd, 2005, and with it came almost 5000 fans. Metal bands like A Life Once Once Lost and Strapping Young Lad hammered out their sets alongside hardcore acts like Madball and Throwdown in the sweltering 95+ degree midday heat. As the sun began to set, stalwarts like Chimaira, Poison the Well and From Autumn to Ashes played well into the darkness. All of the passion and power of that day is captured in Sounds of the Underground Live: Vol. 1, which will hit streets on June 20th.
DRT Entertainment will be releasing the DVD which documents the day's festivities, complete with performances from 16 of the 17 artists who participated in the tour. Along with over 90 minutes of performance footage, the DVD also features vignettes on every band on the tour, along with a host of hilarious 'guest interview' segments from members of GWAR, Every Time I Die and Throwdown. The DVD was filmed by Doug Spangenberg of Highroller Studios (Lamb of God's Killadelphia).
Featuring live performances from:
All That Remains
DevilDriver
A Life Once Lost
Madball
High on Fire
Strapping Young Lad
Throwdown

Darkest Hour Brings Down Asbury Park, NJ
Friday night, March 31, 2006, I was sitting at home on my computer and on AIM. I hadn't planned on doing anything until out of nowhere, one of my friend's instant messages me, asks if I like Darkest Hour, "yes", I replied, so began my Friday night.
After running a few errands, my friend, his friend, and I headed towards Asbury Park to see Darkest Hour, A Life Once Lost, the Acacia Strain, and Himsa at Club Deep in Asbury Park, NJ. Now, this would be our first time to this venue and were told that it was right across from the legendary Stone Pony. When we got to the Stone Pony, we where relieved to find out we hadn't been misinformed. We walked in after paying at the door and I was surprised to see a pretty decent venue.
Club Deep consists of a decent size pit area, a bar in the back, and a divider separating the stage and pit area and the merchandise area. Also, in the merchandise area, there are a couple pool tables and the rest rooms. Club Deep is about the size of the Stone Pony which isn't very big, but isn't extremely small. Club Deep was just the right size for a good show.
Now, because of the errands we had to run, we showed up 20 minutes late and missed the Acacia Strain. We made it just as a Life Once Lost go on. A Life Once Lost was ok, not really my thing, sounded very hardcore influenced, and we enjoyed some of their songs. After them, Himsa went on; we aren't too big of Himsa fans because their drumming, in my opinion, overpowers the rest of the band. Also, I believe the drummer is too good for that band. After we sat down for Himsa, there's a little leather couch built into the divider to sit on, we stood back up for Darkest Hour.
Darkest Hour, the band we came to see, made the night worth the $12 spent to get in. Their vocalist was having trouble with his microphone in the beginning, but that was resolved after the first couple songs. Darkest Hour tore through songs from all three of their albums, including their single, "Convalescence", off their newest album, "Undoing Ruin", which I purchased along with a shirt after the show. Darkest Hour put on an amazing performance for their whole set. I found the guitar work to be exceptionally good. At the end of their set, their vocalist decided to stage dive, right into my arms. A much unexpected surprise! I bet he and I were both glad that I caught him!
That was the end of a Friday night that started as nothing besides me and my computer spending some quality time. Anyone who says AIM and computers are a waste of time and bad for you, I suggest you take a look at how this amazing night started.

MTV2 Headbangers Ball: The Revenge Details
MTV2 and Roadrunner Records have announced the release of the third installment in the successful series – MTV2 HEADBANGERS BALL: THE REVENGE. The low priced, double-disc is due in stores on April 11, 2006.
On the heels of the Gold certification of the first installment, MTV2 HEADBANGERS BALL, VOLUME 1 and the success with MTV2 HEADBANGERS BALL, VOLUME 2, MTV2 and Roadrunner Records once again set out to gather the very best in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. The result is more than 2 1/2 hours of music on 2 CDs: disc one represents the strongest tracks from today's biggest rock bands, and disc two brings together the strongest up-and-comers from the underground rock scene.
In addition to the genre-defining anthems that represent the best of the show, there are enough rare and unreleased tracks to satisfy tastemaker metal fans as well. Packed with a total of 38 hard-charging tracks, this collection has 7 exclusive offerings. They include the Terry Date mix of Slipknot's "Before I Forget", and the live recording of Killswitch Engage's "A Bid Farewell", which both see their first CD release on this compilation. Other exclusives are brand new tracks from Hatebreed and Walls Of Jericho, both of which were written especially for this release (Hatebreed's lead vocalist, Jamey Jasta, is the host of the Headbangers Ball program on MTV2). A video for the Hatebreed track, entitled "To The Threshold", will air on video channels in March. A side project of Jasta's, Kingdom of Sorrow (which also includes members of Down, Crowbar and Seemless), also throws a brand new track into the ring. The compilation beat Dragonforce and 36 Crazyfists' record releases to the punch with fresh new tracks from these up-and-comers.

New Himsa and The Acacia Strain eCard
A new eCard is online to spread the word about Prosthetic Records label-mates Himsa and The Acacia Strain hitting the road for Darkest Hour's "Undoing Ruin 2006 Tour" alongside A Life Once Lost and Dead To Fall. Spanning 38 dates across the United States, the tour will begin February 17.
Himsa will embark on several headlining shows along the way to support the Feb. 7 release of Hail Horror before meeting up with the "Undoing Ruin" lineup in Latham, NY to kick the tour off. Hail Horror, the follow up to the critically-acclaimed Courting Tragedy And Disaster, has already been labeled as one of 2006's most anticipated releases by Decibel magazine, and sees the band heading in a thrashier direction while maintaining a commitment to tirelessly touring behind this album, maintaining their reputation as seasoned road warriors. The band will later head back to Europe to follow up its successful run of the continent with 3 Inches of Blood in December 2005.
Massachusetts' The Acacia Strain will be a part of the tour fresh out of recording tracks with veteran producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) for the upcoming album The Dead Walk. A release date for the record has not been determined, but The Acacia Strain will nonetheless head out on the road with a handful of new live-worthy tracks, hand in hand with the same win-them-one-by-one mentality the band has built its base upon.

The album will be released through Prosthetic Records in late March, and will be the follow-up to 3750, the band's Prosthetic debut.
Come February, the band will hit the road with Darkest Hour, Himsa, A Life Once Lost, and Dead To Fall for a string of US dates through March.
