Ava Inferi Announces New Drummer
Rune Eriksen, guitarist and mastermind of Ava Inferi, issued the following statement about recruiting a new drummer:
"We are very pleased to announce that the new drummer for Ava Inferi is none other than Sasha Horn, previously of Novembers Doom. After having had some contact with Sasha over the last few years I am now very happy we have come to this joint conclusion. The last of the lost keys has been recovered!
"I have for some time now wanted to strengthen the fundament of the band, to go deeper and to include some heavier and more powerful elements into the sound of our creations. I truly believe that Sasha possesses the necessary qualities to make this happen, and I am highly confident about the next steps in our path together."
Sasha had this to say about joining the band: "I was ecstatic beyond belief when this opportunity was brought to me, and needless to say, I jumped at the chance! I'm a huge fan of what Ava Inferi has created, and we anticipate wonderful things as a result of this new union."
In other news, Ava Inferi has inked a deal with London based booking agency Mythology-Live, and has the following upcoming shows with Moonspell:

Musicians Comment On New Morbid Angel Album
Morbid Angel's new album "Illud Divinum Insanus" will be out in less than a week, and Season of Mist has now asked a series of famous names in the metal what they thought of the influential extreme metal act's new opus. The commentary from the various musicians can be viewed below, or you can check out Metalunderground.com's review here.
"The new Morbid Angel album will cause 3rd World War. After June 7th, the extreme metal scene is never gonna be the same again... And I already can't wait the moment I'll be sitting on my sofa listening to 'Illus Divinum Insanus' while the world burns! Ha!" - Nergal, Behemoth.
"No other band in the entire Extreme Metal genre but Morbid Angel would have ever dared to make 'Illud Divinum Insanus'. There are going to be quite a few unimaginative underground purists who think they know better what kind of album Morbid Angel should or should not be putting out, but with 'Illud Divinum Insanus' Trey and David prove that they answer to no one but themselves. It is an incredibly well written, performed, recorded and produced record." - Karl Sanders, Nile.
"One of the best death metal releases since their last album with Vincent. I'm not too much into the techno bits but I am a dude who will appreciate and respect bands doing new things, progressing... So it's all good. Vincent's vocals of course are still as good as they come. And the riffs are definitely there, Trey always delivers. New drummer is killer too!" - Mikael Akerfeldt, Opeth.
"The ultimate voice of death metal is back, as hellish as ever!" - Mikael Stanne, Dark Tranquillity.
"Glad to see Morbid Angel are back! We had our share of criticism when we first incorporated electronic elements in our sound and we know it takes courage and passion to follow one's own stream of inspiration. This time the guitar work is more impressive than ever and those 11 songs are a real 'tour de force'. With this new album they're not afraid to take the hit from the more conservative audience but that's what it means to be extreme!" - Vorph, Samael
"Innovation, wits and a feral 'no compromise' attitude is what brands the greatest of bands. 'Illud Divinum Insanus' is all that and a leap further! Hail Morbid Angel!" - Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen, Ava Inferi, ex Mayhem. More...

Ava Inferi Posts "Majesty" Video
Ava Inferi has posted a music video online for the song "Majesty," which can be viewed below. “Finally the first clip from 'Onyx' is ready!" mastermind Rune Eriksen comments. “It was indeed an inspiring process to be a part of, and once again Costin (Chioreanu, camera/director/editor) did an amazing job to capture these essences unto film. I believe that the mysterious surroundings and the heavy atmosphere on the locations did wonders to the feeling and the vibe of the video too. It was almost like something greater was with us those days in early February. Something which guided us and gave us the inspiration we needed. All in true, vintage Hammer fashion.
"I would like to extend a deep gratitude to those who did their share for this filming to go on as planned: Valeriu Catalineanu, Corina Craja, Vlad Lordache, Florin Ene, Alexandru Barbulescu, Andy Ionescu & Ghita Adrian. They all worked hard for this video to unfold the way it did. Last, but certainly not least, a very special salute goes to Mr. Costin Chioreanu & Twilight13 Media, who did an amazing job during the events, and whose dedication, determination and hard work resulted in something truly special (again). We are eternally grateful! From the deep wintry forests of Samurcasi and the haunted ruins of Chiajna Monastery, 'Majesty' is hereby presented."
Director Costin adds: “For me, to make 'Majesty' was a real challenge. But when you have really special artists to work with, the true art reveals. It's by far the most intense video I ever made, spiritually speaking. And that was mostly caused by the intense sharing of artistic thoughts and visions between Rune, Carmen and me and my crew. It was a deep chemistry there, and that is the best air for an artist to breathe."

Dark Wings Syndrome Films New Music Video
Portuguese prog-rock/metal band DARK WINGS SYNDROME recently shot a video clip for a cover of the DEPECHE MODE hit "It's No Good," featured on the band’s debut album. The music video was shot at the band's rehearsal room in Riba D’ Ave, Portugal earlier this month.
According to frontman Barros Onyx, “This video follows the whole concept of the Arcane album and the visual experience of it will be very psychedelic, hallucinating and spiritual.”
As previously reported, DARK WINGS SYNDROME will play a very special gig on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Side B Bar in Benavente, Portugal where AVA INFERI (whose line-up includes Norwegian guitarist Rune Eriksen a.k.a. ex-MAYHEM guitarist/songwriter Blasphemer), will hold a CD-release party for its fourth album, "Onyx."
Ava Inferi Offering Free Song Download
The fourth album of atmospheric doomsters Ava Inferi is entitled "Onyx" and has been scheduled for a February 14th, 2011 (one day later in the US) release. You can now download "The Living End," a full song from the Portuguese / Norwegians' new album, at this location.
"Before Dan (Swanö) started the mix/mastering process I had 3 albums or eras of reference in my mind that I wanted the album to sound similar to," guitarist Rune Eriksen comments. "I wanted to steer a bit away from the obvious sounds that this day and age is craving for (in certain circles) and go for something a bit more vintage, something with a bit more '80s bite.' I mentioned Fields of the Nephilim ('Elyzium'), Black Sabbath ('Born Again') and early Dio as reasonable reference points. That was basically it. And we wanted it huge! No need to say these keywords were more than enough to trigger Mr. Swanö, as even the first test samples I received bore witness of something out of the ordinary. Sails set for Dominion! More...
Ava Inferi Announces New Bassist
Ava Inferi has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new bassist:
"To 2011! The year one! Although Roman Castevet linked 1966 and a birth to this very phrase, we in Ava Inferi forged the same praise into our own symbolic terms for this newly charged Year. With the magick rites of ONYX soon pouring over us, we definitely sense a year of potent transformation. From cocoon to butterfly, or winged beast if you will, our impact is most certain impending.
"And what could a better time then now, whilst the new year still struggles to get up on its feet, to announce a new member to our Coven(?!) It is with great confidence and satisfaction we announce our new 4 string Doomster, namely: Joana Messias. We are very excited to commence the live sessions with her on board, knowing there will be a deeper and heavier contribution to our wall of sound! So lets all raise the chalice to this new dawn of AI: To 2011! The year one!"
Ava Inferi has also announced the following upcoming "Onyx" release parties:
Saturday, February 19 - Side-B, Benavente (PT)
Saturday, February 26 - Vagos CER, Aveiro (PT)
Saturday, March 5 - Fnac Algarve Shopping (special semi-acoustic showcase) & Marginalia Bar, Portimao (PT)
